Zambezi Mubala Campsite

What a well run camp. The manageress in June 2023 was on top of things. She meets her guests and knows their interests. She even got someone to call us one day to see a particular turaco that is only found in that area.
For us non Fisher people there is not too much to do. 3 days probably would have been enough. We went on a birding boat cruise which was lovely, and it was just the 2 of us? Our lady guide was great! We felt completely safe in her hands. Saw hippo and some new bird species for us. The skimmer being our favourite. We also went on a boat that was going across to the sister Zambezi Mabula lodge, and we had coffee and cake and otherwise just chilled.
Our tent was a 4 sleeper, in perfect condition. It was closest to the water, but sadly all tents were facing inwards in a circle… Some of the camp sites by the way are on the waters edge. We would so have loved watching the river activities and sunset.
The restaurant looks like lots of fun. And we think this would be a fantastic spot for a group of friends to visit all together.
There's also one of the largest colonies of seasonal Carmine bee-eaters that birders come to see… this is the video that they use for promotion purposes. But you have to visit between September and November to see them.

A green oasis next to the Zambezi River with super friendly staff and amazing activities. We saw an incredible number of fish eagles on our 3 hour boat tour, but also hippos and crocodiles. Coming back from our boat tour, we even got a snack platter on the house. Such a lovely gesture! We would 100% recommend this camp!

Beautiful Zambezi "Out of Africa" experience right on the River. Stunning boat ride to and from rooms so a Bonus if early Morning or Sunset. Crocs and Hippos along the way … but safe! Rooms are very well appointed and the shower is Stunning. Food is choice limited (not a great variety) but for the remoteness of the area still great! Staff are super friendly!
A Sundowner on their Deck bar is a Must Unforgettable!

The Gondwana Zambezi Mubala Campsite came highly recommended, but unfortunately, we left rather disappointed.
Stunning sunsets and cruise on the Zambezi were a delight, especially the knowledgeable skipper.
Back at the campsite, we were greeted by a rather unpleasant odor coming from our private ablution — this unpleasant smell stayed with us throughout our stay and spoiled the pristine river view.
Facilities in general, look rather dated, no wonder our bathroom light switch did not function properly.
Individual campsites are too closely spaced, with hardly any sense of privacy.
The Zambezi Mubala Campsite certainly does not do justice to the Gondwana Mubala Lodge, especially being the "port of departure" for its fancier namesake.

We stayed in the safari tents which are well equipped and in a lively shady environment close to the river.
All you need at an affordable price.
The river and bird life make up for the lack of game.

This was a really nice campsite, each with private ablutions. The only complaint we have is that on the website the pictures of the campsites show them all to be on the rivers edge, however only 3 sites are on the river, and we were not able to get one. This is a great resort for those who love fishing.
Nice curio shop onsite. They also have a restaurant and bar.

Zambezi Mubala Camp’s Camping2Go tents follow the usual, well-equipped setup—everything from linen to wine glasses and even a coffee plunger is included. This camp also features mosquito nets around the bed and a more compact outdoor L-shaped kitchen/dining area.
The tents are closer together here, more like a traditional campground, but the trade-off is the convenience—just steps from the pool, restaurant and riverside bar, no driving required. The bar is a great spot to catch the breeze and enjoy sunset views over the Zambezi river.
Make the most of the location and book a sunset, fishing or bird-watching boat trip.
A heads-up: curious monkeys tend to roam through in the afternoons and aren’t shy about climbing onto the fridge or opening the rubbish bin, so be sure to pack food away securely.

We stayed in one of the tents for a week. Upon arrival when opening the tent, we noticed big holes in the tent, where any insect could fit through. The tent was extremely dirty, full of bird poop and spider webs on the tent itself and on various parts of the outside kitchen. When entering the tent and placing down our bags, we found sand and dead cockroaches all along the sides of the tent. The double bed's mosquito net was very dirty, full of brown marks and squashed insects. In the bathroom the shower walls were extremely dirty as well, and the walls were the utencil crates were stacked had brown splatter all over the walls. The thick tree canopy makes the tent very dark inside and even after zipping open all the windows and switching on all the lights inside the tent, it's still difficult to properly see inside.
Their restaurant had limited items to choose from for dinner, as they did not have stock of most items.
The items in their shop were full of dust and dead insects, after visiting the shop day after day, without being cleaned.
The mosquitoes are a real problem there, which is understandable, but the shop sells no mosquito coils, spray, ointment or citronella candles.
We were not happy with this camp at all, and would not recommend it to friends or family, especially after visiting one of Gondwana's other tented camp, Hakusembe, the nights before (which was absolutely wonderful! )

One of my favorite stays with gondwana thusfar, every single member of the staff were friendly and respectful. One of the most beautiful sunset rivir views and the food is delicious. Even the tour guides that took us to the falls were some of the most respectful people I have come across.
Note, there are monkeys that tend to "taste" your snacks, but thats only of you leave it in the open.
Lastly, the camping grounds itself were cared for, very green and almost no issues at all.
Trully Impressed, will visit again for sure.

This was a perfect camp site. Great big tents, very clean, with a bathroom attached. There is also a kitchen, with a fridge and a sink attached to the front of the tent. The tents are very big, beds very, very comfortable.
The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that when we went to have showers before we left the next day, there was no water pressure or hot water! They turn it off overnight and we were with a group and none of us could have showers.

Coming from Victoria Falls, we booked this campsite for an overnight stay. It is located on a branch of the Zambezi. It is easily accessible because the road is paved from Katima Mulilo to the camp. We were kindly welcomed by the manager and staff. We had a nice camping spot with our own bathroom. Nice shop with souvenirs. We enjoyed dinner on the deck with a view of the sun setting over the river. In the morning we were spontaneously offered a boat trip to take a look at the lodge further downstream. Along the way we saw hippos, crocodiles and various birds. It was a good experience!

Campsite 1 and 2 is river facing with sunset views over the Zambezi with campsites covered in grass.
Private ablutions were neat and clean with hot and cold water. Gas is used to warm the water so warm water can be temperamental. Outside is a washing up area with a sink, hot and cold water and a single plug is available.
Ants were a problem in the kitchen area. Wifi is available on the property but not great quality.

We had a reservation and paid for everything, but when we arrived they couldn't find anything in the system and sent us to one of the second to last campsites 9😞. We had reserved one of the front spots 1-3 😿. I had to prove to them that I had paid for the campsite 2 1/2 months ago😡. No apology and nothing that they made a mistake 👎. The dinner is OK but the burgers are not famous. This is a mediocre campsite😵‍💫

As with all the Gondwana lodges, this one doesn't disappoint. Great setting and amenities. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because our campsite no 10, had a green painted corrugated fence as our backdrop and the camp's car park in front of us, including an empty boat trailer. Only campsites 1, 2 and 3 has a riverside setting.

An absolute paradise. Tents, campsite, pool (cold) and garden were neat, comfortable and contribute to a great experience! The angling experience were top class thanks to services of our two guides, Joseph and Alex. BIG Tigers were the result. Skipper Jimmy treated us on a magnificent sundowner cruise. I can't remember the names of all the wonderful staff, but a special thanks to Manager Henk van der Westhuizen who was readily available to help, or just to share stories. We will just have to return sooner than later.

Outstanding campsite. Full amenities, great bar and excellent food. The ribs were a sensation. Thanks Katarina and all the wonderful staff. Highly recommend staying here ❤️
