Huab Lodge & Bush Spa

Right on the edge of the Hoab River nestled inn the mountains and desert, is the breathtaking river bed and earthy surrounds of Damaraland. Tranquil and restive with beautiful and big rooms with stunning views and bathrooms. Such a family feel and atmosphere.

Amazing experience! Totally unexpected oasis in desert. The hosts, Jaco and Lydia very friendly and the whole staff well above average. Don't delay. Go and enjoy an amazing experience.

Huab was our favourite place in a 18 day trip round Nambia — beautiful location, attentive staff, great food including really good on gluten free for a coeliac son. Really friendly, and great to all sit down with the guests in one long table-our older teenage sons particularly enjoyed meeting similarly aged people to chat to. The hot springs were an added bonus.

This is a wonderful place to stay & to be away from the world & to watch the desert elephants whitout having other cars and people around.
Deon takes you around, we are all alone on this beautiful landscape looking at the desert elephants, having a BBQ & just feel the peace of this incredible place.
The owners Lídia & Deon & all team are incredible kind, they make us feel home and we are like one family together at dinner, it’s just so special.
We stayed 3 nights, we enjoyed every moment of this unique place, away from all the noise of the world.
Thank you Lidia & Deon, keep doing what you do because it’s very unique & a special place, not many like that in the world.

What an amazing place! The location, the rooms, the food, the staff, the experiences, the owners — truly exceptional.
A couple of hours drive from the nearest large town, but worth it. The location overlooking the dry River Huab is wonderful, and the all-day Ephemeral River Drive is an experience not to be missed — Deon's driving skills, hospitality and his ability to find the Desert Elephants made for an unforgettable day.
Meeting the owners, Deon & Lydia, and their family members, was lovely — we had some super chats.
The rooms are wonderful. Everything is wonderful.
Definitely going back — but for longer next time.

In one word… Visit!. This is a truly captivating place. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave you are made to feel truly welcome. From having a sundowner watching the sun set over the mountains, to tracking the desert adapted elephants with lunch included surrounded by the most incredible scenery it’s hard to put into words just how wonderful this place is.

I cannot recommend Huab Lodge enough. The amenities, the staff, and the environment are incomparable to anywhere else in the world, it is definitely worth paying them a visit.
It really feels as though I arrived as a guest and left as family.

Slightly off the beaten track (bit not too far) — the 35km driveway was a fun experience and good practice for some of the roads around Sossuvelei. Dion and Lydia, the lodge owners, are the most lovely people. We went in the riverbed drive with Dion and it was an amaizng experience. We didn’t see the elephants but saw it other wildlife and a great bush lunch in such serene landscape. The rooms were large and clean and new bathrooms and balconies overlooking the riverbed. The main lodge was delightful and staff lovely. Lydia’s daughter and sister were staying to help out in the busy period and were also very helpful and lots of interesting stories.

We had the most wonderful few days at Huab Lodge — in fact 3 nights was not long enough! The food was incredible and we ate around the table with the lodge team and other guests which was such a fantastic experience! From the bush spa to the pool and activities, everything was just how we love it — a real authentic African experience. Thank you to the wonderful team for making it so special for us and for being so welcoming and helpful.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Not easy to get to, but well worth the drive. This place is owned and run by a lovely couple from Namibia. Our room was large and comfortable, we loved the deck and the brand new bathroom.
Dinner is served family style and everyone at the lodge eats together with the owners. Food is was delicious.
Simon — the bartender and general manager waiter at was so nice and accommodating. We loved talking to him:)
Our hike with Elvis was also fun and informative!
Deon (the owner) took us on the most unforgettable sundowner drive up the mountain for cocktails and a beautiful sunset.
Lydia and her daughter were always around made us feel like family.

Gosh what a great place. Off the beaten track but not isolated. We were guests for 3 nights in January and were warmy welcomed by Lidia, Deon and their team. The track to the lodge could easily be done in a standard car, and well signposted. The food was great and eaten with Deon, Lidia and Ursula, a member of the team. This was a really good way of getting to know the history of Huab lodge and the area. But also fun! Deon and Lidia are passionate about conservation, and it shows. A few storms added to the occasion, but the beers were still cold, phew. The standout part was trecking for desert adapted elephants, a recommended all day trip. Additional cost but so worth it, including a 'braii' in the river bed for lunch. Just us and Deon. And, eventually, 13 elephants! How lucky to see these ultra rare desert adapted animals. So exciting!
We can't recommend this lodge highly enough. It doesn't offer 'glitz and sparklers', no air-con (good fans) but the warmth and passion of conservation and getting back to a real experience is second to none. We hope to go back, soon.

A fabulous place to stay off the beaten track, recommend staying 2-3 nights or more. The owners are fantastic and go above and beyond to ensure you have a superb, enjoyable stay. Excellent food. Easy access to get to Etosha National Park afterwards.

The Villa @Huab Lodge – Nov/Dec 2024
My partner, Barbara, and I sought out an opportunity to spend a breakaway birthday long weekend and found Huab Lodge’s new Villa (room 9).
We were the first paying guests and how lucky were we!
Deon and Lidia, their manager Rihette, Ouma Ursula and the team made us feel so at home and from the moment we arrived we were spoiled to the extreme.
The Villa is magnificently built, the woodwork is sublime and the furnishings take the Villa to a next level of luxury. Views aplenty from various angles and heights make the experience so brilliant, light floods into the many large windows and the expansive deck on the ground level offers so many options to entertain oneself. The Villa comes with a plunge pool which is a godsend and ensures that you can cool down at your whim and still enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding hills.
Bedroom and bathroom (with bath) plus a desk area is upstairs and lounge, kitchenette and bathroom (with shower) is downstairs. Spacious, lovely linen, luxury towelling and gifts galore awaited us.
An easy walk to the dining room for breakfast, lunch and or dinner is an option or a drive from the Villa to the main lodge buildings can be undertaken. For a lodge well off the beaten track breakfast offered everything and more and dinner was shared with other guests and the owners. Menu options are explained by the chef and then “sold” in one of the local languages which added to the fun.

We were looking for a remote lodge and we found the perfect joint. Lovely location & landscape, nice rooms and a great bar/restaurant area which is a brilliant place to watch the varied bird life. It's also a great place to meet the other guests and very hospitable owners.
The highlight was the riverbed game drive with Deon. He is great, knowledgeable and down to earth host. Really enjoyed the AM coffee stop and BBQ lunchbreak over a few beers and wines.
We also really enjoyed dinner at the communal family table. A great way to chat to the owners Deon & Lidia and the other guests.
If you're up for something remote and unique this lodge is absolutely worth the time, effort and money!

Unique experience in a stunning natural environment! Deon, Lydia and their staff managed to create a hospitable paradise from where you can experience the search for Desert Elephants in their natural habitat. By sunset the flocks of Quella's fly in dancing formations along the thatched main house.

This felt remote in the extreme — a long way down a gravel road, then a turn off and many kms down an even more gravel road, opening and closing gates on the way. A real gem in Damaraland. We were only there for a night, but it had a real family vibe. The meals were served at a communal table with a chance to mingle with others. Our daughter loved the fact the family had dogs and she could play with them. There was a thermal spa and an outdoor pool, as well as amazing views over the riverbed and the standard fire pit.
In the evening we did a sundowner tour down the riverbed. Saw eagle nests with chicks in and a number of baboons, felt like we were really in the middle of nowhere. At dinner, we were intrigued by the trip to find the desert elephants and Dion put together a specific trip for us as we didn’t have time for the full trip. Was magical, setting off at sunset and going 60km down the riverbed, most of which was not a track. Felt like a real adventure and was amazing to find them and watch them feed, then a breakfast on the campfire.
The service was excellent, the food was varied and great quality. The room was great, awesome shower and lots of room. Wi-Fi was OK in the main lodge only, not in the rooms.

Magical place.
The place is fantastic. No words can describe the beautiful experience we had there. The hosts are wonderful, very friendly and down to earth people.
The lodges have been renovated with modern bathrooms and are so beautiful and clean. Every detail is perfect and the views and nature can not be compared to anything else. It is not like being just in another country, it is like a different planet.
The night skies, the adventures, the people, nature, sundowners, hot springs… ah words won't be enough to describe how much our whole family enjoyed our visit there.
We hope to have the opportunity to visit again one day.
