Dar Darma

We are not new to Marrakech and after trying different solutions we settled for Dar Darma for our last 3 visits. This time we stayed 4 days in early january. Right inside the Medina, Dar Darma is the perfect solution if you are looking for a luxury, comfortable and cozy place to stay in the central area.
The rooms are huge and beautiful with all is needed. As an upgrade to our last visit, a super fast internet link now delivers high speed Wi-Fi in the whole riad.
The staff is skilled, professional, multilingual and do their best to make sure your stay is perfect in any aspect. Suggesting best offers for trips, restaurants, taking care of bookings etc. A total "no headache" support for any need, still making you feel like at home. We booked a trip at Agafay Desert, to have fun with buggies and quads and it was epic!
Breakfast is always great and served either in common areas, rooftop, or straight to your room/apartment.

Really nice old family mansion — maybe 9 rooms or so — all facing an indoor courtyard, as the picture shows. Very authentic Moroccan vibe. Quiet with great location. I was worried about getting there late in the evening but Maria took care of reserving a driver for us who met us at the airport, and he dropped us at the edge of the "Medina" which is the Old Town where no cars can go. He then got us a guy with an old fashioned cart to bring us 3 minutes by foot to the Riad. If I hadn't arranged that, it could have been a nightmare dragging luggage on those cobblestone streets. The breakfast was pretty basic, but the bedroom and shower was really nice.

We stayed from November 29 till December 6, 2025 in Dar Darma, having reserved the Orange Suite. It is an old and quite gem in the middle of the Medina, with only few steps to fine restaurants nearby, like Le Trou au Mur or Le Fundouk. The next taxi stand can easy reached within 3min walking distance. We have been even up-graded in the superspacious and lovely decorated Red Suite, thanks to the Perl of Dar Darma, Maria. At this occasion we would sincerely thank Maria and all her staff (Abdel, Mohammed, Hakeem and the ones we do not remember the name) for the wonderful time we enjoyed there. It was like in a family.

Dar Darma is an excellent choice. An oasis in the chaos of the Medina where you’ll feel right at home. Maria and her staff are kind, caring, and hospitable. We brought our child along with us and they accommodated our family so well. The Riad is clean and tidy and absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Brown suite which was spacious and the other areas of the Riad were comfortable for relaxing… on the rooftop, fireside for a meal, and inside on the couches. I’d highly recommend having lunch or dinner at the Riad— every meal we had was delicious. The location was great, very walkable into the Medina and not too far from an area where you can pick up a car/taxi to get into the New City. I hope you have the opportunity to stay here!

This Riad is a beautiful old house, really peaceful in the middle of Marrakech. Location is great, only about a 10/15 min walk to the centre of the medina.
However, it does feel like it’s past its prime.
The riad overall lacks warmth and is very quiet. It feels like more of a B&B rather than a hotel — if you like a private, small guesthouse feel then you will love it.
While the suites are big and palatial, they lack the basic amenities of a hotel of this calibre (safe, fridge, plentiful plug sockets), and it all feels a little tired. I have to say we had a bad nights sleep in the brown suite so that is unfortunately to be avoided. The bed is two high single beds pushed together and they are so creaky and wobbly that every slight movement caused my partner and I to wake up.
We did enjoy a lovely private dinner on the terrace — the food was fantastic. The breakfast on the other hand was a little more basic.
There are some underutilised elements of this beautiful old building — for example, adding more comfortable seating and some more lanterns on the terrace would transform that space, as would some seating or lighting in the internal courtyard.
I think with a bit of a freshen up, this Riad could be wonderful.

This small, boutique, hotel is in the Medina of Marrakesh. It seems to be, essentially, two homes amalgamated into one but parts of it look very old indeed and presumably is at it has been much altered over the years.
Our room looked out onto a courtyard patio and small ornamental pool.
The rooftop has a dining area and kitchen also there is a small swimming pool. This was ideal for breakfast.
The hotel arranged a car to meet us at the airport which was most helpful. The car was able to take us to the edge of the Medina where a young man with a barrow took our luggage for the rest of the journey, into narrow streets. Tthe hotel doorway is easy to miss, set into an otherwise blank wall, a short corridor and some steps go down to the hotel reception area. The staff are all very helpful, Hashim, two Mohammed's, and Maria who with helpers, and by arrangement cooked two very good meals for us. We had a dinner on arrival and also lunch on the afternoon of our departure. Breakfast by the room, or better still on the rooftop.
The hotel was able to arrange a taxi which would come and pick up close to the entrance. Taxis for a return journey were reluctant to go all the way to the door because of the narrowness of the streets.
The situation is ideal, walking distance to the Medrasa Ben Youssef and not far on the Souk. Meals in the hotel can be taken by arrangement but there were good restaurants very close indeed.

Just… wow. This property took my breath away. In our experience, it's important to convey just how accommodating the staff is; the word 'no' simply does not exist here. If there's something you want or need, they will find a way to assist.
My partner and I arrived at a parking lot, as directed by the hotel. At the insistence of the lot manager, a man with a luggage cart led us to the Dar Darma. Obviously we had the address, but the door to the property is so non-descript (as with so many other interesting places in the old city) you would almost certainly never find it without help from locals. After a hard knock on this very large door, you are greeted with a warm and welcoming member of the staff and porter eager to get you settled.
Dar Darma has just 5 Suites, each designated by colour; we were in the Orange Suite for 4 nights. This was a duplex and was exactly as described on their website. While I would stay here again in a heartbeat, I would not recommend a duplex suite. Looking outward on the ground floor are views of the patio with a beautiful small water-feature pool and flowers in it. The ground level room is quite comfortable for lounging, reading, watching TV (though you probably won't be doing that), etc. One criticism I have of this space is the lack of curtains for the windows leaving the room exposed. The decor is consistent with what we felt (and appreciated) was authentic. The bed has a firm mattress (fyi).

I can’t recommend this Riad enough. The staff treat you like family and take care of whatever you need. Do yourself a favor and let Maria cook for you one night. The location places you in easy walking distance to most of the major attractions within the Medina, including the craftsman part of the souks, which you should plan on getting lost in. The Riad and surrounding area is a fantastic and other-worldly experience.

Located inside the Medina and cars cannot reach the riad. It would be fine if the hotel would let the guests know how to reach them and offer assistance to find the place, but they don’t inform anything ahead of time and even when you leave the property, it’s very complicated to return.
Place is a little eerie, dark and somber. Breakfast is a joke. Never again.

The only thing that outshines the beauty of Dar Darma is the thoughtfulness and professionalism of the staff there. As many have said, the design of this Riad is stunning, and staying in the red suite was truly a once in a lifetime experience. It is an instagram dream! Marrakesh can be a bit chaotic but the staff at Dar Darma guided us through our travels, enriching every experience. Breakfast on the roof was both peaceful and beautiful, the food was delicious. The Riad is located near the Ben Youssef school and mosque, which made it easy to navigate your way back through the narrow streets of the Medina. It is hard to outshine the beauty of this Riad, but the staff is truly extraordinary, especially Hicham who made sure that a milestone birthday was unforgettable including an exceptional dinner. In short if you’re thinking of booking a stay at Dar darma, just do it! It will be a cherished memory that will last you a lifetime.

Great experience in riad dar darma. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful on all we asked for. Close enough of all spotlights inside the medina and close enough from a street big enough for getting a taxi. Breakfast is simple but good. The pool area is very calm with ambience music. They have wine 🤩

Fantastic stay. Close to everything you could want to see. The beautiful carved stone, large ceilings, beautiful and large vases, and intricate doors made it feel like a palace. Easily the nicest place I’ve stayed in (and we’ve been to plenty nice places which were much more expensive)
It never felt like we were in a hotel but rather in a beautiful home. The photos don’t do it justice. Wish I stayed here longer.

Absolutely enchanting experience at Dar Darma in Marrakech! From the moment we stepped through the intricately carved doors, we were transported to a haven of tranquility and luxury. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, offering impeccable service that made us feel right at home. They were attentive without being intrusive, always ready to assist with any request. Our room was a true oasis, featuring exquisite furnishings and a private terrace where we could enjoy the serene views.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the exquisite dining experience. Each meal was a celebration of Moroccan cuisine, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The breakfast spread was a delightful way to start our day, featuring fresh pastries, fruits, and traditional dishes.
The location is perfect, nestled in the heart of the medina, allowing us to explore the vibrant markets and historical sites easily. After a day of sightseeing, returning to the peaceful courtyard and relaxing by the pool was a dream.
Overall, Dar Darma exceeded our expectations in every way. It’s a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and authentic Moroccan hospitality. We left with unforgettable memories and can't wait to return. Highly recommend this gem for anyone looking to experience the true essence of Marrakech!

This was my first time in Morocco and we picked this establishment because of its unique esthetic. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The only reason I gave 4 starts for the location is because it’s in the middle of the Medina where the souks are located and that area is too narrow for cars to get there.
There’s about a 5 minutes walk to get there. With that said, that may not be the place to stay if you plan on enjoying the night life in heels, unless you have some comfortable ones.

From the busy streets of the medina, a well hidden but imposing front door opens into to a dimly lit hallway and a narrow flight of steps leading down into the main part of the house. It feels like you have just arrived as a guest in a family home. Tastefully decorated throughout with traditional Moroccan furniture and reclaimed objects there is a sense of opulence but without the feel of an over-designed boutique hotel. There are many different spaces to enjoy and incredible things to look at, we were made to feel at home and welcome by Mohammed and Isha and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was served on the roof terrace with a selection of Moroccan pancakes, choice of eggs, bread, jam, honey, freshly squeezed oranges juice and teas and coffee, plenty to set you up for a day of exploring. The roof terrace itself has many areas to relax, take in the view and a swimming pool to cool off. If you are looking for an authentic experience in a traditional Moroccan family home then DarDarma is not to be missed. We felt welcome and relaxed and would definitely return.

We could not access the Riad at night due to staff being asleep during their shift.
Even though they knew we were out for dinner (as they booked our transport), when we came back we were met with no response and started being approached by many people in the street as they were aware of us not being able to enter our accomodation.
Situation was insecure and we encountered a couple of very tense situations including one man asking us to give him some money unless we wanted to be in trouble.
Riad is nice but, if security is relevant for you, I would advise for you to choose other options.

There’s stuff competition in Marrakesh — there’s beautiful Riad’s popping almost daily. While lovely, Dar Darma feels a little tired in comparison.
We chose it for the blue room — a two bedroom suite connected by a living and dining room. It was perfect for what we needed and the hosts and staff were kind and helpful. The breakfast was traditional and we were randomly sent a plate of tagine to try one afternoon which was absolutely delicious.
But I feel that in order for this place to sing, a little tidy up is needed. Some fresh linen, softer furnishings (a new mattress! ) and some soft music playing in the communal areas will help!
