Hotel Pharos

Hotel Pharos fully deserves its 3-star rating and has many advantages. The hotel consists of two parts; we stayed in the newer one, and the comfort level was very good. Rooms were cleaned daily and towels were changed regularly.
The food was tasty, served warm, and replenished when needed. The hotel offers an all-inclusive light option, which includes three meals a day. The selection is not very large, but everyone can find something for themselves. As for fruit, only watermelon was available, and there was one type of cake for dessert. With lunch and dinner, alcoholic drinks included wine (three types) or beer.
A very pleasant aspect was having meals among mandarin and olive trees, which created a lovely atmosphere. The swimming pool was clean and sufficient in size, and there was no competition for sun loungers.
The location is excellent — Bar is a great base for exploring the area. You can easily organize trips on your own or book boat excursions locally. The beach is about 800 meters away, roughly a 15-minute walk. It is a pebble beach, but the water is quite dirty. I strongly recommend visiting a small, quiet pebble beach with clear water (Small Beach, about 2.5 km away). Sun loungers on the beach are paid. Unfortunately, the nearby beach is the weakest point of this hotel.
Overall, I recommend the hotel and have very good memories of my stay. The housekeeping staff deserves special recognition — the ladies are extremely kind and warm.

Service is superb, everyone is extremely polite and welcoming. Fair pricing with great buffet breakfast. Also buffet lunch/dinner available for extra charge.

We had an unfortunate experience with what appeared to be a bait and switch on our room, and a buffet that was substandard, at best. Two-star rating is because it’s at least clean, and Bar, Montenegro, is a very good destination. We reserved a room here with a double bed and balcony/terrace through travel firm Rainbow, thinking that they would assure we received the accommodations we paid for. However, on arrival we were given a room in the “old building” which had neither a balcony nor terrace or any other outdoor sitting space, and two Eastern European-style separate twin beds. When we complained, we were told by staff that they were full/overbooked, and that we wouldn’t be able to have the room type we reserved for at least two days. No compensation or other options offered. We called Rainbow’s agent in Bar, who called the hotel, and then advised us that our room was not available for “technical reasons. ” Again, no compensation or other options offered. After two days we did receive an “upgrade” to the type of room we originally reserved, but no refund for the nights in the smaller room with no outside area. The buffet here is limited and ingredients (with the exception of eggs and cheese) do not seem to be the freshest. Coffee is instant, “butter” seems like margarine.
Plus: housekeeping seems good, nice garden area to eat in near the buffet/bar, some of the food/drink service staff are genuinely friendly and helpful.
Minus: as above.
