Hotel Scappata

This hotel is mid. Let me start with the pro’s: great location on the malecon, straight across the beach. Our room (one of the two suites of this hotel) was spacious, clean and the bed was super comfortable. Daily cleaning service and the towels were very soft. However, we travelled with family and their rooms were way smaller.
The cons: our bathroom smelled like sewer all day every day, so we made sure to keep the door closed. Also, this hotel is VERY noisy. Our room was straight across the pool and we heard music blasting every day from 9am onwards. We also heard a lot of noise (screaming) from other guests in the hallway. The rooms are so poorly isolated that it sounds as if you’re standing next to them. The music from the hotel stopped at a reasonable hour (around 10/11pm) but we heard a lot of traffic noise during the night and occassionaly someone blasting music through a speaker at 3am on the malecon.
Another con is that the restaurant of this hotel is very overpriced. We paid 80 euros for 6 drinks and 3 starters (some guacamole and bruscetta), so the other days we made sure to eat in other restaurants on the malecon. Overall it seems one of the best hotels of Puerto Progreso, but keep in mind that it can get very noisy.

We have a king ocean view room with two large windows facing the water. Beautiful view. Unfortunately directly outside are chaise lounge chairs. Not much privacy if we don’t sit there. The room is nice but lacks one basic amenity. NO DRESSER FOR YOUR CLOTHES! There is a rack for hanging clothes but now for three days we have to live out of our suitcases. I was told this room doesn’t include one, but other less expensive rooms have a dresser. This room is $290 USD. It baffles me that there is not a dresser. I’ve stayed at hotels and motels from economy to luxury. Never in my travels have there not been a dresser. Additionally there is no mini/frig or microwave. We had to empty the mini-bar to place our food.

On my first day staying at the Hotel Scappata, not only did they kindly store my bag for hours before check-in, but they went above and beyond to help me. I had ditched my bag with them to go check out El Corchito, a local eco-reserve, and upon my return had left my phone in the cab. The exceptionally kind hotel manager took me in his personal vehicle around town to the taxi station and supported me in finding the right driver. Mind you, this was all before I'd even checked in! I was immensely grateful and he was incredibly gracious. Perfect person to work in hospitality. Everything else about the hotel was fabulous as well, but his generosity is what will stay with me!

The hotel is nice. Small but nice. We weren’t much in our room so the size didn’t bother us much.
When we arrived we were told a bunch of rules. We need to get beach towels from the front desk and return them when we are done or we would be charged. Etc. Kinda annoying but whatever.
I was happy except for a few things. The beach cabana people ripped me off by NOT giving me the guest discount. Even though they knew I was staying at the hotel. They got me one day and tried the second day but thankfully I was paying attention and I called them out on it.
The drinks and food prices are also super inflated. We ordered 4 Paloma’s and it was like 1200 pesos and forget about bringing a cooler because they watch you like a hawk. You better off renting chairs and tent with other merchants for 400 pesos and you can bring your own cooler.
The pool server on the rooftop never come. So we had to walk downstairs to get drinks multiple times. So that was annoying.
And finally they had these big beer steins and I wanted one for each of us in the table. Well for each beer stein I was charged 3 individual beers even though it only fits 2 1/2. Because I guess they don’t sell draft beers or it was broken. And of course each beers was overpriced. I think they charged me like 600 pesos per beer stein.
So if you are staying here I would stay away from the restaurant, the beach cabanas and go elsewhere for drinks and food. Which is what we ended up doing the rest of the trip.

I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband, sister and her boyfriend. We arrived a little early. The guy who checked us in was super nice, friendly, and gave us all the info we needed.
Our rooms weren't ready when we arrived, so we changed and went to the beach which was right across from the hotel. Hotel guests have access to free beach beds. They had servers on the beach to take our orders for food and drinks. The beach was beautiful. We also went to the rooftop pool during our stay which was very enjoyable. We watched a beautiful sunset from there.
The location is wonderful. We walked down the beach walkway. There were many restaurants, bars, shops, and spa/ massage. We had breakfast at the hotel one morning which was good.
Our room was fine. We had a king bed. It wasn't very spacious but we did not spend a lot of time in there. We had what we needed and we were comfortable.
Overall, we had a great stay and I would stay here again if/ when I am back in the area.

Great location, restaurant, clean, price fair. We would stay here again! They even have day passes if you just want to hang out for the day.

Came with a couple of our friends, stayed for two tonight’s. Absolutely amazing! Friendly locals. Pool on second floor was nice, clean rooms and had maid service every day!
I highly recommend this hotel!

We came all the way from Denmark to stay in Progresso for a few days and we could not have chosen a better place.
Our room was lovely, just as the rest of the hotel. The receptionist was always nice and helpful. The organization of our visit to Chichen Itza or our trip to the airport was very smoothly taken care of by the hotel.
Located right in front of the beach surrounded by nice restaurants and a lovely dinosaur museum, the hotel is perfect for a family vacation.

Staff was excellent and it is right next to the beach. Beautiful view and already planning my next stay. The restaurant was excellent and other bars and restaurants around the area as well.

Rooms were 3star. Comfortable, bathroom a little small. Love the location. On the beach walk, but with that came some noise from the bars with techno music. It got Quiet about 22:00-22:30
Great, super great location!

Very cute hotel directly on the malecón. We got up in the morning and walked across to the beach! Staff was very friendly and there’s a decent restaurant on the first floor. Pool deck overlooks the beach. A little older hotel but perfect for the price.

We had a terrible experience in this hotel jewelery was stolen from my room theaid enter without my permission.
Despite repeated attempts to speak with the manager. Front desk refused to transfer him with us, making imposible to escalate the issue directly. The police told take a report here in USA and they will transfer to interpol. This was a clear violation of my of privacy, trust and safety. The lack of of accountability from the Hotel and Grupo la Parrilla is deeply concerning.
TRAVELERS, PLEASE. Be cautious if you value your belongings and privacy and. Peace of mind.
I strongly suggest you to avoid this property. On top they claim to be a 5 start hotel, which clearly they have no idea what this means. The room Bathroom drainage back out. Smelled. Towels old. Etc.

The location of the hotel is fabulous. We were taken very good care of by Alexis and Luis when we were at the beach! Our breakfast at the restaurant of the hotel was very nice and the server Eduardo was attentive. Progreso is a wonderful town with kind people. It is a grest location for families too.
We felt very safe during our time here. I highly recommend the location and hotel.

The location is great and safe. The beach and service are chill and enjoyable. Emanuel is very gracious and helpful. The restaurant food tends towards Italian and seafood — it would be nice to have some Yucatan cuisine too. Come and enjoy the hospitality!

Location of hotel is awesome. However, not all rooms directly face the beach. I called to verify this before booking as was told yes they do. Check in was chaos because they couldn’t figure out if our room was ready or not and they really seemed to not know what they were doing. Had to use my card as a deposit for my incidentals and was told if I didn’t have any they would just refund back to my card. They did but still out a charge on my card for using it for this purpose. Had I known that before I would t have done it and would have used a cash deposit but probably wouldn’t have got all that back either. Get to the room and it’s tucked in the back as opposed to front of hotel on the ocean. The room is so small you can barely move around in it and when you go to sit on the toilet you literally bump your head in n the wall because it’s so close to the toilet. We had to track down the maid to get our room cleaned and fresh towels and she tells us she can’t clean our room because they lost the key. So who else has a key to our room? Oh it’s just somewhere in the hotel. So to get our room cleaned we had to let her in and wait around until she was ready to do that. Manager David didn’t care about that or that our room was quite like the web photos. When we were checking out I told him I was going to give the hotel a negative review because of everything and he just said yeah go ahead we don’t care, it doesn’t matter you can write whatever you want.

Superb location. Rooms small but functional. Quaint Mexican hotel. Doesn’t have the grandeur of a large hotel chain, but oozes charm. No lifts. So you need to be able to climb stairs.

The hotel met/exceeded our expectations. Was comfortable, quiet, clean and the bed was also comfortable. And the price was reasonable which gave us good value. The restaurant in the hotel served up one of our best meals in the area. All four of us (two couples) thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. Special mention goes to Manu and his team at the reception area who went out of their way to ensure that we had a good time. There service was impeccable. When we are back that way again, this is definitely the hotel we would choose.
