Kai Tulum

Upon arrival, this hotel is in a national park that operates from 8-5 everyday, they do not disclose this information so if you leave this area and come back between those hours you are required to pay per person to enter ON TOP of the hotel booking. We learned if we come back after 5 pm we avoid those fees and just show the guards our reservation for the hotel. We arrived to the hotel at 9:30 am no one was at the desk to greet us or anything turns out they don’t come in till 10 am. Weird but ok. When we finally checked in they told us our room wouldn’t be ready till 4 pm, mind you we flew red eye so we barely got sleep and drove two hours from Cancun airport. We grabbed a bite to eat at the restaurant at the hotel, no one here speaks English at all which is extremely frustrating. I laid out two of the 4 days we were here on the beach and not one server greeted me asking if I was okay or wanted to order anything so we took our business elsewhere almost every day and got treated with respect.
This is where the fun stuff starts… my second day here I was half asleep going to the bathroom when a scorpion fell on me I couldn’t believe my eyes or what had just happened. My husband sent a message to the front desk but of course they don’t start work till 10 am this was at 9 am. This instilled a fear in me for the rest of the week. They came and patched the opening in the shower and bathroom but still I wasn’t able to do anything without my husbands supervision.

Was labeled as a“Beach club “ but music only in the bar area. Okay prices kind service. Be early and if you plan on rinsing off after the beach do it early because around 4 the water tank will be very low and you will have a hard time.

I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to warn future guests. The experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. The food was terrible and often inedible, with limited choices. Even worse, I saw cockroaches in the rooms, which is completely unacceptable for any accommodation.
Staff were unhelpful and the management seems indifferent to complaints. I cannot recommend this hotel under any circumstances — it was a complete waste of money and ruined what should have been an enjoyable stay.

Loved my stay at Kai! Rooms were clean, bright and spacious and the view was outstanding. I loved this quiet section of the beach. I took a yoga class and it was great. I Will definitely stay here again.

I love how this location is very private. It has its private entrance to the jaguar park area. You also have access to golf carts that take you around the area where you can visit the light house, the Mayan ruins and other beaches like Santa Fe. We had the ocean front villa Right in front the beach and near their restaurant Bokoba. Their lemon chicken soup was banging! Staff was extremely friendly. The waiter Jose went above and beyond for us. He brought us breakfast to our patio a few times. Was very attentive to our needs whether we were in our room. The pool or the beach. The beach club had cool seating options. I love how boats were near by so you can go fishing and snorkeling. The beach water was warm and shallow. Guadalupe gave amazing massages on our patio. I highly recommend her. She’s well informed and experienced.

Kai Tulum was a really special stay in a really special place. Our gorgeous room was steps from the beach and had an amazing view. The whole place — from the room to reception to the restaurant and beach club — was really clean and just felt enchanting. Walkable to the Tulum ruins, this place can’t be beat!

Beautiful views, great service and attentive staff. Hotel has parking and it is located steps to the beach. Just don’t forget to buy your wristbands otherwise police will be annoying.

We were only at the beach club, there is no charge on sunbeds and no minimum co sum, beer is relatively cheap (80pesos) comparing to other beach clubs.
Sunbeds are very comfortable and also there are beach sofas available.
The service is very nice, not pushy at all and that do not demand the tip from you. I can recommend the Beach Club :)

Kai Casa de Cucarachas.
Our worst experience ever our room was not suitable for habitation, the AC dripped water everywhere causing all my clothes to get wet and the room was extremely hot and humid, weren't able to sleep at all and we were writing management through the night with no response they also had an insect problem, the following day they changed our room and told us they would refund us for the first night after a simply horrible experience, they changed us to another room but we still had issues with bugs, when we are checking out they then refused to refund us for the first night after management having promised us a refund for what was simply the worst experience I've had at a hotel in my life, I wish I never set foot on that property here are some photos of the issues, note the giant pot of water and wet floor from the ac that soaked my clothes. Disrepair, unsanitary and low standards. Management is horrible and has yet to respond. Awaiting a response…

This place is a gem! We booked this hotel on a whim a few days before our trip! It was so incredibly quaint. The individual huts made for a unique experience. The rooms were clean and well decorated. I loved the floorplan with an outdoor shower and an indoor shower which was great for our family of 4. Plus, our own front porch patio! I haven’t even mentioned the breakfast! We ate here every morning it was so delicious and fresh. Plus, the service was friendly, personal and attentive. Why stay at an over crowded resort when you can be steps from the beach just outside your adorable boho hut! The beach was clean and great to walk along. The pool isn’t huge, but that isn’t a concern for my family. The area felt very safe. One thing to note, you are in a national park and have to pay an entrance fee and they don’t allow plastic into the area.

We loved staying at Kai with our 3 and 6 year old. The service was great and the staff was friendly. The beach was beautiful and the property well maintained. The bungalow we stayed in was perfect for us and gave us a private outdoor area to hang out while the kids were going to bed. The reviews don’t give this place the credibility it deserves! Be prepared to pay the entrance fee to the park every day though it’s only a few USD per person so not a big deal to us as we thought it was worth it to have a more secluded area to stay.

Came to Tulum with my family (wife and 2 small children). Miguel Sotelo was our server and was so attentive to us. But most of all, so kind to our daughters who were practicing their Spanish. Was our last night in Tulum and by far our best meal. Absolutely will return. Next time will stay at the Hotel.

From Cancun we headed to Tulum ruins and did snorkeling with the turtles. Meeting point for swimming with turtles was between KAI Tulum hotel and Villa Pecadores hotel (beach front). My wife had to use the lavatories and we proceeded to go in to KAI hotel lobby. My wife proceeded to lavatory not thinking much of it, but immediately I was insulted as I waited because she went in without approval? I explained that the Tulum Ruins lavatory system was experiencing malfunctions and were closed. Insults continued so I proceeded to take image of name of hotel only to be physically attacked by a front desk staff member who tore my shirt in the process of trying to take my phone without success. I went to beach front entrance and asked for manager to report this incident. While there a bar employee acknowledged that we could use the lavatory but first had to purchase a drink. ($3 beer) Not a big deal at all. I reported incident to Manager who hinted that the young employee was the owner. (I assume owners kid) Manager was unable to assist. This is the way tourist get treated at this establishment. This altercation over the use of a lavatory that could have been avoided with a $3 beer purchase, had we been made aware of policy. I’m fluent in Spanish and English so the miscommunication card can’t be used. Horrible the way.
Tourist get treated here. If front desk employees are that unhinged, tourist safety is definitely not a priority at this establishment.

The location is ok, the food just average.
The problem is the lack of clarity on the pricing policy: at the entrance we were told that making a consumption would have allowed us to access the beach and the sun beds. We had lunch (we were 15 people) and our request to pay with 3 credit cards has been rejected. Once we proposed 10% tip we were told that we should have paid 15% in order to get the right to use the beach. As we kept our 10% we were then asked to leave. Would definitely NOT recommend the place.

Tulum is mad but this place saved us! We loved it and spent two long days here during our time in Tulum. We cycled here on bikes and came across the restaurant by accident but so pleased we did. It seems almost impossible to access any of Tulum's amazing beaches without having to pay an extortionate amount of money via a rip-off beach club. But here there's no entrance fee needed — just rock up, grab a table under a sunshade, eat and drink and spend as much or as little as you like. This stretch of beach (Playa Maya) is insanely gorgeous, like walking through a poster. Just incredible. And the food, drinks and staff at Pancho Villa just enhance the whole experience. We enjoyed countless margaritas and the best pina coladas; plus their shrimp tacos are divine. Our kids loved the chips (of course), the nachos and the guacamole. All enjoyed on the beach in between swims. Absolute heaven. Enjoy!

We didn't stay at this hotel but we did use the beach club a couple of times and had a really good experience. The club costs $100 pesos to enter and I believe the minimum spend is $400 pesos although one person told us there was no minimum spend. The food was not cheap but it was really excellent. We ate one of the salads, and the fish with roast vegetables and they were both really tasty and worth every penny. It was the best food we had in Tulum. My husband had a mojito which was also really good. The service was a bit slow (flexico Mexico as one local told us) but with a smile, and everyone was super friendly. It is near the Playa Maya public entrance close to the ruins. The beach is lovely there, and you can also take boat rides close by to go snorkelling with turtles and stingrays which is quite special. There is a small pool and good bathrooms.

This place has some of the nicest staff. We were taken care of with humility and with great hospitality. The room was clean and the food at the restaurant was very delicious. The bartenders and restaurant staff went up and beyond! The only down side was that there was no working Wi-Fi for most of the time and other restaurants and activities were far but it was an amazing experience nonetheless.
