Great dining experience but tourist beware when you leave the safety of your resort. We got a taxi from our resort and we agreed he would bring us back. When we were ready to leave and our taxi driver arrived to pick us up. Another taxi group that the restaurant has some type deal worked out for them to linger around and hound guest wouldn’t allow our driver to bring us back to the hotel. They were adamant that our driver for stepping on their taxi turf had to pay them for accepting to take us to the hotel. Our driver was terrified and as tourist we were shaken up that these taxi men at the restaurant were acting so aggressively and wouldn’t let us leave until we began to protest refusing to ride with anyone else. Especially that we felt safe with our driver. Very scary experience. We asked to speak to the manager because that shouldn’t go on in such an expensive dining experience but the host acted like he would get him but his mannerism indicated there is some type of paid off system where things like this is a norm in Mexico. So just be careful tourist dining out of the comforts of your resort you might be walking back to the resort or taking a taxi from someone that will completely rip you off.

We visited last week during our vacation to Playa Del Carmen. We loved the fact that we dined in an actual cave and it was amazingly beautiful inside. All staff treated us like we were royalty and that was appreciated. In the reviews many say this place is overpriced. I did not feel that way. In the US, I spend the same amount eating at local restaurants. Our meal was very tasty and delicious. The staff gave us a tour of the wine cellar and also the entire restaurant.
I would recommend dining here, to us it felt like a once in a lifetime event. Thank you Alux restaurant staff!

Was ok very disappointed very very expensive the food was soso I did have high expectations about the place this was my third visit to Playa Del Carmen I was very excited about to go, the place is beautiful, in side really majestic.

So these guys even remove bad reviews. I never leave those, ever, except for this place. Thd worst restaurant I've seen in my life! The servise was slooow; we waited for 3.5 hours for a meal?! They took 2 hours just to bring me a beer!
But they did ask for a propina in the end.

Restaurant is amazing under cave best experience beside food and price there is one menu that cost us 15 mxn which is 92 usd plus for their service there is 2 price for good service its mandatory to pay more then 250 and for very good service kore then $300 mxn if your under budget this place is not for you this might be gd for couple who wanna enjoy nice romantic view in the cave!

Rustic but warming attitude. Had interactions with plenty of the reception staff and everyone is so friendly. Not noisy for being so close to 5ta and 10th’s nightlife. For us was a great find, quietness, bed and shower… who wants to stay indoors in Playa?

This was one of my most memorable dining experiences. Everything was better than I expected. Adair was amazing. Food was delicious. Every space was used in very unique ways. We will be back.

Place is wonderful… and it’s definitely one of a kind… the food was the best I’ve had in the entire region… service was also top notch… your phone won’t work cause your in a cave and it was a little warm, but the host noticed and put a standing fan to make it cooler without even me asking… place is huge inside… loved it.

Nice themed restaurant inside a 'dry' Cenote. Menu limited and not cheap, although our choice was well cooked and presented. You must explore the caves and see the wine cellar. Wine selection limited and expensive. You can buy by glass. Our waiter was very attentive and we had a nice evening. You can just use the cocktail bar. Oh remember to pronounce it 'Aloosh'.

This restaurant is quite possibly the worst in Latin America. The food was. Flavourless, the management clueless, the server banal. Beautiful environs. The chef should be fired immediately.

What can I say? I celebrated my 50th birthday friday, July 27th at Alux and you did not disappoint! Thank you for making this day so special. The atmosphere was inviting and the lobster bisque and duck confit was very tasty! I don't know what type of dessert I had, but can I have another please? Thanks for making my birthday so memorable.

Staff is amazing. Professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The setting is obviously incredible. Expect it to be a little stuffy and warm. But they do have some wall mounted a/c units and many fans that they move around. There are main dining areas and some private, grotto-type areas for special occasions. A couple of phenomenal looking bars/lounges towards the back. The food prep was lackluster however. 2 meals were ordered exactly the same and were definitely not cooked the same. Very inconsistent. Another meal was not cooked to order either. 3 of the 5 meals were below par. The food was however flavorful and presented nicely. It was our second time there and I'm sure we'll end up going back.

An amazing experience from start to finish and everything in between. The food was superb and our waiter was very accommodating. The surroundings were like nothing else. Highly recommend!

I’ll try and be diplomatic as 4 out of the 8 at our table weren’t well after visit this restaurant. We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel… Great setting as you dine underground in the caves, very humid and if you don’t like confined spaces this might not be for you. The food was average and some of the combination just didn’t go together not a bad wine list but unfortunately they didn’t have most of the wines in stock…

Staff is terrific. Professional and just so nice and polite. Our waiter Johnathan, very professional. Real nice. And very informative. O and he always kept an eye on our table. Never waited for a drink to b poured. The establishment is incredible, wow a cave. Picture it. Then go see it. Very elegant. Hard to explain. Prices to us r good. Dress nice. This place is insane. A natural work of art and the food is delicious and service amazing. You have to see if for yourself to actually fully appreciate.

This restaurant is super cool. It's in a cenote right in the middle of Playa del Carmen! Food was wonderful. Service was excellent!

Been here a couple of times and 2 different experiences, the first was hot and humid with really good drinks and the second was cold, fitting since we were seated and forgotten about for over an hour. No apologies, just as cold as the cave. We will however take our friends visiting there for the beauty and drinks. Needs some tweaking to be a real contender in town…

So glad we didn’t read the reviews before going to Alux… we loved it! The place is amazing and we were allowed to walk around and take pictures after we ordered. The service was absolutely perfect and our waiter Gabriel took pride in making the experience special. We loved every bite of the fried Brie with fig appetizer, our duck confit and wild pig entrees were excellent! Gabriel recommended the creme brûlée for dessert and we were not disappointed. We each had a cocktail and the bill was under $100 USD… This was a great experience and would highly recommend!

My husband and I went to this place on the 12/04 this year, the whole place is amazing tbh but I have to agree with other people, the food was very bland to say the least. We never got past our so called starters, when asked how our food was we made it very clear that it was bland n flavourles. There are no prices on any thing on the menu so u don't know how much your meal is goin to cost u at the end of your night.
We left after only tasting half of our starters. We had a vodka n coke n beer n it cost us $50.00 & they tried to charge us for our main. Hence to say we never payed for that.

Good service and rich dishes, plus beautiful natural ambience.

It is a place that feels very luxurious from the moment of entry. Highly recommended if you want to have a romantic dinner with your partner as it looks like a restaurant inside a museum, something unique and very well accomplished. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. 'll.

A beautiful place. But there's no ventilation. Tasty food but very expensive. It's worth knowing.

A very original place, I loved the natural theme of the restaurant. The menu is a little small but I was able to try the buffalo, a New York cut and the orange salmon and everything was delicious. The prices are a little high but justified in taste and quality of the food. I was able to try two different drinks and they were very rich the Alux and Cave Treasure. The service of the waiters very friendly, up to the level of what you would expect for such a place. Highly recommended in general terms.

My husband and I were there march 23. I already knew that the cave would be humid and a little stuffy. They did have some AC units attached to the cave walls painted black to try to level out the humidity. Not too uncomfortable… Our table was situated in am awesome area by a little cenote with amazing stalactites illuminated ny colorful spot lights. The food to say the least is flavorless and pretty bland. I ordered the cornish dish and it came with some local bean that resembled a black eyed ora but tasted like a garbanzo bean. My husband ordered the orange salmon over some root vegetables, cooked medium by the chefs suggestion. That also lacked flavor and the portions are small, so don't go hungry. It took quite a while to get my drink, the Alux drink which had tequila, some fruit juice, a grabe fruit wedge, sprig of rosemary, and rimmed with chili salt and sugar. THAT was delicious! It was too dark to see the menu SMS your food. At some point I questioned a vegetable on my plate… There are 2 gentlemen that arrived full mayan garb and will let you take pictures with them for a tip. That was fun. When it came time to pay the check we chose to pay by card (Alux is way over priced and our bill was $1, 082 pesos) but the server came back ame asked us if we had cash as the internet was not working and they could not run the card. Really?!

A beautiful place!
It is a cavern that is located in the heart of Playa del Carmen and is many thousands of years old, with stalactites and stalagmites!
Something that no one can miss! The food is good and the service is top notch! Luis was attentive to us who was always on the lookout for us that we were a group of six people. At the end of the dinner he was kind enough to give us a tour of the cave where there are small private rooms, a bar and everything with its natural formations. It's a completely different restaurant! It has very nice music! We were all very happy! An unforgettable experience!

Superb place to eat delicious.

It's a very fancy place. Since you enter you realize this place is luxury. Very romantic for couples, it looks like a restaurant inside a museum. Food prices are expensive, and the portions are small. I still say it was worth it. I went for my anniversary and attended very well. Always friendly and gave us the suggestion to pass to know the other part of the place. It is entirely a cave and they have it very well accommodated. Although I thought the costs are very high. Is compensated with the place. From my point of view you have to go with the mindset of knowing and spending for it. But you stay with the satisfaction of having known a magical place.

Completely mislead into paying an extremely expensive bill! I dined here with my partner a couple of weeks ago which was meant to be the highlight of our trip. Such a shame as the atmospheric caves are amazing. We were informed upon taking our seats that unfortunately there was no duck so instead the dish & sides remained the same but with a replacement meat (pheasant). This was chosen and after one hour our food arrived. The pheasant was grizzly, boney and chewy. Not pleasant at all. The biggest shock was that this meal with the 'replacement' meat was more than twice as much as the original dish! We were not informed of this and felt completely deceived and knowingly mislead. We were even informed that the duck always runs out so Alux makes hundreds from their chewy pheasant without a price label on the menu! I am not one to cause a fuss in any restaurant but felt completely pressured into paying an extortionate bill at Alux.

Amazing atmosphere with lovely white linens in an old dry cenote. Eating in a cave Chandeliers among the stalactites. Music and the food was much improved over a few years ago and well presented. One on the nicest places I've eaten in years, $$$$

Excellent place, a different option. Excellent food, but the prices of the wines I think are very outdated, for example a bottle of Luigi Bosca that originally costs USD 30, in the restaurant you are charged more than USD 100.

Restaurant located in a cenote. When you enter and see the site, Environment and others (have up to Dj booth with live music) you think it is the typical place of posture in which people are going to take pictures without having any idea of the food. Quite the opposite. The menu is very small, the dishes and their description perhaps too "technical", most have 617272 ingredients. We ordered spaghetti with crab, cuttlefish and Putanesca sauce that were 10. Highly recommended. Secondly, we share a barbecue of sea and land: shrimp (without more), lobster (without more), pork and veal (well, nailed point) and each one had garnish of vegatelas, mashed potato, etc.
For dessert we ordered cheesecake with cocoa and Maracuya ice cream. The delicious ice cream, the cake not too far.
Better yet the food was the deal. An overhelpful waiter pending at all times from us. Talkative and polite. He told us that he closed the kitchen in case we wanted to order some dessert.
After finishing dinner we were offered to take a tour of the rest of the cenote, which is huge. Filled with tables by the caverns, with Estalacticas, Led lighting. For this reason in a more modern place Ibiza type could charge you €250 per diner. Here we went to 65-70 per head. Expensive for the food which is but good for the site.
If you visit I advise you to feel close to a fan.

Of my favorite restaurants in the world, everything is so beautiful both the place and the staff, the food is exquisite. The place is magical I have unforgettable no one should miss this place, a perfect place for a romantic evening or some special event. Only they changed the menu and removed the Mayan sacrifice which is the best I had tried they lack valet parking but in if it is perfect the place.

We're mostly going to the beautiful place. Cenote over 10 000 years. Restaurant/Bar. Really beautiful as a place.

Amazing restaurant in the caves, very cozy and cool decoration. Fantastic service, an absolute must if you like drinking great wine and high quality food. Ordered salmon with garlic mashed potatoes, must try! You go down in the wine cellar to pick your own wine, nice touch!

Restaurant inside a cenote very nice, staff very present but I did not go crazy the service, the prices are a bit alitini but everything of quality.

Nice place menu and waiters not fit.

Restaurant is very cool, really vast cave network… Can book little private tables further in. Food was very good but the service was pretty poor. We were there for 45 minutes before we got to make our order, the waiter brought our wine eventually after a half hour but then after I asked him to open it he said he had other people to serve first. Haha. Had to get another waiter to come over and open it for us. Hopefully it's just the one waiter, everyone else seemed really good. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic place with amazing ambience for a romantic dinner. The portions are really small though. But the quality of food is pretty good. But you should mainly go here for it's ambience. You can even walk around the cave and take pictures while waiting for the food. It'll surprise you just house big the place is and how intricate caves are.

It is a nice restaurant with very good wines, the aesthetics of being inside of a cavern attracts the attention of all people. Even thought it's an enclosed place you don't feel the warmth from outside, we loved it.

Food pretty good, your administrative attention leaves a lot to be desired as I applied for a bill that never arrived and your rude "counter" does not answer calls, or email. Remember that you have national customers that require a cost check.

Very unique. They have small isolated romantic tables. The food was delivered cold twice and raw twice. Once cooked it was nothing special and the portions smaller than a child’s portion at other restaurants. They offer you distilled water when you enter not advising you the small bottle of water is 60 Pesos until the check arrives and their beer is the same price or cheaper. The service was annoying as they constantly reached across to straighten silverware the entire meal. Unique but not enjoyable.

It is a very nice place under the Earth in a cavern sounds incredible no? The service is good and fast, the prices are affordable and the food is good, not wonderful nor extraordinary just good. Definitely a good place to visit on your trip to Playa del Carmen.

An impressive place: a luxurious restaurant-bar inside a grotto with Cenote. Just to know it's worth it.

The food was good, and fairly priced for its creativity. I was last here in 2005 and they have improved the dining experience a lot :) Can't rate 5 stars though … We paid extra to be in one of the private areas, which they did do a few nice things for us … but they waited until after they seated us and let us sit for 5 to 10 minutes before turning the air conditioner on, and it's WARM AND HUMID in there! Also, the bread was served cold and sort of damp, as was the tortilla shells which housed our appetizers — those tidbits should be warm and CRUNCHY, not clammy!

Very expensive but it is a must see incredible place and good food.

We went here because we heard that the setting was stunning and it was. The cenotes are lovely and the seating is spread out throughout meaning that there is plenty of space. Once we were taken to our seat we were allowed to wonder round the entire cavern which was great. The food was delicious if a little expensive and the cocktails were lovely clearly made to taste good not just for strength. It seemed a lot more refined than a lot of what we saw in Playa del Carmen. I would definitely recommend going here if you are interested in the cenotes or if you are looking for a classier meal.

The location, the food and the staff are all top notch. You're dinning in a underground cave, and then the food, delicious. I had surf and turf with a lobster bisque soup. If it's my last meal, I'll die happy. Our waiter was funny and courteous. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it. It'll be a bit warm and humid due to active stalactites.

We visited this very unique restaurant on a Saturday evening. The ambience is amazing, worth the trip by itself. The food is smaller portions, and somewhat of an eclectic menu so be prepared. The service was excellent. The wine grotto is unique however, a small selection of wines. All in, it's a must see. Enjoy!

A real gem in the rough. Totally unexpected and worth it. Developed part of the cave is really a treat and the waiter was glad to share some history and show us some of the unlit rooms. It's warm and humid outside the dining rooms and bars, so be prepared. Main dining areas and bars are air conditioned and comfortable. The cave goes on forever, it seems. Way different. One of the best experiences in dining ever!
