Mpilo Boutique Hotel

We went for Sunday lunch. The restaurant is beautiful to the eye and the views are amazing. The service was poor/incompetent and the food was abysmal. We ordered sphaghetti bolognese and we got a dry spaghetti topped with a measly amount of plain fried mince. No tomato and basil based sauce. None of the herbs, fresh garlic and olive oil associated with this basic, but tasty dish. This was one of the first meals I learnt to cook as a child because it is so easy to prepare. To get this wrong shows an accomplished and dedicated level of incompetence because one could even look up instructions on YouTube if they do not know how to make it. Use a little bit of iniative people. It always amazes me how people are generally so sloppy and careless with their work in Lesotho, but at the same time complain about unemployment. I do not think a trained chef made the dishes. Probably the waitress or a dishwasher did. What a waste of an absolutely beautiful space. Even our coffees were a disaster. Invest in recruiting competent staff or invest in training your staff properly. This was a terribly disappointing eating experience and they made us pay through the nose for it. The restaurant itself remains beautiful to the eye. Put the same level of effort into the actual cuisine and service and you will be onto a winner.

Lovely place, but it could use some work.
This was my second time staying here for business — my biggest issue this trip is the Wi-Fi. The speed is great but the connection is intermittent and inconsistent. I spoke to the IT department and they mentioned that the second floor does need more access points, it’s just disappointing to be sitting in my room with the Wi-Fi constantly connecting and disconnecting.
My second issue is the Gym that they advertise on their website. During my first visit, I understood that the building was fairly new — but on my second visit, the same issue. They say it’s not ready yet but it’s advertised as a facility on their website. Not even a weight rack or any training equipment is available — rather advertise the facility when it’s available as that is the reason I picked this place.
I plan on giving Mpilo one more business trip before I move on and look for a new go-to hotel as I travel in and out of Lesotho often.

Definitely, not a boutique hotel as claimed as here is no service here. Rooms are small with a bad restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. Stayed here before covid and was run much better with competent management. Now everything seems local! Will rather return to Avani on next visit as they have standards. Staff not trained either!

We checked in an slept well in a clean room, got extremely dissapointed when we got to breakfast, firstly,
We went to sit then, we were offered menus, which was very confusing as we opted for a buffet. Then there was a waiter who said we can order from her, we got more frustrated as we didn’t know how to proceed as we needed to place our preferred portions in our plates. Then ultimately — our breakfast that we were forced to order came in different times, the waiter lied about having crusants, we waited for a good 10minutes then my husband decided to just get bread.
By the time we wanted to eat, I completely lost appetite. It was like we were fighting for food. The waiter was not apologetic at all.
It was a pure bad experience.
For a hotel that costs R2500 a night, you can do better. We are definitely not booking there again!

Its a nice date spot, just outside Maseru CBD… LOVE THE LOCATION.

The rooms are super comfortable, tea station with a coffee machine available in the rooms (only one coffee pod provided though) and the normal instant coffee, tea, sugar & powder milk. Clean, high quality linen. Loved the generous shower space with rain shower and hand held hose giving an option of not getting your hair wet.
Had dinner on the fourth floor. Wide range of good wines available. The food was just to die for, the chops melt in your mouth and the potato chips are something else…
Overall worth the price paid.

Service is the best in town and food is among the best.

Excellent hotel in Maseru! Lovely rooms, great attention to detail, delightful customer service and a fantastic breakfast. The view from the top floor is breathtaking!
