Reviews of Hotel Matsushima Taikanso 3*
The ocean side rooms have a great view of the bay. The same can be said for the outdoor baths. The hot spring baths are not natural, and there isn't a sauna. The rooms are cozy, any renovated in the recent past. The outdoor pool is rather small and only suitable for small children.
The city of Matsushima is recovering nicely from the 2011 tsunami even though construction is on going. Hotel Matsushima is a beautiful hotel with great views of the bay. As with many of Japan's onsens, the baths are clean and enticing, and it looks over the bay. The foods are delicious and they serve a wide variety including some great desserts. My only complaint is that the first room we had smelled of smoke — something I find contradictory to the purpose of the onsen. Fortunately, the staff switch our rooms without hassle.
