We had the most incredible time staying at Apple Inn Takasaka (whilst skiing in Nozawa Onsen). The owner is an amazing lady. She is so friendly, helpful and sweet. She is a superb cook and put up some incredible spreads for our breakfast and dinner and we cancelled many other ‘eating out’ dinner plans just to eat her cooking at the Inn (note — she decides what to cook for you but it’s always quite a feast) The futon beds are very comfortable and the duvets and heater always provided enough warmth in the room. I found myself searching around shops in Japan for the special pillows that they used at the Inn after staying there as it was so good for my back. I believe it was made of buckwheat husk. The owner helped us to buy the lift passes at a small discount and helped to give us a lift to the bus station. She was always there to help whenever you needed it and always greeted us with a warm smile. I’m not sure if I’ve ever stayed at another place with better service and I have stayed at countless hotels ranging from 3 to 5 stars over the years (all over Europe, US, Asia and Australia). I would definitely be staying at Apple inn Takasaka again if we returned to Nozawa Onsen. I miss that place already!
Wonderful place to stay. Incredibly friendly staff at this comfortable traditional Japanese hotel. Also has great food and is exellent value for money. Highly recommended.

Be careful! We stayed there for a couple of days. Many say the place is clean but we found here pretty filthy. Linens were not cleaned and we had used linens when we got there. We had our ski gears delivered by Yamato (transporter) and had them shipped out back to home one the day we left. We asked the house master specifically to organize the shipment and she gave us her word but it was not delivered the day we asked. We had to call them to check our gears, the house master just told us she could not reach the transporter but we wonder how it could happen. Our gears were left in a cold and damply ski room for 4 days. When we got the gears back, my ski was rusted badly and I have to sharpen them! If we knew the delivery will be delayed whatever the reason was, we would have just brought them back with us so we would not have had to sharpen them. We enjoyed Nozawa onsen snow resort but we will not ever stay here again.
