Dunn's Apartments at Sandcastles Apartment

Room was nice, clean and conveniently located in downtown area. Staff are pleasant as well.

Check in was slow and disorganized. The staff wasn't very friendly (we were actually asked if we wanted to be shown to our room, as if we knew where we were going). As for the accommodation, which was studio apartment 32 on block D (D32), it was very shabby (check the pics for examples). I understand that the apartments are owned by private persons but that doesn't mean guests should have to put up with less than comfortable surroundings. There was no electricity in the apartment, I had to open the breaker box and switch it on. There was no remote for the TV and one was never provided, even after complaining at the front desk, plus the TV wasn't hooked up to the cable or even an antenna. It's a good thing we had a laptop, so we could at least entertain ourselves. As for the internet, that's another low, we actually had to ask for the password and it barely worked. The shower stall (if you can even call it that) is a accident/lawsuit waiting to happen. The small — estimated 30" x 24" area — meant showering was an uncomfortable experience. I bumped into the shower faucet handles almost every time I used it during our three nights stay. To be honest, we tried to spend as little time in the apartment as possible because it was so uncomfortable. The only thing we appreciated was the king-sized bed but it still could have been more comfy. Definitely not somewhere I'd recommend, although maybe it could have just been the apartment we were given.

Venue was satisfactory could have bwen better. Went as a group of 5 and we only had 1 small bathroom to share. Room was small.

The staff there is friendly and you cannot ask for a better location to the local beach but this is a "budget" hotel. Many rooms are privately owned and may not be upkept like where we stayed in D2*. Only positive in that room suite was the AC and if your determined enough to struggle and open the patio door the view. Outside of that a total mess. Had to get ice to keep some items cold in a broken refrigerator upon other many issues. Too many to list. Def wouldn't recommend for a family traveling for vacation if your not native to island with some tolerance. Jamaica is an amazing place to visit and they're many great hotel options.

It's very homey in the room but I got a room with 2 beds (they didn't ask me if I wanted a one bed or not), the smaller one was very tough though. The shower is very small… I'm not fat but dang! And no hot water… Cold water straight. In my opinion the checking out time is too early 11 am and checking in at 3. It's good for walk ins though. Have beach access turtle park beach included. The property overall is OK. The stay was good. The hotel allows u to be in walking distance to island village and the town on a whole.

I give this location a 2 star only for its location. Nothing else. It is run down and anything but a resort. The beach access is closed and you have to walk a block down the main street to access a beach. They say they have 2 restaurants on site and a workout gym. There is actually no restaurant and the gym has about 3 pieces of equipment that none of which works. The pool closes at 6pm like the rest of the town. The front desk is manned by very young girls who are not friend or helpful. If you like ganja then hang out at the pool side as the locals just sit around all day long and smoke it around the pool. If you don't then stay clear because it is just one large cloud all day long. Unfortunately there is not much else to choose from in Ocho Riosbunles you want overpay the the all I exclusives that have bad food and rundown rooms. I have been to Jamaica many times but this will likely be my last. Times are changing fornOcho Rios and not for the better.

Perfect for families. Not your typical hotel, but it is a family atmosphere. You get to learn the other guests quickly. Staff is friendly and helpful.

It was very calm and peaceful. The housekeeper, receptionist and the waiters were good with customer service. Loved that it was right in the town of ocho Rios. Rooms were great. Furnished great. Just the right place to get away.

Our arrival at the Sandcastle hotel started not so great the Desk clerk had everything in order but the Manager lacked much customer service. Lots of locals were there with their families and were not at all accommodating to the visitors to the property, they splashed in the pools with no regard to others, Marijuana fumes were everywhere, guest with children had to almost clear they way before going to the rooms because you never knew if you would run into a cloud of Ganga fumes, cats were everywhere on the property and left over food (cats food) were found in the hall outside of your door, one night someone left a whole chicken for the cats to consume. It was left right outside my door. The staff did not even inform us about the tours that we could have organized through the resort. They should remove the word resort it's just a hotel, Wi-Fi is not possible in your room for any length of time, very spotty and can't be guaranteed for more than 10-15 minutes unless you're in the lobby area. One delightful person is Donald who is part of the security staff, he was always pleasant and often gave us suggestions for eating and sights that we should see. Whenever we saw him he greeted us as if he was really happy to see us.

Very nice for the price but definitely not a resort. More like a 3 star motel. Which is fine as long as you know that's what you're getting. We had a nice time, and it's very close to margaritaville and local attractions like blue hole. Seems to be pretty secure. Lots of stray cats, they were very friendly.

Nice lowkey setting in the heart of Ochi Rios close to all facilities. Good if you are on a budget and want somewhere decent to stay. Place could do with some renovation to give it back its spark. I would stay here again in the future.

The units are individually owned, resulting in a big variation between rooms. As Sandcastles management is not responsible for individual units, they're not particularly receptive to issues (Wi-Fi, plumbing, etc. ) The restaurant is slow and overpriced. As you're centrally located you have LOTS of options. The pool is clean and often holds pool parties. The gate guards are awesome. Always happy to call up a friendly cab, and remember you quickly for reentry. The public beach you have access too has degraded over the years. Sad too see the jewel of Ochi diminish as it has. The rooms are reasonably priced for what you're getting.

A perfect place for a semi local who us familiar with Ocho Rios. Right. On the main road to everything. My go to hotel for me and my family. Note: no room service. This is a place for families or singles that don't mind cooking or going out to eat. They don't offer much on a menu they do carry basic night specials chicken fries maybe rice. Great place to stay at great rates.

The Hotel was very nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant above has quite expensive prices but offers high quality food.

Great location for exploring Ocho Rios and its surroundings. The property has a pool (though full of small insects at certain times of the year). Renovation going at some blocks. Not a 5 star resort, but makes for a great headquarters for getting things done nearby.
