THE city on a hill! One of the most spiritual places in Italy. Christmas here is peaceful and especially spiritually moving. Third time here, foretaste of heaven.

Another church that thinks it's too important for tourists to take photos, and nowhere near the most impressive we saw in Italy.

Even though it was put up in a relatively short time to celebrate the life of a saint who emphasized the importance of poverty, there's nothing that can compare to the wealth of frescoes that date from the dawn of an artistic awakening in Europe. The restorations from the earthquake of 1997 are amazingly well done. Magnificent structure; even better wall decorations. Expect to spend at least a couple of hours to get the full benefits from the experience. Reading up ahead of time will only help.

This is a must-see, and if you are catholic, or a lover of St. Francis, it is worth a trip to Assisi. I've never been to a basilica with so much to see — from the two sanctuaries, to the basement area and the extensive frescos, you can spend hours here. I was also impressed by the uniqueness of both of the sanctuaries. And the exterior is gorgeous, with extensive views of the valley below.

Assisi is a very must visit for tourists. It has all the charm of spiritual and touristic place to be. An ancient city with narrow streets. And the basilica is beautiful! Spent a night there. Worth the visit.

Beautiful Basilica! The atmosphere is different … a little messy with too many pilgrims, but there is!

If you like basilicas this is one of the finest. Lapis lazuli from Persia was used for the blue sky mosaic in the ceiling.

The magnificent basilica of Assisi is one of the most important centers of Christianity not only in Italy but throughout the world. Beautiful is the upper church with frescoes by Giotto and unfortunately with the scars of the recent earthquake. But even more intense is the atmosphere in the lower basilica where in an intimate environment but also densely decorated you can stop an instant in prayer at the tomb of the Saint.

Damaged by the earthquake of ' 97, now is back shining as always. To see calmly in order to fully appreciate all the details.

Wonderful quaint city, this church epitomizes the quiet and peaceful beauty that encompasses Assisi.

Amazing place… the people… people… the Basilica… and all this aura of peace.

The lower basilica there is the tomb of Saint Francis, patron saint of Italy. At the top you can admire the wonderful frescoes by Giotto.
A mass in this church is a beautiful experience.

The inner peace that accompanied me all the time, breathing spirituality, master I felt in my home… the poor of Asis. Paz and well.
