Fabulous old castle with stunning suites and stunning views and grounds. It should be noted that this is not a hotel, so you make your own bed.

We loved our stay at the castle! It felt very authentic down to the dungeon cell in one of our bedrooms but our apartment was lovely with gorgeous views over the gardens and of the landscape. We stayed in Il Cardinale which was plenty space for the 4 of us, could’ve easily shared with another couple. The location is perfect for exploring nearby Tuscan towns and only a few hours from other major cities. Our favorite was ebiking around seeing our castle and many others. The restaurant was delicious with reasonable prices. It definitely is a self catering apartment as described so don’t expect any hotel vibes. Perfect for us!

Beautiful holiday, staff super friendly and helpful, location is stunning but you will need a car if you want to get out and about, public transport was a little difficult. As a family we made many memories and would return.

They can host big party events very well. I just had my wedding event there for 3 nights and the staff there were so helpful and friendly. Turns out I had the best vacation of my life there, not only there were family and friends celebrating with me but also how the service was so great. The place has its own unique vibe to it, if you look forward to these kind if set-up then you will be happy with your stay. I highly recommend this place. — 5 stars.

The greatest owners Son and Mother in the world and so down to earth and loving people. The staff is professional as the owners. The castle is immaculate.

The surroundings and the amazing old buildings the fabulous doors and decor in the buildings. Beautiful pool area and lovley coffee.

My wife and I got married here in May of 2018. We had about 30 guests and all of us stayed in the various rooms throughout the castle grounds. I cannot speak highly enough about the staff at the castle. Neither my wife or I speak Italian, but with the help of the staff we were able to plan a rehearsal, wedding, dinner, and breakfast all through email. When we arrived, they had all of our keys and information laid out and ready for us to check in and head to our rooms to prepare for the weekend. The restaurant at the castle prepared a 4 course dinner and a buffet style breakfast for all of our guests, both of which were fantastic. The views from the castle grounds are absolutely beautiful, and the grounds themselves are amazing and full of history. I highly recommend this castle for any event or just a week to relax in Tuscany. We plan on coming back here whenever we get the chance.

I have stayed at Montegufoni 3 times and am preparing to rerurn. It's a treasure and a beautiful, relaxing place to call temporary home. Please note that it is a castle that rents rooms, it is not a full service hotel. Most apartments are accessed by steep stairs, there is no 24-hour front desk, no room service, no breakfast service. But what you do get is a peaceful, Tuscan countryside experience in a piece of history, your own kitchen in which to cook, loads of space, and heavenly views.

Beautiful place to stay — such a treat to spend our time in Tuscany in an 11th century castle. We felt like royalty! The restaurant is also very excellent. I recommend trying their specialty steaks and tiramisu!

While we were only there for a few days celebrating my niece's wedding, it felt like we had come home. The beauty and history is amazing, and I love that the service is great, but not overly intrusive like at a hotel. The experience of the wedding was perfect and the room was just right, but the telling experience for us was when our rental car was broken into while on a day trip to Pisa. After dealing with the Italian police — which was fine, but tiring — we returned and… stretched a plastic grocery bag over the broken window to keep the rain showers out and crawled into bed. The next morning I went out to find that custom fit piece of plastic had been taped over the window by the staff before the office had even opened up. Our car rental company left it up to us to negotiate the replacement of the window (we do NOT recommend Enterprise), but the staff stepped up and called the shop to help make the arrangements (in Italian). I cannot say enough good things about these people — so kind! We continued our trip in a temporary replacement rental, but had to return to Florence to pick up the first car. We completely revised our itinerary to deal with the car, but were able to stop back in at the castle for another night when we returned to Florence to switch vehicles. They held our room for us as the next guests weren't arriving for another day, and we got to expand on our Montegufoni experience.

The location was magnificent, but unfortunately there was no service. They are understaffed, and there is nobody there between 6:30 pm and 8:00 am. I have never stayed at a timeshare or hotel that required me to buy toilet paper and soap. One night I got locked in the pool area. Also, there was no security. They told me that it wasn't needed. I wish all of this would have been disclosed, prior to our booking. It would take little for them to bring this property up to par. In the end, it is similar to staying in a cabin. I will definitely return to this part of Italy, but I won't stay at this location.

Super interesting place to stay outside of Florence. A little too far from the city to get 5 stars. That said, it was clean, comfortable, and absolutely unique in every way. Further, it had breathtaking views of the countryside and a quirky restaurant that was fun to visit. The nearby town has a single restaurant and bar which was top-notch.

We were there for a wedding and the wedding-couple had rented the whole shebang, therefore my experience may be a tad on the outskirts of "normal". However, the castle is gorgoeus and well kept. The apartments are old and rustic which adds to the castle-feeling. All personnel is extremely friendly and inviting. The pool is modern and fresh. We had some great pool-parties in it :D All and all, if you want to get some Italian countryside vibes with a fancy touch — this is the place.

What a wonderful experience. The staff were friendly and extreamly accommodating. We used the castle as a home base and traveled a lot throughout Italy. There were 8 of us and we all had a wonderful time. Great place to stay and relax without going anywhere. Would highly recommend this place. Will stay here again in the future.

It is lovely grounds. And we don't mind the lack of modernization. But DO NOT stay there when it is hot. Our room was on the third floor, windows open, fans on, but NO ventilation. It was over 100 degrees F in our room (I am not exaggerating) And would NOT cool. Family had heat rash, headaches and nausea. We had to leave mid way through our stay. And they did not seem to care that we were physically ill. We would have liked to stay our full reservation but our health was at risk. They would not refund the nights we had to leave.

Nice place to relax, unfortunately nothing special in the immediate vicinity, yet good to use as a starting point for Florence and Pisa. Castle is really nice to look at, the pool could tolerate more and more comfortable loungers.

My wife and I did a Groupon from JFK and had an amazing trip. Reviews that say it's a castle and it is not a five star experience are spot on. If you are looking for a Ritz Carlton experience, you should not go.
What it offers is a delightful authentic Italian experience, that embraces the history and is rustic. The rooms are comfortable, some have open fires. The views are breathtaking and the restaurant is delicious and inspires conversation with your fellow guests.
It's located perfectly to travel easily to all the best Tuscan attractions.
We are planning on going back, it leaves a memory that you want to have again.
