Il Conte Matto

In the middle of nowhere in a small hilltop one horse town sits IL Conte Matto. The food is all very traditional Tuscan. We had a pasta with Truffles, Ribolitta, Wild Boar stew, Rack of Lamb and Tiramisu. The Wild Boars stew was delicious and very interesting in a cocoa based sauce. Ribolitta filled with fresh vegetables and topped with scallions. We discovered this place about 15 years ago and returned several times. It’s actually worth the drive from civilization…lol.

Cheese and jam were delicious as an appetizer.
Ravioli was great. Chicken and rabbit dish were good — chicken delicious, rabbit was dry.
Almond parfait dessert was to die for.
Views are spectacular.
The guy had great service, but the woman seemed pretty sour.

Absolutely advicing this resturant to anybody! For norwegians like us this was truly a amazing experience. Well deserved 5 stars. Thank you so much for a excellense visit.

Food was great, as well as service, the water came out in moldy glass bottles, as if they haven’t been cleaned, the silverware given with dessert came out with dried chunks of food on it, as if it was never washed. Service and food is great but be aware of the dishes…

We were looking forward to this restaurant visit with its high recommendations. Perhaps it was the choices I made but I didn’t enjoy the food. I had vegetable soup. Perhaps it’s suppose to be so thick. Very stodgy and not very tasty. The rabbit and chicken dish was tough and the bean dish I had to accompany it was over salted. The lamb that one guest had was rather tasteless. The beef was good. The tiramisu was excellent.
My experience wasn’t helped by the sour waitress. The owner (? ) was pleasant enough.

Fantastic food and super authentic Tuscan cuisine — this was definitely a highlight on our road trip through the hills of Tuscany. Make sure to stop for lunch/ dinner here at Il Conte Matto when you're traveling through Trequanda. The staff was super friendly and passionate about the food they were serving. Can highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic Tuscan meal.

I don’t k ow what was more terrible — the service or the food. The waitress “welcomed” us with a sour face, took order with constantly making sure how much of an effort she makes for us. It took them ages to bring the food and when it finally arrived it was absolutely tasteless! We had the lamb ribs (tasted like paper) and catch of the day (filled with tomato sauce to the point you couldn’t taste the meat). Just absolutely terrible experience 🥴

This place was very well recommended. But it did not meet the expectations. Unfortunately the food was mediocre and did not correspond to the charged price. The wine was good, I think it cannot go wrong in Tuscany.

The view is the only thing why it is worth visiting the place. But in others towns we visited better places with great view, as well. First impression was good, but then nothing met expectations and the total price is not worth the experience. If service would be improved, then it would ve already great win for the place.

Restaurant located in a panoramic position and very atmospheric with a terrace of about 1400.
Excellent welcome from a professional and unobtrusive staff.
Excellent dishes, a mix of ancient flavors, certainly revisited by a chef very attentive to raw materials and culinary innovations.
Stratospheric wine list.
Super recommended!
