Very cheap accommodation compared to other hotels. You can tell from the photos it is going to be basic, but it suited me perfectly for what I needed, one night. Fantastic location, clean and has all you might need. Breakfast was toast jam and a cappuccino at the bistro, literally round the corner, less than 1 min. View of the lake from the shared rooftop terrace. You can book more room if available, so would suit families or friends. Tea and coffee, kettle and microwave are a nice touch. Bathroom was clean, powerful shower and I didn't bump into my neighbours, who you share the bathroom with. I stayed in Passiflora room, there is also somewhere tomstore luggage of needed. Thanks for a lovely stay. Varenna was pretty, I went out of season, but it was still busy. Of you are heading to this part of Lake Como I recommend staying in Mandello del lario, the next train stop from Varenna. Very pretty and peaceful.
The only positive thing about this hotel is the gorgeous location and mountain view—that’s where the good experience ends. For $345 for 2 nights, the room (the viola/violet colour) was a complete dump. It was depressingly dark, horrible, and desperately needs updating.
The bathroom was antiquated, and the "hairdryer" felt like it was from the 1950s and was completely ineffective. Everything about the room felt neglected and very, very basic.
To top it off, the included "breakfast" is a voucher for a local café offering a coffee and a choice of cake or sticky bun—I do not classify this as breakfast. This hotel is severely overpriced for the extremely poor quality and lack of amenities. Do not stay here until they perform a full, necessary refurbishment.

What a disappointment. So many issues with this place.
1. This is not really a bnb, its a hostel where other guests will be sharing common spaces like bathrooms with you and the walls are paper thin so you will hear every time they move around. The front door also requires a good slam to actually shut, so make sure to manually lock your doors at night as someone will inevitably leave it open.
2. The air conditioning in the rooms does not seem to be functional between the hours of 5pm and 3am, expect to sweat to death if youre here in the warmer months.
3. Going back to the paper thin walls, you are about 30 meters from a historic church. Cute right? Not really if you planned on getting any sleep. The bells will go off at 11pm and 7am every day, and the 7am bells go for a full 60 seconds straight, its pretty much impossible to sleep through.
4. The beds and their bedding are horribly uncomfortable. Its like sleeping on a piece of plywood with a child's comforter from Walmart and crap pillows.
5. The breakfast is a voucher to a local café for a juice and a muffin. Not much of a meal.
The only benefit to this place is the walking distance to the square, but with the paper thin walls you should expect to hear all the noise from the square as if you were standing in it while you're in your room.
