WARNING**Your belongings are not safe here"! Please stay away and read below. I can count on one hand how many times I have posted a review, so I am taking the time to post this review to help educate any potential visitors. My wife and I just spent two nights at La Palazzina in Venice. Upon arriving we had just traveled 23 hours and wanted to take a nap. We took off the comforter to lay down on the sheets only to realize that there were multiple human hairs. One or two is just life but there were at least five hairs that we saw. After making this discovery we walked over and notified the front desk. We asked if we could change rooms, but they were 100% booked. Luckily, they were willing to have their house cleaner go back over and exchange the sheets immediately so we could take a nap. The next day my wife and I left early to get lost in Venice and experience all it had to offer. Online the hotel says they have a safe in each room. When we checked in and received a tour of our room the safe was never shown to us. I thought it would be in the closet but it was nowhere to be found. In fact, the safe is accessed through a hidden door right when you walk in. Because we couldn't find the safe we decided to hide our $600 US dollars in a secret compartment in my backpack that we were leaving in the room. Unless you were really searching it would be hard to find this pocket where the money and our passports were hidden. Anyway, my wife and I returned back around 3:00pm to take a quick break before going out for the night. Our room had not been cleaned and there was a stack of fresh sheets on the night stand. We thought it was odd that the hotel brought in new sheets but didn't clean the room. We left the hotel again and didn't return until 9:30pm. The next morning we were packing up all our things to leave on a train to Milan. I checked the secret pocket and the $600 US dollars was gone! Now we started to panic and began checking our entire room to make sure we had not misplaced the money. We took everything out of our bags and white glove searched the room. After searching for about 30 minutes I had to confront the hotel. Obviously, the hotel thought we were a little crazy and didn't look hard enough. The manager Angelo was professional and took us back to the room to help check again. He tore the entire room apart and made us take everything out of our bags. We didn't find the money! He was apologetic but said it's our fault because we didn't use the safe provided in the room. Honestly, nobody showed us where the hidden safe was because that's where the money would have been saved. Long story short, nothing else was taken but the $600 cash. The only person with a key able to enter our room was the hotel cleaners. I know it sounds crazy but we are 100% positive that money was in our bag and when we had to leave it was gone. Not only did we loose our $600 in US dollars but we had to miss our train to Milan trying to figure out the situation. The hotel was willing to do very little to help our situation and made it seem like it was our fault that their cleaning person came into our room and stole our $600 from our hidden pocket. There is a certain level of trust everyone has with the staff of a hotel. People should feel safe and should be able to leave their things out without having to worry. The hotel at this time has refused to reimburse any of the lost money. It's an unfortunate situation for both sides but my wife and I are a young couple touring through Europe and $600 is a lot of money to us. I'm very upset this happened and I would HIGHLY recommend staying somewhere else where your belongings are safe.
