This was an exceptional Villa. Situated within walking distance of Amalfi, the Villa has an amazing setting in the cliff face rivalling some of the best hotels in the area. On top of that, the service is of high hotel quality — permanent staff presence, food and drinks available 24/7 and lovely rooms. Would highly recommend this to anyone.

Luisa, the manager, was so incredibly helpful and clear at communicating. Once there she made everything so easy and lovely. Gerardo was amazing in helping in any way he could, especially by helping us get our bags up and down the many stairs. This is a very special place, with only 8 rooms and a very intimate feeling. There are many layers of seating along the cliff face that is perched upon, including sun beds, a cabana, a sauna, a private beach and private pier. It's in a stunning location and is very easy to get a bus or taxi into Amalfi proper. Buses run every half hour during the days (hourly until 22:00 at night). The bus stop is just outside and it takes 15 minutes. Highly recommend this place!

Views are beautiful, private jump off is nice, breakfast was good, beds and pillows aren't great (but it's also Europe so not many places' are)

We stayed here for our honeymoon in the separate chalet to the side of the main villa. A beautiful private setting with our own panoramic views across the bat of Salerno, our own jacuzzi and well appointed room. The villa is only 8 mins bus from amalfi town and a 2 minute walk from 3 restaurants. A private beach tops it all off. Like every where in amalfi be prepared to like stairs.

We stayed in this lovely hotel in early June 2009 and had a wonderful experience. The couple who own and manage it are young, elegant, intelligent, friendly, and helpful. The rooms are modern & clean, the views stunning. The common areas are elegant and modern in the best of Italian tradition. Things to consider are that (like most places on Amalfi Coast) one has to navigate stairs to get to the hotel from the road and that parking is on the street. Staff helps with suitcases. For those willing to descend (and later climb) more stairs, there is a lovely private beach for a swim or a daring skinny dip. Along the way down to the water, there is a small sauna with a view and even some rec machines. As mentioned elsewhere, breakfast is very good. The owner accommodated our wish to have dinner brought in from a local restaurant which was served under moonlight in the garden section where breakfast is also served. It was magical. Having had the good fortune of a fair bit of international travel to attractive destinations, we spent a good deal of time looking for the right place to celebrate a round birthday and couldn't have found a better place to stay. If tranquility and charm are what you are looking for in a central location on the stunningly beautiful Amalfi Coast, you found the right place. It prices are a bargain for what Villa Santa Maria offers.
