I cannot say enough good things about the experience we had with Sextantio Albergo Diffuso arranging our wedding celebration last summer. From the ceremony at Rocca Calascio to the dinner at the Locanda, it was just a magical day. Our guests LOVED the hotel and continue to talk about returning. It's an incredibly unique and almost moving experience to know that your staying in buildings that are hundreds of years old. As far as the arrangements, Sextantio is an expert in all things wedding. We wouldn't have been able to have such a lovely day without them. Donatella, one of the event organizers, is wonder woman, seemingly in more than one place at once and taking care of things before you even have time to realize that they need to be taken care of. Roberta was also a big help! The whole staff, including the workers at the restaurant, were kind and helpful. If you're thinking about having your wedding here, don't hesitate! We simply cannot wait to go back one day.

Although not to much adapted if you have small children, due to the many stairs! We loved it very much! It’s unique!

My husband and I came to celebrate a special occasion and we’re met with an experience that went beyond our dreams. Being history lovers and loving unique places, we never imagined the genuine care that was taken in every aspect of this hotel and project to restore its beauty. An unbelievable place that leaves you speechless. More than just a hotel, it is an experience. Beautifully blended into the village, simple and at the same time hugely romantic. A must see!

Everybody in this little village seems relaxed. It might be the stunning view they have every day. We visited a wedding that took place here and the organization went smooth, food was great and we enjoyed it a lot.

S. Stefano di Sessanio is a fortified medieval village built in the mountains of Abruzzo at over 1250 meters altitude, within the Gran Sasso National Park and Laga Mountains. The current urban configuration of the village is formed in the middle of the Middle Ages when the phenomenon of integration develops: a settlementist landscape characterized by high-sea dwellings, surrounded by a fortified wall perimeter that still remain today one of the most characteristic historical and topographical elements of the Italian landscape. The integrity between land and historical construction has been preserved residually in some villages encased in the Apennine mountain precisely because of their depopulation, in the more general context of depletion of the south, abandonment of the mountain and emigration of his people.

A unique experience of living in a small village that brings you back in the medieval era by allowing you stay in a place where you sleep in one of the houses where furniture and design mimics the old days. The fireplace, the table, chairs, the walls and the doors will bring you back to the past! But they do ensure that you are comfortable by providing nice bed, modern bathroom coupled with good Wi-Fi and wonderful hospitality of the staff.

That the property was a place of great charm, professionalism and courtesy was undoubted. The understanding, humanity and ability to manage the unexpected due to the difficulties of a guest was not taken for granted. Sextantio was able to meet me with great care and attention. A unique and fantastic experience. Despite the village being hundreds of years old, the rooms are impeccable, and very comfortable. The food at the hotel restaurant is some of the best to be found in Italy. Fantastic service as well. Highly recommended all around! You won't forget it!

Great place to stay. Very much a midievil house experience with creature comforts. Breakfast is fresh and simple. Very much enjoyed the bath and fire in our room.

Sito nel centro di Santo Stefano di Sessanio, piccolo borgo in provincia de L'Aquila, l'albergo è stato completamente ristrutturato, le camere tutte diverse tra loro sono accoglienti e curate nei minimi particolari. Certo non si avranno tutti I confort a cui siamo abituati, ma è proprio questo il bello dell'esperienza. L'albergo comprende ancheil ristorante, una tisaneria ed il cantinone dove è possibile degustare ottimi vini. Inoltre il Wi-Fi copre l'intero complesso. Sicuramente un'esperienza da vivere.

I honestly have no words for this place. And five stars are simply not enough. Even ten may not be enough honestly. It is one man’s effort that has brought the little town of Santo Stefano di Sessanio alive and that is incredibly commendable. I just wish that we could have stayed longer. The place is beautiful beyond imagination and all the rooms that we saw were so beautifully done. So much attention to detail. And Donatella from their team was fantastic. And so was Denise and the others but Donatella just stood out. Very very guest oriented. Extremely fantastic experience and we wish them all the best. We are super satisfied guests. Again just wish that we could have stayed longer. I keep dreaming of the mesmerising vistas that we saw. Kudos.

It seems to live in a historical re-enactment! Small village full of delightful details, young staff, courteous and highly professional. Renovated rooms but with modern comforts. It is not for everyone, but it is a paradise for those who appreciate certain atmospheres of the past, the simplicity and the refinement of the details, the silence and the absolute tranquility…

Very impressive hotel in Abruzzo: A hotel spread where it seems to be catapultatu at the beginning of the century. In the room only candles and houses let com were then. A unique experience to live. Friendly and diaponibile staff. Accetgano animals. Recommended.

It seems that time has not passed in this little village in the mountains of L'Aquila.

It is many years that we spend entire days observing every detail, every facet of this country, almost intact over time. Many features have been preserved as the tradition of wool and good local food. When you want to remove the plug from work or discover new realities, time stops and is always the space built, that together with the unique landscapes give us a new dimension, that within us.

Rooms furnished as once: very impressive, although not always everything functional. For example the lack of a shower cubicle, replaced by a light curtain led to the complete flooding of the bathroom. In addition, with the cold, the draughts allowed to enter from period windows can become annoying. I read from the reviews that many people remain impressed in a negative way but unfortunately it has to be accepted too! As I was April and I was a little bad about only the fact that the SPA was not yet finished and I will return when I know that you will be able to use! In fact, there is a need for an inner sensitivity that not all possess, and I am referring to the sensitivity of people who have lived at least for a time, the stories and the stories of grandparents who lived exactly that way! I for three days I thought about what I was told by my grandmother when without a tv, we gathered before the fireplace and told us he had but the cold in the winter you had to get to bed on wool mattresses placed on wooden boards and no one had back pain! I remembered the things that I warmed the heart and I felt the affection and the nostalgia of my grandmother, who always said to me: it was better when we had nothing! Obviously missing anything you can find in a luxury 5 star hotel, but for three days has never died no, we ate very well and we breathed pure air! Beautiful.

A truly lovely place lost in a forgotten and romantic past. Kind service, always accountable and quality comforts. I truly recommend to try this esperience. Unforgettable!

As he wrote another reviewer, either he loves or hates himself. The rooms are in all respects old houses furnished with the style of the first of the ' 900, so they are spartan but, at least for those who choose it during the booking, have a comfortable fireplace and maybe even the bathtub in the bathroom. Faucets and sinks are new so calm you can wash yourself. The pillow and the mattress hard but they could not please everyone, so I recommend to bring home a pillow…
The dinner is very good with dishes all at 0 km, and is a real leap of quality for this hotel (tip for starters the fried pizza with herb cream pecorino). Santo Stefano di Sessanio, the country that frames this widespread hotel, will bring you back for a few days to life as it once was and that today has been forgotten.
Only negative the heating which, for a problem I think common to other rooms, was not working well and was quite cold. The management has solved I would say brilliantly offering us a change of room, a heater and a small discount.

My wife and I just returned from our first trip to Italy. For two nights, we quietly celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary at Sextantio | Santo Stefano di Sessanio | Albergo Diffuso. The experience for us was very humbling and exceeded our expectations. When we entered our room, we were speechless. The management and staff are kind, attentive and knowledgeable. Well worth the journey and we look forward to returning to this special place.

Wonderful people, beautiful rooms and an amazing little town determined to rebuild after the 2009 earthquake. It was a phenomenal and unique experience I'll never forget.

A unique place. Wonderful concept, food was quite good, but questionable value for money.

The hotel is set in a very picturesque location on a hill. The rooms are small horses in a restored village. If you're looking for a way to escape and unwind it is highly recommended.

We have just left after two nights in Santo Stefano Di Sessanio. The entire experience was amazing. The 'hotel' was the Dell Casa com Grotte suite. We had been upgraded because we had already been to the property in Matera (also amazing). The room was cosy with a fireplace and living area and the bedroom was upstairs. The bathroom had a huge double bathtub and there were candles everywhere to create a romantic mood. The local area is spectacularly stunning, high in the mount…ains. We had snow on our final morning which made the town look picture perfect. Get out and about in the area and check out some of the other towns and drive to Gran Sasso for some beautiful mountain views.
The restaurant is also very good, we had two meals there and the variety and quality of the food was excellent. We will be returning and bringing friends with us, and recommending the experience to others.

Chic and authentic hotel in an exceptional setting. Total freedom to enjoy or not all of its abilities. Real comfort Despite the rusticity of the place.

I stayed there with my husband, the week before Christmas 2014.
A magical place, if you close your eyes you could imagine going back in time and dream of a country in the 400. The riscaldamentol under the floor and the comforts to enjoy a pleasant stay in a rustic environment and respectful of local customs and history.
Kitchen at km 0, tasty and healthy. The Cook told us with pride the choices with regard to product quality and on time. Great location and call it the best stay I've ever had, thanks to warm weather and a generous nature. Don't miss Rocca Calascio (close).

The hotel is an enchanting village full of charm!
The very friendly and helpful staff makes you feel as if you were a friend you go to switch between them a weekend between smiles, scents, colours and flavours and refined.
The room where I was brought back in time and being involved in a magical and sensual. Impossible not to fall in love in a place where you can feel the joy, excitement and love!
Return to the Sextantio is a desire that I hope to meet soon.

My wife and I have just returned from our Roman holiday during which time we spent 2 nights at Sextantio. It was the highlight of our trip. Food, service and room was really good. There was a fireplace in the room too. Modern bathroom facilities in a 500 year old setting with huge wooden beams in the ceilings and thick walls with small shuttered windows opening onto stunning views. The hardest bed I have ever experienced which was strangely good for our backs. These people are really trying hard to make a go of it as the earthquake of 2009 took a pretty big toll on the town and surrounding district. We went walking up onto the hill opposite the village, the one with the little cross on it and the view was breathtaking as are the views from all over the village. Visited a little town called Rocca Calascio with its stunning ruined castle. As for the simple little Lentil specialising restaurant run by Gepetto and his wife and very helpful son Andrea within the village we couldn't have had better meals. The food and wine in the cantina at the Sextantio with its medieval fireplace was excellent too. We would recommend this place and will be going back somehow.
