I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt it should be shared.
Unfortunately, I became sick and had to cancel my reservation. I booked through Trip. Com, and I have to give them credit — their customer service was excellent. They contacted the hotel on my behalf and genuinely tried to help resolve the situation.
The problem was the hotel. Despite knowing the reason for the cancellation, they refused to make any exception or offer any refund. This wasn’t a case of changing my mind or finding a cheaper option. I simply couldn’t travel because I was sick.
I completely understand that cancellation policies exist, but hospitality is about treating guests like people, not reservation numbers. A little flexibility in exceptional circumstances would have gone a long way.
Instead, I lost my money for a room I never had the chance to use. That left a very negative impression, and unfortunately I can’t recommend a hotel that chooses rigid policies over basic compassion.

Coming here for lunch, the area is very nice, even better than the photos posted, I recommended, it’s really peacefull here.
The service is very nice as well, the staff speak english, it’s conveniant for foreigners.
The food presentation is well done and elegant, however, the taste is average.
Dishes ordered:
Tahu isi, pumpkin soup,
Gado gado, udang bakar honey, pakis gulai,
Pisang goreng, lava cake,
Jus jambu and mango, kopi.

Teras Ijen is an amazing place to stay. The hotel is absolutely beautiful — thoughtfully designed, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. We originally booked for one night but loved it so much that we actually left our next accommodation early just so we could come back and stay here again.
The team who run the hotel are incredible and couldn’t have done more for us during our stay. They really go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. A special mention to Amir, who was fantastic. It was my birthday while we were there and the team made it really special, which we really appreciated.
It’s also perfectly positioned for visiting Mount Ijen, which we did after our first night — making it a great base if you’re planning the hike.
Overall this was one of our favourite places we’ve stayed on our trip so far (after 2 months travelling! ). Such a relaxing, special place and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Banyuwangi.
