Purwa Ijen

The location is actually very convenient—just a 30-minute drive from the starting point of the Ijen hike. The only challenge is if you’re on a motorbike and not an experienced rider. The last 200-300 meters off the main road leading to the hotel can be tough. It’s a very narrow, uphill path.
The hotel itself consists of several small cottages—cozy, clean, and well-kept. It’s a really pleasant place to stay. Huge thanks to the hosts for their hospitality! They went out of their way to make our visit enjoyable. When I asked for jam at breakfast (which they didn’t have), they made some fresh for me on the spot using local fruits, and it was absolutely delicious.
Overall, I recommend this place. Just be sure to bring mosquito spray, as there are lots of mosquitoes and other insects around. We even saw a small group of monkeys passing by the cottages. Unlike the aggressive monkeys in Ubud, these ones were shy and quickly ran off at the sound of a voice.

The villa was well clean. Nicely finished and with a great look and surroundings a perfect stay!
The breakfast you get every morning is also very good. Everything comes from their own garden and tastes great.

My partner and I had a fantastic experience at this homestay. Although we booked quite late—around midnight—they responded as soon as they could, reaching out to us by 4 a. M. Which we really appreciated. They went above and beyond by even preparing our room by 9 a. M. Even though check-in was officially at 12 p. M. This flexibility made us feel incredibly welcomed from the start.
Their communication was prompt and attentive throughout our stay, always addressing our requests quickly. They helped us arrange everything we needed, from medical screening to a tour package for Mount Ijen, as well as airport transfers, bike rental and breakfast. The Mount Ijen tour was excellent, and they even included a hot drink at the summit, which was a thoughtful touch!
The breakfast at Purwa Ijen was another highlight. They serve fresh fruit juices and provide a fruit platter before the main course, which was refreshing and delicious. However, we would have appreciated a slightly larger portion for breakfast.
We were assigned a staff member, Wisnu, who was exceptional. He was incredibly cheerful, always greeting us with a big smile and making us feel right at home. Kudos to Wisnu for his warm hospitality!
The room itself was spacious, clean, and well-kept, with a tranquil ambiance. Although being in a mountainous area means the occasional insect visitor, it wasn’t an issue. The setting was peaceful, with sounds of birds chirping and the river nearby, which added to the charm.
