Grilled chicken toasty (and a warm shower + amenities) for 125 K IDR.
Shoutout to Kotta Hotel for offering a service which has yet to become common (AFAIK) in Indonesia — namely that of offering a relatively affordable option to shower and freshen up after taking an overnighter or red eye train. Located just 9 mins walk away from Tawang Station smack dab in the town center, it is quite a scenic and refreshing way to start your day in Semarang after sleeping on the overnight train.
The breakfast buffet itself is quite modest in terms of variety, but everything is well executed — it is definitely better than most breakfast buffets you can find in Indonesia, even those seemingly swankier joints. What does stand out is how good the free flow grilled chicken and fresh al dente baked beans on offer is — definitely above par for breakfast buffets and clearly a delight to those who like to load up on low carb options.
As for the sandwich itself, the poached eggs are just amazing in terms of texture and doneness. Just look at how fluffy those whites are! That being said, I truly do appreciate the fact that they do the eggs low sodium as to contrast how well seasoned the pieces of grilled chicken underneath are, but a bit more salt on the eggs and more pepper overall is how I would have preferred it. The sourdough toast is perfectly executed in terms of texture and softness, but again my personal preference would always be a much more golden toast.
Overall, for (what I reckon to be) a 75 K sandwich with access to free flow drinks, soup, beans, and even grilled chicken and 50 K shower option this is really a steal of a deal. The fact that you can see how the town center comes to life from the restaurant or the hotel lobby is just the scrumptious cherry on top.
