Couldn't be more happy with our stay at Alam Kita!. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel genuinely welcome, warm smiles, thoughtful touches, and quick help with anything we needed. The rooms were comfortable, spotless, and designed with a simple, natural style that fits the surroundings perfectly.
Service was consistently excellent, friendly, attentive, and never intrusive. Margot and her staff clearly care about the place and the guests, and it shows in all the small things: tips for local activities, arranging transport, and checking in to make sure everything’s right. Even a private boat tour with scuba diving and snorkeling equipment was arranged, a lovely experience.
You can enjoy amazing food on the premises which makes you never want to leave the grounds. Everything you need is within reach.
Sunset on that pier is something we will never forget.
Would give 6 out of 5 stars if I could.

Alam Kita means “our nature” in Indonesian, and that is Margo’s concept. As much comfort as possible with as less interference to nature as necessary. The rooms are quite spacious and, of course, do not have A/C. Every single staff is very friendly and helpful, although some of them only speak limited English.
Lunch and dinner are a set menu (mini buffet) and optional at a cost; every time freshly cooked and very, very tasty Indonesian home cooking by Ira.
Whilst you can enter the sea from the beach, they also have a landing bridge that takes you into deeper water (which is not blue, but still nice).
Overall, a very nice experience on Karimunjawa and very good value for money.

A Hidden Gem in Karimun Jawa – Absolutely Recommended!
Ala Kita Hotel made our stay in Karimun Jawa truly unforgettable! The property is beautifully integrated into nature, thoughtfully designed, and very well maintained. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful – we felt genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived.
Our room was clean, tastefully decorated, and had a cozy terrace with a lovely view of the garden. The breakfast each morning was fresh, delicious, and varied – a perfect start to the day. We also really appreciated the peaceful and relaxed atmosphere throughout the hotel – ideal for unwinding and enjoying the island vibes.
The location is great: quiet and surrounded by nature, yet still close enough to the town center. Scooters can be rented directly at the hotel, making it super easy to explore the island.
Huge thanks to the entire Ala Kita team – we will definitely be back!

Thanks to Margo, we were still able to travel to Karimunjawa despite some difficulties – she was a real lifesaver! She took care of everything for us: organized tours, booked accommodation, and always kept us informed. The room, especially the bathroom, was very clean. The communication felt very personal – she regularly checked in to see how we were doing. The whole team was also amazing: super friendly, helpful, and always in a good mood. If we ever go back to Karimunjawa, it will definitely be only with Alam Kita! 💙

It's a difficult review to write as we have quite mixed feelings about our stay.
Let's start with our first impression. We arrived and we were not really greeted or introduced, but rather 'here is your room' style. Then, the booked bungalow 'kreasi' I'd definitely not recommend — it's on the very top of the hill, next to the chickens of the neighbor, burnt rests of banana trees and rubbish on the floor. Only basic furniture — nothing to put your clothes. Overall not so nice.
When we mentioned this to Evi, the manager, she was empathetic and really tried her best to help and she did, with organizing 3/5 nights in other bungalows. This is in general something very positive to highlight. Also Ira's lunch is unbeatable — so delicious! As well she's taking requests.
Then to the whole ambience and surroundings — we were very disappointed by the state of the coral reef and the water quality close by. Very murky and the corals around almost all dead. Overall a lot of trash on the island and one can see it's not treated as a national park — above and below water. Therefore our stay on Karimunjawa in general was a bit disappointing.
To top this off — it's absolutely impossible to get the tickets to and from the island by yourself. (the app won't accept any form of payment apart from local bank accounts) One basically has to ask for help. And here Alam kita is 'offering their help' with a surcharge of 50%!

What an amazing place. Like a home from home with all the luxuries we appreciate. We stayed a week for a love retreat and Margo organised everything for us beyond and above. The food was amazing, the activities, comfy bed, there is a jetty for easy swimming access, the surroundings are beautiful and first and foremost the amazing staff. They also organised our ferry tickets. Thank you so much Alam Kita for an amazing week. We will sure be back.

Thank you to the entire team at Alam Kita, we've had an amazing stay! During our three days there, everthing was cared for as soon as we asked — help with the ferry tickets, snorkelling trip, scooter rental, all was taken cared of. This is perfect if you want to relax in nature! It's not fancy, no AC (but a ventilator), no sandy beaches — that was exactly what we wanted and we could really relax and live the island life. Terima kasih!

Alam Kita is a very beautiful resting place in the middle of nature with a stunning sea view, it feels like coming home to the village.
There is a jetty where you and your family can jump directly into the sea to chat with small ornamental fish and other marine life.
The Family Room is simple but clean and comfortable with an open bathroom without a roof outside the room which is nice. Reminds me of when I was a child in the village bathing in the open air.
Margo and her team are very friendly and extraordinary in doing everything to make your family's stay memorable so that you can relax & rest completely.
We enjoyed staying there and hope to comeback again soon.
A must visit if you are in Karimunjawa…!

A beautiful retreat nestled in nature with stunning sea views and a jetty where you can jump straight into the ocean. The food is delicious, and the massages are incredibly relaxing. Margo and her team are amazing, making sure every detail is taken care of so you can fully unwind. A must-visit in Karimunjawa!

It was a such beautiful and nice place. The owner and the team were just amazing. We really loved it and enjoyed the time we had there. There was nice and clear bungalows and the sea just in front of was very clear. You also can est lunch and dinner, they sre serving an indonesia buffet which is small but very delicious.

I have stayed at Alam Kita for almost two weeks for a retreat. And I couldn’t have had it any better.
The voyage to get there forced me to relax. A flight to Jakarta. A train which takes you trough Java in comfort for 5 hours. Then a car ride to Jepara for 2 hours. Then finally a boat trip of 2 hours (fast ferry) to get to Karimunjawa. So you’ve seen all lot of Indonesia in many ways before you have arrived.
And then you arrive in little paradise called Alam Kita. It’s virtually impossible not to find your peace there. Swinging in a hammock in the shade by the sea, yoga or meditation in the Pendopo, being creative in the Rumah Hati, getting a massage or just sitting on one of the many benches scattered around and enjoying the tranquility with a cold drink in your hand.
The warmth Margo and her team give was exactly what I needed and seamed endless.
Margo herself as caring mom figure with stories and wisdom. Wawan willing to help and share his outlook at any moment. Evi making delicious food with Hesti and Nanda. And Irvan and Rianne filling in all the gaps and securing you are serviced. Total hospitality.
And if animals are to your liking, then you have enough choice. Flyr the goat, Willi the dog, Ponki and Moppi the cats and every building there own gecko to serenade you at night. I had Roberto sounding his gecko-call to tell me he was still with me. And lots of birds, you hear monkeys, etcetera.

For several months now, the daily grind has returned to us. How often do we long, in those fleeting moments, to return to the island, to that little gem? The memories of our stay at "Alam Kita" remain fresh and delightful even weeks later. We don't want to miss the chance to sing its praises publicly.
Thank you to the warm-hearted team for the amazing days. You weren't just a team; you became family for a while. Thanks to Irvan and Evi for the delicious meals at breakfast and in between. Thanks to Evi for your warm nature and the safe moped rides around the island. Thanks to Wawan for the chats about gardening, woodworking, life, and all the pleasant bla, bla, bla. A deep thank you to Meis for caring so sweetly for all of us, for spending time with our son Carl and showing him so much interest. Thanks to Margo for creating this little paradise and for surrounding yourself with such incredible people – even if we couldn't meet in person this time.
"Alam Kita" was the perfect place for us to slow down during our journey. Here, one has everything they need: Stylish wooden lodges, an open-air bathroom, tranquility, an impressive wooden pier stretching into the sea, unforgettable excursion opportunities, and the best temporary family one could imagine.

Alam Kita is a very welcoming place. Both the Dutch owner and her Indonesian staff are friendly and extremely helpful.
The food is ‘enak’ (delicious) and the surroundings are gorgeous. Beautiful trees, wildlife, a view of the Java sea.
A 111 meter long jetty protrudes into the sea so you can easily swim among the fish and the coral. The jetty also allows boats to moor if you go on a private snorkeling tour.

I love the hotel with its beautiful traditional bungalows. The staff and owner are lovely, very helpful and kind.
The food is really nice and the surroundings are gorgeous. I love the nature on and around Alam Kita. A beautiful jetty protrudes 111 meters into the sea allowing for swimming and snorkeling or for boats to moor if you go on a private snorkeling tour.

As family of four, we stayed for three nights at Alam Kita and had the best time living the island life. Swimming off the private beach, paddle boating, watching the sunset and stargazing from the private jetty. The rooms were rustic (no AC! ) but very clean and clean-smelling, the beds comfortable. The staff are nice and helpful, never intrusive but always available. They even packed us a nice breakfast for the ferry ride home. How thoughtful!
Bonus points for being pet-friendly. We brought our dog and was made very welcome by the host dog Willy. We’re missing him already 😊.

Had an amazing time at Alam Kita. This place has exceeded my expectations. The retreat turned out to be one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Besides the activities we did, I loved to spend time on the pier, to go for a swim during the day and watch the sunset and stars at night (extraordinary view). The people from Alam Kita were all very kind. The retreat was healing.
It was a fresh start for me.

Alam Kita is a beautiful place with a very nice beach. Its a must visit when you go to Karimunjawa. Margo and her team are very friendly, they do everything to make your stay memorable. It is a great place to relax. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable, with outdoor bathrooms which is nice. It’s like like you sleep in the jungle. I loved the meditation and healing rooms and also the hammocks that you can use whenever you want. Overall a great stay and I will certainly go back sometime.
