I have stayed at Alam Kita for almost two weeks for a retreat. And I couldn’t have had it any better.
The voyage to get there forced me to relax. A flight to Jakarta. A train which takes you trough Java in comfort for 5 hours. Then a car ride to Jepara for 2 hours. Then finally a boat trip of 2 hours (fast ferry) to get to Karimunjawa. So you’ve seen all lot of Indonesia in many ways before you have arrived.
And then you arrive in little paradise called Alam Kita. It’s virtually impossible not to find your peace there. Swinging in a hammock in the shade by the sea, yoga or meditation in the Pendopo, being creative in the Rumah Hati, getting a massage or just sitting on one of the many benches scattered around and enjoying the tranquility with a cold drink in your hand.
The warmth Margo and her team give was exactly what I needed and seamed endless.
Margo herself as caring mom figure with stories and wisdom. Wawan willing to help and share his outlook at any moment. Evi making delicious food with Hesti and Nanda. And Irvan and Rianne filling in all the gaps and securing you are serviced. Total hospitality.
And if animals are to your liking, then you have enough choice. Flyr the goat, Willi the dog, Ponki and Moppi the cats and every building there own gecko to serenade you at night. I had Roberto sounding his gecko-call to tell me he was still with me. And lots of birds, you hear monkeys, etcetera.
The bungalows are sited around the main building and on the hill above it. Lots of privacy. Your own adjacent outside private bathroom (which is great in this climate). A deck with chairs to look upon nature and the sea.
The best view of the sea you’ll get on the 110 meter long jetty. A magical spot to swim from and to look at your own private sunset.
The island Karimunjawa is relaxed. The are people friendly. No pressure and the island is luckily still fairly unexplored by main tourism.
I feel grateful that I had the chance to experience Alam Kita and all that came with it. It’s settled deep in my heart.
