Sunset Hill Penida Resort Kani Riot

Great value for money. The room at many amenities like kettle, music booth, fridge and hair dryer. The complex is nice with the pool area. The road to access it was redone so it’s completely ok by scooter.

The road leading to the hotel is new and easy to ride, unlike other reviews ive seen on here. The pool is lovely and the staff are very accommodating, especially Jim at reception and the ladies who cleaned our room everyday. The sounds people complain about are the sounds of nature, not people or traffic and I found it very peaceful. Loved staying here.

Overall opinion:
We liked our stay here. We stayed a couple of nights. In our opinion decent value for the money. Nothing special, but would come again.
Pro’s.
Room/homestay looked they same as in the pictures. We were in a room with a balcony with seaside view (which was cool) last bit of the road to the hotel looks beaten but when you get there its nice. Nice garden en walking paths. Cows roaming the nature close by. The nature in the direct 10 meters surrounding the hotel looks less pretty but after that pretty palm trees etc.
We haven't had much contact with the staff but they seemed nice. When we arrived good briefing about the facility’s etc. They have a restaurant (we haven't eaten there so don't know if its good). Also a pool table present.
Nice swimming pool, clean. Not too deep though. Good seats/beanbags to chill.
Rack present for wet clothes etc. You can also hang them on the balcony.
Hair dryer present.
Bed was really comfy and clean. Good pillows, nice blanked. Best bed so far for us on penida. There is a (partially broken) mosquito net but we did not need it. Had no flies in the room.
Free water refill at the reception desk.
There is a little bluetooth speaker in the room. Nice touch. Also hot water maker.
No closet present but you do get a little table for your stuff.
Air conditioning worked very good. Its a wooden cabin so it takes a little while to get cool. Unit also didn't make that much noise.
Bathroom had soap/shampoo present. Water pressure was good.

I recently stayed at what I can only describe as the worst hotel experience I've had in Nusa Penida. The issues began with cleanliness of my room, with noticeable dirt and fungus. The doors didn’t lock properly, raising serious safety concerns, especially for women traveling alone.
It was also clear that the hotel staff had little regard for guest comfort or safety. When I raised concerns, their response was unprofessional and abusive. Not only did they use offensive language, but they also seemed to instigate fights rather than address complaints.
For Indian travelers, we experienced racism.
Which is unacceptable.
There were additional problems, such as the presence of worms and lizards in the room, creating an unsettling environment. To make matters worse, the water quality was low and the hotel didn’t offer any food, with no nearby restaurants within a 2.3-kilometer radius.
Further the positive reviews on various platforms seem suspiciously written by the hotel itself, which raises doubts about their authenticity.
I strongly advise against staying here.

In response to the owner's reply, I would like to clarify that my stay was with my spouse only, and we were not part of any group. I'm unsure what they are referring to or if they are using a bot system to reply as I see the owner adding the same response to everyone.

We stayed here for 3 nights and at first was happy with the room and facilities. After 2 nights me and my partner became extremely sick, high fever, shakes, persistent coughing, vomiting and feeling very weak. We discovered this was due to the large amount of black mould we ingested from the air con machine. Absolutely disgusting and we’re really paying the price for it. We have now left and are both extremely ill on the verge of attending hospital. When raising this huge health and safety concern to the staff they said nothing and just took a photo of what I had written down in the translator app. No apology, remorse or decency and again absolutely disgusting behaviour. Would advise anyone to avoid this place in the chances you get b2 the dreaded room we stayed in. We will also be contacting Airbnb about this. Luckily me and my partner are young and fit and are hoping to bounce back after a few days but if you were elderly or suffered with any other health conditions specifically respiratory this could easily hospitalise you. Stay safe and avoid this place! Photos attached below, there was also mould on the fabric hanging above the bed and actually inside the ac machine. Disgusting!

First things first: The rooms and the scenery was amazing. But!. Sadly the service was horrible. They rented us a scooter that was falling apart not even giving us helmets we had to ask for helmets and then they just took it from another motorbike … In the evening nobody is there anymore and on the day we had to leave they tried to overcharge us with a pricey taxi so we had to rush to the port to catch our ferry. On top of that we ordered food and after 30 minutes of waiting someone came to confirm our order and it was completely wrong. Btw we were the only ones in the restaurant. We ended up canceling the food.
But the rooms were good. Yet it’s a bit far away and the taxis are way to overpriced. So rent a scooter or have a long walk.

One of the worst properties you can book in Penida.
The approach road is a horrible incline with more potholes than the amount of road.
The rooms are small and cramped.
The whole property is managed by a bunch of kids who don't understand English apart from sorry and thank you.
No proper hot water here, they don't seem to ask for cleaning the room ever, no fresh towels daily. The bathroom has algae and the toilet has its own issues.
Renting a bike from this place is horrible and getting a taxi to this hotel is a menial task.
Would not recommend this hotel at all.

Honest Review!
The location, view and aesthetics are very good value for the money. It is also away from the loud noisy areas. That is why we booked it. However, there are certain weird things due to which I won't recommend it.
1. The 300m approach road to the resort is an absolute nightmare. Our scooty skid and my wife fell down. This isn't a mud road. It is a very narrow broken tar road with sharp turns and slopes.
2. The rooms are infested with ants and they crawl up inside everything including the backpacks. We had to throw lots of our packed foods and chocolates.
3. The cleaning boys don't understand a single word in English or any kind of body language. N they clean room only after checkout. We kept used plates and cups outside the room but they didn't clean it for two days even though it was clearly visible to them.
4. There is no staff in the hotel from 8pm to 6am. Though they mentioned it clearly at check-in time but this can't be acceptable. Even the kitchen is closed after 8pm.
5. They have a very nice swimming pool. But strangely they forgot to maintain smooth edges and surfaces. The rough cement can scratch the body if a person is not careful.
Hope this review helps the resort owners to improve the services.

Dont be fooled by the rating here. Almost of them are disingenuous reviews from differents accounts but with almost the same quotes and reviews. I stayed here for 3 nights, expect constant noise, as it goes with wooded bungalows. Unlucky of you get groundfloor bedroom of two storey bungalow, footstep and every movement from guests above can be heard and felt. Nice view to the strait and bali mainland acroos the water. Pool are disgustingly cloudy and seems not clean. Very very limited choice of food and eveything is just prepared minimally. Some cute quiet dogs are around. Most of the staff barely speaks and understand english, non locals are constanly using goo. Translate. Isolated location with rough road getting into the property. My room have disfunctioning lock, and the model of the room lock is so not user friendly and didnt adequately locked the room. Aircon worked well. TV didnt work.

Beautiful setting, clean, friendly staff. Banana pancakes were good for breakfast. One day I did get a massive bug in my coffee which put me off a little. The pool is really nice. Homestay Organised trips for me and a driver to collect from evening restaurant etc… which was so helpful. There is a really cute dog that comes around. The walk to main road with shops restaurant is about 15mins which I found OK but traffic is a bit nuts.
Bed so comfy. Had great sleeps.

So great family who runs this place. They are helpful with everything and always with a smile. The rooms are big and clean. Bed is so comfy and with mosquitonets. Bathroom is open and you can see the sky You can choose between a lot of good food for breakfast and everthing is delicious.
Beautiful garden with a wonderful view over palmtrees and the ocean. The sunset is marvelous.
Really recommend Sunset hill You will live it as much as we did. Stayed here for six nights.
