The English resort, built along the hillside, trod on a noisy wooden floor, with thick historical traces, to bring you back to the past; a good choice for Darjeeling vacation;

If I choose 3* I automatically have to have “It was OK”. This actually highlights their problem of thinking they know what they’re doing.
This is a delightful property (and seemed, when we were so disappointed, the only place worth staying in when in Darjeeling).
The staff try very hard to remember guests names. More basic service was rather wanting.
Not preparing our attic room was a strange oversight. I was in a group of 22. Some of our group were in lower floor rooms; it wasn’t a problem for us to climb the stairs to the attic and we were happy to do so.
But nothing in the room worked. The kettle was provided and the plug wouldn’t fit into any socket.
There was no hot water. We needed to know to switch on the water heater in the bathroom and wait “for five minutes”. It was still icy cold 40 minutes later. This wasn’t a late booking so why wasn’t the heater on before our arrival?
Darjeeling is so short of water but we, and other guests in our group, were told to run the water until the hot water came through. It took a heck of a time for it to come through even for those who had their hot water on. Quite ludicrous.
The second / third time house keeping was called and with our little fan heater they provided on one of their visits plugged in (Feb nights are cold), we noticed the completely unprepared / stocked bathroom had a missing window pane.
So we called the manager and asked for a new room, the last available one.

Had an amazing dinner! The evening was filled with some fine food with some excellent live music. The staff were courteous and the atmosphere was spot on. If you want to treat yourself, you can't go wrong with the Elgin.

Amazing staff excellent hospitality. One of the best experiences I had. The only thing is that they need to up their standards in cleaning the room. They conveniently left the dirt under the beds.

I loved staying here. The decor is so charming and comfortable, and the service is top notch without being overbearing. Rooms were clean and well furnished, though I think the bathrooms could use an update (still clean and functional, though). Our room had a view of the hillside, but note that the Elgin does not have a view of Kanchenjunga if that's what you're looking for. Breakfast and dinner were consistently delicious with lots of choices. Someone in our party is vegan, and the wait staff were very patient and went through the whole menu with him telling him what was ok to eat. I think they even put in a request to the kitchen to make something specially for him. One issue we had was the call to prayer from the nearby Mosque waking us up at 5 am. Other than that, this hotel is great! We would stay here again, and I would recommend the Elgin to a friend.

A heritage property located at the heart of the town… Formerly the summer palace of the Maharaja of Coochbehar, this 130yrs old property maintains the old world colonial charm of the 19th century… Buffet breakfast and dinner were delicious, and the hotel staffs were extremely friendly… Rooms are cozy, but there had an issue regarding the hot water, though it was quickly resolved by the staffs… Overall a comfortable stay… would love to come back again…

It is very nice to be in there it is located in near allis villa so any one can easily found.

We stayed with kids for 2 nights. We were well greeted and checkin process was smooth. Great place for kids and amazing location and views. Rooms were clean and tidy. Staff were polite and cheerful. Food was great though it gets crowded during peak times.

Beautiful quaint place in the heart of the city, but you can totally escape the madness inside this hotel! The staff is so polite and affectionate, they'll totally adapt to your needs. Rooms appear expensive but he perks make it worth the while.

I didnt like this hotel at all because no proper food and no proper services no hot water and light goes most of the time charging double for dinner + "bakwaas" Hotel and Location NO VIEW at all, "Badtamiz" Staff total WASTE OF MONEY!

One of the best hotels in darjeeling and also the oldest property here. Being a british era estate the rooms lobby dinning arrea etc has a colonial feel to it. The food and Services were very good. The only drawback is that you dont get any room which has kanchenjunga view.

Heritage and Beautiful colonial style hotel with all modern amenities. Good choice for British citizens. Cafe area is the best part of hotel consist of various types of board games!

Hospitality & Best Heritage Experience in Darjeeling…

Class and heritage filled hotel, decorated beautifully for Xmas and New year, we got the third floor room, antique as it looked with all features including sofa and a nice wardrobe space, food was excellent with finest selected items and made to perfection, we were only upset due to a misunderstanding, our room was not cleaned and arranged back with bathroom amenities not put back, the reason they required our key and they should be informed if we wish to clean, altogether a great peaceful, the ambience in reading and bar room was outstanding, the orchid restaurant had some fine piano played live which gave extreme pleasure.

I could not write a better review of a place if I tried. I loved being there. It has old-world charm and pretty fine accommodation, delicious food and impeccable service.

Sometime we don’t have word in dictionary to describe our feeling…. Lets come and experience what I mean to say….

A boutique hotel that makes your stay commendable and King like.

Good 19th century hotel, food is great and staffs are very good.

Had the worst holiday of my life here. The restaurant staff was very rude and arrogant, so was the F&B manager. They were very reluctant to serve us food. There was a fly in the welcome drink. There were flies in the room. The bath tub was filthy, the corridors were blocked by mattresses. The bed sheets were torn and soiled. The towels were smelling bad. They do not serve lunch unless you have pre-informed them. By no standards is this a 5 star property, would be close to a 2 star Guest House. They are just basking in their earlier glory of being hosts to some important people, but now they are horribly lacking on manners, courtesy and guest relations. Would NEVER recommend this resort to anyone.

The Elgin Darjeeling was a delight to stay in, this is a fantastic royal manor house, the property is immaculately maintained and the staff are excellent and very attentive, we loved the various lounge and sitting areas of the property where the family could sit read and have a cup of darjeeling tea at leisure. Highly recommended.

Excellent Dinner Buffet spread with candle lit table and live music on the piano! A must visit! Great service and smiling staff in colonial turbaned uniforms! Absolutely loved it! A must visit! They also take orders a day in advance if you want t a menu of your choice!
