Grilled lamb delicious… one of the best I've tasted!

Nice restaurant, grilled lamb is nice.
Cottage is clean & quiet. Only down side there is no proper walk path & no much lights.

Fantastic location, friendly staff, and great evening meals.

Amazing views, delicious food, clean, hospitable, top notch service, what more could you ask for?

Cute, clea and cozy cottages! Receptionist was by far the most hospitable person we’ve dealt with on the whole trip so far. Didn’t have dinner but desert was fantastic.

My boyfriend and I were in Iceland for 9 nights, and spent one at Hunkubakkar. It was a bit of a splurge (relative to our other booked stays) but the pictures looked lovely, and reviews were great. At check-in the front desk rushed us through, but we brushed it off as they were also helping with the restaurant. They did not offer to charge us in USD, but instead said we could only pay by euro or krona —just an interesting note as this is the only place where I wasn’t give a …USD option. (Not a big deal! ) We arrived to our room and found napkins and utensils from Pret a Manger. Not the worst thing to find, but made us question the cleanliness. The room was fairly lackluster for how much we spent ($138 USD, compared to our overall average of about $105), but again… not a bit deal. The proximity to Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon kind of made it worth it, what a stunning place! What really pushed me to write an unsavory review was the woman attending the breakfast. The breakfast was DELICIOUS. Fresh bread, salty icelandic butter, and seriously caffeinated coffee. I loaded up on a bunch of bread one round (too much) … so I removed some from my plate in a napkin and left it at the table so I could reuse the plate to stock up on more food. While loading my plate with tomato and cucumber the aforementioned woman said something that I couldn’t understand. I clearly remember smiling and asking her to repeat what she had said.

We came here just for dinner, wonderful place, accommodating hosts. Heard about the delicious fresh lamb and for me. I am really sensitive to the gaminess after a bad experience in China and wow this was so refreshingly delicious! Same with the potato fish stew and the layered cake. We spent about 7500isk.

Nice wooden chalets. Minimal, but very warm duvets and comfortable beds. Evening meal very tasty. Lovely views too.

This place was so worth the stay! the cabins were very cute and cozy, and the dinner at the restaurant was one of the best meals I had on my whole trip. They served a lamb steak fresh from their farm and it was absolute perfection. The asparagus soup was so delicious. All in all we were so happy with our experience. The staff was very nice too. I would come back again!

This guesthouse was perfect for my wife and I! The staff were friendly and both the cottages and main house were warm, clean and cozy (visited in mid February). Please have the breakfast and dinner (lamb)! I would recommend this stay to anyone. Thanks again to Hunkubakkar for the experience!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. But inside close to the residential caravans everything is small. Parking near the room for sure.

Nice wooden feel separate room. The restaurant for dinner is good. Breakfast is a little less food varieties. Brat location to the canyon but now it is closed.

Very nice woden houses. Left great experience for my friends from Russia. Said the price was really good compared to other places near Kirkjubaejarklaustur. And its closest hotel righy to the one of Icelands pearls Fjaðrárgljúfur.

Sweet little wooden houses equipped with bed, table, chairs and a small kitchenette. Breakfast was good.

Nice and cozy cabins. Friendly staff and nice surroundings. Nothing to complain about. We booked the same evening and everything went smooth. Can definitely recommend this place foe accommodation.

Comfortable accommodations in a beautiful setting. Staff was friendly and restaurant amazing. We even saw the Northern Lights!

We spent one night at this place. It was our most expensive place we stayed at during our 10 day trip through Iceland. The rooms are in small huts. Two rooms share one bathroom. The concept is interesting and cute. The rooms were clean and nicely kept. We enjoyed this unique experience. The breakfast was simple but very good. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The canyon close by is definitely worth a visit.

Really happy to sleep in this place. Cosy, clean and warm. The restaurant food is good and the staff is very nice. Recommend it for sure!

All OK. The boiler above the shower takes getting used to, but the suspension holds. Nearby there is a gorge where you can hike theoretically, depending on the water level. The small cottages in which one is housed are slightly apart, but always 2 parties per house.

After a more than pompous reception, where we were asked to reserve a table for dinner even as the room was empty, we took some time to find our room which we had scarcely been indicated while it was dark.
The walls were thin as paper, you could hear the slightest movements of our neighbors. The beds were only fine over mattresses placed on spring springs.
There was no heating before we entered the room, in the middle of October, at night, as much to say it was frozen.
In the bathroom, a sign said that the hot water was limited to 15min per room. We had never seen this, even in places in Iceland far more remote! And it would have been in good tone that the man who greeted us warns of this rather than show us the pictures of a book about the region…
A real disappointment (the only one we had in Iceland)

Chalet of Spartan Comfort. Walls barely thicker than your phone. The beds did not have mattresses but were simple over-mattresses placed on the base…
A placard in the bathroom explains that if people take showers too long there will be no more hot water. This is the first time I am rationed in a hotel and especially that it depends on the behavior of other hosts.
Reception very ceremonial, laughable considering what is mentioned above. We are told for example that it is essential to book while the restaurant room is empty…
Only two hotels have disappointed us in Iceland. Hunkubakkar is one of them.

This guesthouse is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! We stayed at Hunkubakkar Guesthouse in October and we loved the place! The rooms are conformable and very cozy. Also, the food in the restaurant is… oh… AMAZING! I would recommend anyone who needs to stay in the area to book a room at this great place. You will want to stay forever!

Very nice place to stay. Small and cosy room, nice view and surrounding. It is very near to the canyon fjadrargljufur (2km away). The breakfast is nice. Its best if they have egg as main protein for the breakfast. The staffs are friendly, overall its a good place to stay.

Amazing location and romantic cabin get away! Had a wonderful time.

It is a small place with few houses on the other-faith guests, but very comfortable, and two km away is a beautiful cliff called Fjaðrárgljúfur is very much worth knowing!

Very nice place to stay one or two days. They have double and three-bedded rooms only. The rooms are actually little houses having their own bathroom. The staff is very friendly and will serve you with tasty food and drinks.

Can't say I really enjoyed my time here. The dinner prices were very expansive compared to just overpaying in town. There is an inherent design flaw in the building, there are ceiling-level windows that do not have any way to block out the never-setting summer sun. And no, they do not sell, provide or loan sleep masks. Also the toilet seat was partially broken, one of its buttons was missing and there were other signs of half-hearted repair. When my Wife and I arrived the room we had was very musty, even after we opened the window and came back after dinner. There was also a dead mayfly on the floor upon our arrival. On a positive note, they did have these really cute miniature houses by the front houses.

What a lovely place to stay! Very charming and cosy little cabins. Nice and friendly staff. And they have a great restaurant as well! Taste the grilled lamb from their farm – it was the best lamb steak I've ever eaten!

Very nice little haven of peace in the middle of nowhere: wooden sheds too cute with all the comfort and welcome of the guests neat! It's perfect! ❤️

Loved this place. Friendly people, out of this world cuisine and a cabin that was warm, tidy, and comfortable. I hope to come this way again! If you find yourself here in spring, ask to see the baby lambs. So adorable — saw two that were just hours old!

We stayed in a log cabin of two rooms with a shared bathroom, the room was quite small, had a table with two chairs, a kettle and a sink. The shared bathroom had an electric hot water heater for the hot water (which we were quite surprised in Iceland), as indicated in a poster hanging in the bathroom, that lasted about 15 minutes. 15 minutes of hot water for two rooms in the winter in Iceland… The accommodation has a restaurant, in the vicinity there is not much more to eat. The breakfast very complete, the thing that we enjoyed was the fresh bread and strawberry jam, homemade (with big chunks), had teas, juices, cocoa, coffee, sausages, cereals, biscuits, yogurt… Very close to the Guesthouse there is a canyon impressive, so we told the guy on reception "the greatest of Iceland", if we would not have stayed here we would not have visited and it was a pleasant surprise.

Bed & Breakfast very elegant, formed by several cottages. Has No kitchen but the rooms are very clean and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Just 2 km there is a canyon that is well worth.

Very nice small wooden houses, the staff is very friendly and the grilled lamb is a bomb! So far, the most beautiful accommodation on our tour. Really recommended!

Lovely cottage, many attractions in the area such as Jokulsarlon, Skaftefall NP, Lakigigar and the amazing canyon is almost in de garden! Good homecooked meal in the restaurant. Great owners and we even got invited to see the lambs before to go out to the mountains. We will be back one day and go see lakigigar. Also for a good few go into town park the car near the forrest and there is a path going up. Keep it up!

This was almost the most beautiful place on our island trip. Nice little wooden cottages. The young lady at the front desk was very nice. The dinner, for us vegetarian, was top. Simple but very well prepared. Regional ingredients and freshly prepared. All in all I can recommend the guesthouse.
