Old Cottage - Reynivellir II

We had only one night but it was a very nice cottage with more than enough room for a family of 5. Nice waterfalls in behind and very short drive to many great sights.

Rooms are way over priced and not comfortable to be in (i. E. Small, no racks, etc. ) We booked the old cottage but got rooms in the crappy farm house. Shared bathrooms were dirty and barely functional. They were not accommodating to our late check in, despite calling them in advance. They failed to give us the information needed to access our rooms. Cleaning staff were friendly.

This accommodation is VERY overpriced and overrated. I paid 200 Swiss francs (~250 USD) for an extremely small room with a (smelly) shared bathroom. To make things worse, we called them in advance to let them know we needed late check in due to travel, and they said they would provide us with information on how to check in. They forgot to do so however and when we arrived, we had to wait over an hour and half to check in. We finally accessed our room at 3 am. They were kind enough however to honour our request for late check out.

We stayed at the farm house. Totally not worth the money. The room was very small and there was absolutely no racks or anything on the wall where you could hang your clothes, towels or anything. Also there was only one tiny table and one socket in the room.
When we turned off the lights something started biting us. The room was full of small flying insects which bit us. We needed to have the lights on for the whole night since it seemed to distract them a bit.
Also, there isn’t too much sound insulation. There was supposed to be silence starting from 23 but people used the shower and kitchen until midnight.
Didn’t get too much sleep.
Kitchen was OK but the emergency exit was blocked with trash bins.

Great cottage, wish the top bunk bed area had curtains cause it was bright all night when we went.

I really wanted to like this place, I really did but the bad things simply out weighed the good.
Let me start with the good. Great location, descent amount of space for my family of 5, beautiful waterfall behind the building and the person who gave me access at the hotel was super nice.
But the issues we had really soured the experience. The place felt like it wasn’t being maintained well at all. Here are a few issues:
Broken window up stairs plus an supported board up stairs on the landing that if you put weight on it would have your foot hanging from the ceiling (in fact I got hurt stepping on it and was worried my son was going to break his ankle). Various broken items in the kitchen and a poorly equipped kitchen in general with no vent in the stove. The showers were horrible. Both had really inconsistent temperature control, and the one shower in the left room would not maintain any pressure whatsoever and was basically unusable while the other shower had really low water pressure. Plus the fire alarm was so sensitive that boiling water would set it off.
Now we did stay in unit one so maybe the other ones are better but it just seemed a little run down and need some tlc.
Plus it really irked me that I need to wash and put away my dishes or face a cleaning fee. Dont I already pay for that? That is my two bits on this one.

A bit fun with the construction, but works well enough for a night.

Stunning location! This was sunset. Room is clean, fresh and beautiful decorated. Shower is gorgeous and it’s hot and inviting after a cold day out.

Well equipped house with several bedrooms and shared kitchen, living room, toilets and showers. We had to register a few kilometers further down the road. Staff friendly there.
