Worst run hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The hostel reception closes at 9pm and opens again at 9am… apparently. We arrived at 11:30pm (the hostel knew this prior) and gave us instructions to first go to their sister hostel which was 10 min walk away. We went there and stood outside for 30 minutes trying to call the bell as per instructions (for some reason it wasn’t working) our phones didn’t work so we couldn’t call. Lucky enough some others staying at the hostel arrived to l…et us in. Once in the hostel staff member then had to walk us to the Absolute hostel which was fine… when we arrived everything seemed sweet he said pay tomorrow and il have to take your passport. We had a bus at 10 and we wanted to leave just after 9am which we told the guy, he said no problem someone would be there. Once we got to our room at around 12:30am our beds were not made, the room was full and we had to make both of our beds? Once we made our beds I found long dark hairs all over my sheets. We were given 2 sets of keys to enter the hostel that evening too, we went out to get food and when we got back the swipe to the front door wouldn’t work, we had to borrow someone’s phone to call the other hostel to find out why our key didn’t work. Turns out it’s a code you require for the front door not a key… The next morning there was no staff members available until 9:10am when the guy came running through the door for his shift.
We arrived late in the evening, around 11 40 pm, waited for quite a bit for a receptionist to open the main door. He turned up and requested my ID document as deposit until we will pay. They have requested a payment in local currency, so of course we did not had that at a time. So I had no choice but to leave my ID. Next day we went for a walk and cash out the money we owe to the hotel. It was around 2 pm when we came to the reception desk and they just simply told me that my ID was stolen. There was no call, nothing. Only when I arrived they informed me about that. They also decided not to call the police, as there was no money stolen, only 2 IDs. After arguing with them for an hour, they finally called the police. Of course police simply filled out the report and that's it. The receptionist promised that they will reimburs all the costs required to create new ID. Now 2 months have passed, guess what? Nothing. They did tho made me some discount on the stay (gosh, wow, amazing). I've been in Budapest for 4 days and had to spend 2 of them on solving this ID issues. Afterwards I had to go to my home country, even though it was not a plan of my journey and get that ID made. So spend another 2 days on issuing the ID. I had never heard any apologies from the owner, I've never got an answer from several emails I've sent. On top of that, booking promised to resolve this issue and in case owner will not do the reimbursement, they will do it on their behalf. Guess what?
