Monbijou Hotel

I am appalled and offended by the terrible customer service at Monbijou Hotel. I stayed for three nights on a business trip, and while the location is fantastic, everything else was a nightmare.
I booked a single bedroom since I was traveling alone, but when I arrived, the room was unbelievably tiny—so small that I couldn't even stretch my arms out fully. Feeling claustrophobic, I requested a room change, but the receptionist was unhelpful and informed me that I could only change rooms at an extra cost. Tired and frustrated, I agreed to pay for a larger room, only to find that the ventilator in the new room was not working, making it hot. So I went back to my old room at 12 and tried to sleep there.
The next morning, I spoke to the manager, explaining my discomfort and requesting a move to another room. They insisted I move my belongings immediately, but since I had already left for the office, it was impossible. After a lengthy and unfriendly interaction, the manager agreed to have the hotel staff move my belongings in my absence, which I appreciated.
However, my relief was short-lived. During checkout, I was charged extra for the night I stayed in the double room. I was surprised because I assumed the hotel would offer the room change as a goodwill gesture for one night. When I asked to speak to the manager, she approached me aggressively, showing me a photo of a chair in my old room with a minor iron mark I accidentally left.

The nearby Monbijou Park is a nice are to be in a big city like Berlin.
Hackelscher Markt around the corner offers food and public transport.
The breakfast is nice, the rooms are clean and neat.
I'll be back here if possible and I can just recommend it.

We stayed here for 2 nights for business but I liked the hotel so much I wanted to leave a review. On arrival at 22:00 we were greeted by Oscar who was very friendly and made us feel welcome. Our room faced onto the courtyard and was very quiet, the bed was nice and the curtains kept the room dark. The location is good for walking to Museum Island and is also well connected with trains so you can get to pretty much anywhere easily enough. Being close to the train station means that the trip to the airport is around €4.
The breakfast is not cheap but is one of the best buffets I have ever seen and can fill you up so you could skip lunch. I would recommend this breakfast for meat eaters and veggies. There's also lentils, grains and salad for vegans as well. There are many good restaurants in walking distance, we went to Cocodrillo (book ahead), and many good bars, we liked Hackbarths (bring cash). This hotel also has a good rooftop bar which is recommended in the guide book 500 Hidden Secrets Of Berlin. I hope this review is helpful to someone.

I stayed in a double room for a few days. I really wanted to love this hotel as it has a classy vibe but there were some cons. Friendly staff. Nice common lounge area and great dining space. But the room is small, basic, no noise insulation, bed could be more comfortable — you hear everything next door and the hallways. Standard hotel breakfast though not worth the 23euros. No sweet pastries. Tasty croissants though. Great location next to Hackermarkt station and 10 min walk to Alexanderplatz. Nice top terrace, would be great for summer. Given the cons, I'd try a different hotel next time.

A lovely, cosy hotel in a great location. Public transport near enough on the doorstep and Museum Island about 10 minutes walk. The surrounding area is quite nice to explore too, with plenty of shops and restaurants. I had a single comfort room, a good size, I could see the TV Tower and Berlin Dom from my window. Very comfortable bed, the German style double, with handy bedside tables on each side, a couple of little stools and a table at the foot of the bed. There was a hanging rail with hangers supplied and an area underneath that was just the right size for my suitcase to sit. There was also a safe, free of charge and the complimentary bottle of water waiting on arrival was a lovely touch. Very pleasant staff at reception. The rooms were cleaned daily and to a good standard. I did think the breakfast option was a wee bit overpriced, especially with such good cafes nearby, so I didn't bother. The bar area was very welcoming, with an open fire. I did go up to the roof terrace to enjoy the view, even if the bar up there wasn't open yet. I would definitely stay here again if I return to Berlin and would recommend to friends and family.

Family atmosphere… totally delicious breakfast… mega nice room… great views from the roof terrace. Cosy bar… as well as very nice staff. Everything within walking distance. Gladly again.

A super rooftop bar with an outstanding bartender — here you can only feel comfortable!

We had a great stay in the hotel. The room looked amazing, the bed was super comfy — we had the best sleep ever. The location of the hotel is central, it was very easy to visit the surroundings. We totally recommend it!

Super Hotel tip for Berlin — Mega Central location close to Alexanderplatz and Hackesche Höfe. Super Breakfast, extremely nice staff and great Bar! Gladly again and again!

Unfortunately, although the quality of the room is nice, I have to give this hotel a such a bad review due to customer service. I booked my room through Student Universe and used the actual hotel website to decide which room choice to pick based off the descriptions and pictures. I wanted two single (twin) beds for my sister and I for a night stay. I got a double room with one bed. I politely requested at the front desk that I get two single beds after I looked at my reservation and the website to confirm I selected the right room type. The heavyset male receptionist tried to blame me for the reason I did not have two twin beds and was rude and annoyed he had to change it. When I came back downstairs, I had the female desk receptionist who was more pleasant explain to me how I could've specified that I wanted a twin bed through the platform I used to book their hotel. After navigating the app, she also saw there was no way to specify the room choice or to differentiate the two types of double rooms in the app. Stating I booked the right type initially to get two single beds. Bottom line quality of the rooms are good, but the service is bad. Also, the rooms are really small. My sister and I had to step over our checked luggage bags to navigate our room. I don't know if it's because I'm Black, American, or both that I receive that type of customer service. I definitely would not recommend based off the customer service at the front desk.
