I spent a week at Footsteps at the end of November 2015 with a group of girl friends. I had little idea what to expect having never been to The Gambia before and knowing only a little about Footsteps. But I needn't had worried, it is the most wonderful, relaxing and memorable place. Tucked away within the woodland, it is the perfect place for a 'get away from it all' holiday, or a place to explore and experience The Gambia. The food was wonderful and the large round table meant all the guests ate together in the evening. This led to some highly enjoyable meals, much laughter (I haven't laughed so much for a long time), some great chat and an opportunity to get to know the other guests. The round huts are wonderful, each with an en-suite and the delightful drop toilet. It doesn't smell and you soon get use to it. Those who work at the Lodge really care about the guests and ensuring everyone has the holiday of their choice. The rooms are kept immaculately clean, as are the grounds. There are some hidden delights such as the bird hide, the fire pit where we had a memorable evening dancing to the local drummers and the beach which is about a 30 minute walk away, but well worth it, as you could be the only tourists in sight. I felt safe, well cared for and very happy at Footsteps. Downsides? If you are ladies on your own you do get men who like to walk with you and talk as you stroll to the beach.
