Excellent historic hotel. Loved the roaring fireplace in the dining room and the friendly service. Make sure to try the jams! Great for families and perfect for exploring the castle.

Absolutel gem. Quiet, spacious. Hosts were wonderful. French charm and beauty. Lovely breakfast with fresh breads, delicious coffee and homemade jam and more. They made us feel very welcome. Would definitely stay here again.

Interesting rooms. I think each one is individually designed. The breakfast is exceptional: no sausage but a variety of tasty jams. Very good hosts. Very well located. Ideal also for cyclists.

This was our first time to Chinon — the Hotel Diderot was the perfect spot for us. Quiet neighborhood just minutes to shops and restaurants. Truly fine dining at several of the eateries. Also lots of fun places to grab a sandwich and cold drink and “people watch. ” Our room had everything we needed and the entire hotel is a charmer. Breakfasts are tasty with fruit, yoghurt, breads, luscious jams and excellent coffee. And the outdoor terrace is a gem of a spot for wine or beer after a busy day hiking, shopping or exploring many of the area chateaux. Folks at the hotel were happy to give suggestions on things to do and see. Hubby went kayaking on the river and loved it! A wonderful stay. We highly recommend it.

Lovely hotel, warm and professional staff and owners. It's like staying in the country house you've always dreamed of, including a terrace and tables for having a glass of wine or an afternoon tea. Prefer a room in the main building to the annex — on the same property but of more recent construction. The Diderot corresponds to my idea of a, welcoming and peaceful haven: an authentic taste of an authentic France.

Nice countryside hotel. Its owned and runned by a couple. The lady is super nice and makers 1000 jams for breakfast. Amazing and must try. Her husband on the other hand, super unfriendly and just not nice. Why run a hotel if you are like that?. Left that place bit confused with the whole experience. Wont be going back there.

Charming, historic property with helpful and endearing owners. Splendid continental breakfast with a plethora of house made jams (our favorite was tutti-fruity). Our room was spacious, quiet, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Because it's an historic building the owners chose to offer high tech fans rather than alter the building for a/c, which worked well. Staff helped us with restaurant and touring info. Great base for Loire Valley explorations (small car park and nearby free parking). Chinon itself is a fascinating village. Beautiful setting. One of our favorite hotels of all time.

Picture book the hotel for a historical Night. Very nice room, in the you feel after a nice reception. Only the Breakfast with excellent pastries, but bothered ONLY jam. Does not have to be equal to meat, a small cheese selection for the non-süssaffine group were to be BUT is not required to be a lot of.

A lovely historic hotel in the charming town of Chinon. The rooms are large and comfortable overlooking the courtyard. They serve a wonderful breakfast featuring local vendors. We'd love to return for a longer stay next time.

Wonderful hotel, quiet and lovely. 1 minute from the center of the city of Chinon, and central to the Loire Valley!

We first stayed at the Hôtel Diderot on a Rick Steve's tour and enjoyed and appreciated the hosts, the ambiance, and the location. The next year we were again in France on a different tour that did not include the Loire but we liked Chinon and the only place we wanted to stay was at the Diderot. Jamie was very accommodating in working out our stay as there was an event in town and rooms were at a premium. We, again, had a delightful stay. The Diderot is well appointed in a lovely rustic French style. The rooms we where we have stayed have all the modern amenities and were very comfortable. The breakfast is very nice, featuring homemade jams, local products and I believe what you would expect of a French breakfast. It was both sufficient and very tasty. I get up early and loved to go out on the vine covered veranda and enjoy my morning coffee. It was also a great place in the evening to enjoy a glass or two of the wonderful wine from the Loire region. There are ample places to go for dinner within easy walking distance and Chinon itself has lots to explore and a great place to relax. I hope we can return and I would be disappointed if we could not stay at the Hôtel Diderot.

Comfortable quiet rooms in charming little Chinon, with an exceptional array of jams at breakfast. The shower was surprisingly large. No air conditioning but the room was adequately ventilated for comfort at night.

Two not in the center of Chinon, in the street quiet, good address for the evening.

Stayed in this lovely place about 7 years ago. The room was spacious with gorgeous wallpaper. The best part that I remembered most was the many jars of delicious home-made jams they served for breakfast, very lovely experience.

Great place in Chinon to stay.

We had a lovely three days staying at Hotel Diderot. The welcome was very warm and food excellent.

Returned to the hotel 5 years after our initial very successful visit; what had changed? Perhaps the bar was open later and the room had been redecorated. What had not changed was the wonderful family feel of the hotel and the sense of welcome that was extended to us to say nothing of its marvellous proximity to the town the castle and the market in the main square. A great pity we were only able to stay for two nights.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Diderot this past December to celebrate the new year; my sister and my cousin and her husband met us in Chinon and stayed at the Hotel Diderot as well. The Dutheil family – Laurent, Martine and Francoise – are generous hosts who make a stay at the Hotel Diderot warm, comfortable and friendly. The hotel itself is located within a 15 minute walk of anywhere in Chinon and is a beautiful 18th century French renaissance building, evoking a stay in a large family home; the Hotel Diderot is no impersonal, cookie-cutter chain hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable (with new flat screen TV’s and free Wi-Fi) and non-smoking and the breakfast room is warmed by a wood burning fireplace and replete with fresh baguettes, brioche, croissants, fruit, yogurt, goat cheese and Laurent’s deservedly famous weird, wonderful and delicious home-made jams. But beyond the hotel’s charms and the tasty breakfasts are the hosts themselves. Laurent, Martine and Francoise (and the boss, Boubi, the orange cat) are warm, friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to make sure your needs are met, whether it’s an extra pillow, a restaurant suggestion or reservation, recommendations about the best chateaux or sites to visit, the best wines of the area or a word to be translated. The Hotel Diderot is our home away from home in the Loire and we will be back.
