In a beautiful little village. Very good for hiking and a short break. Accessible by very good public transport.
The menu is quite short and there are no specials on offer. The restaurant closes on certain days, check the restaurant will be open during your stay.
Great swimming pool.

The hotel is meticulously decorated with a charming ambiance, excellent dining, and a lovely terrace. Unfortunately, my room was directly across from a bar that plays loud music until 2 a. M. This was especially disappointing as I had specifically requested a quiet room upon arrival. It felt rather careless, and based on the glowing reviews, I couldn’t help but feel like I was given the worst room in the hotel.
The bed was unusually low, missing about a foot in height to look or feel normal, and the mattress was incredibly hard. It was, by far, the worst night’s sleep I’ve had in a hotel in a long time.
Based on my experience, I wouldn’t say this hotel treats solo travelers particularly well. They even removed the extra pillows I wasn’t using from the bed, which felt more comical than considerate.

We stayed here on our hiking journey to San Sebastián as part of a pre booked walking holiday with Inn-travel. Bags of character in the hotel, dinner was absolutely incredible (the trout was beautiful) and service excellent. Very impressed and highly recommend!

This place is a jewel: beautiful, clean, relaxing, excellent service and food, in an idyllic setting. The hotel was very tastefully updated to today’s standards, the rooms are extremely comfortable, the bathrooms luxurious. In a charming town, with hiking right outside the door, and beaches 20 minutes away. It’s perfect.

Right in the middle of the village. Very friendly and helpful. Great food and accommodated vegetarian menu for us. Unfortunately, our tour operator had booked us on the night of the village fair — this is more akin to a rave going on until 4 am with after party going on till breakfast. The manager had warned the tour company so not their fault.

This is a superb hotel, set in a wonderfully scenic and active corner of France. The service, attention to detail and thoughtfulness are all world class. We had room 29 overlooking the square which, when we were shown in, brought a tear to my wife's eye — excellent modern facilities in an ancient setting. The rooms overlooking the pool are quieter and some have balconies. The pool itself was a godsend on hot days. Sare is criss-crossed with great walking routes and has some excellent eateries, the best of which is the hotel itself. Eat on the terrace! Many, many thanks.

After a frankly horrible day on the GR10 in the pouring rain, my partner and I couldn't bear the idea of sleeping in a tent so on the decent into Sare, we tried phoning around some hotels to see if any rooms were available for the night. Most we're fully booked — likely due to the rain — but Hotel Arraya were happy to welcome us and offered us a very reasonable last minute price.
When we walked into the hotel, dripping with rain and cover in mud, the owner very kindly upgraded us to one of their more luxurious rooms overlooking the village square. They even took our boots to dry for our onwards journey the next day. After a really good night's sleep, we headed down for breakfast and we're treated to some local delicacies which were delightful.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the Hotel Arraya didn't disappoint and very much exceeded our expectations. The owners clearly understand hospitality and it shows — kudos to them!
This is definitely the type of place which I would go out of my way to stay at again, especially as we didn't get a chance to sample their restaurant. We have already recommended the hotel to friends and family and we will 100% be returning in the near future. 5* all day long :)

Fantastic hotel, great location, great pool, lovely restaurant and the owners and staff were so welcoming. This is our second visit which was delayed due to Covid. We will be back. The hotel cat should also get a special mention, he is truly lovely.
We had a very relaxing and peaceful stay.

We stayed here with our 2 kids (ages 11 & 8) and we all completely loved it. Hotel Arraya is beautiful, charming, and lovely. Our room overlooked the back garden & pool, and had a perfect & quiet nook for our kids to sleep. The dinner and breakfast were superb. The hospitality of the staff was fantastic. Our kids loved the pool, watching the horses over the back fence, and petting the cat. We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to come again soon!

We visited Sare in October for our sons wedding.
The hotel is exceptional with lots of history and parts being over 400 years old.
The rooms are very well appointed and high end products included.
The service provided by the owners and their team was definitely 5 star and we will hopefully return very soon.

We didn’t stay at the Hotel but instead dined at the restaurant. It was amazing, Michelin quality and a lovely setting. A must visit when in sare.

We had a lovely room with a balcony facing the village square, although having no air con in the room made it impossible to sleep at night. Apparently, some of the rooms have air con so ensure you ask for one. The room was decorated in medieval style with authentic period style furniture. The hotel itself is housed in several converted buildings, some of which go 400 years back, according to the receptionist, and the hotel building itself is pretty much a maze of corridors — really special. Our room also had a fantastic bathroom with complimentary toiletries (including body lotion which seems to be a rarity in France). The icing on the cake was the swimming pool in the garden — small but perfect for chilling on a hot day. The hotel also provides bath robes and pool towels, adding that little touch of luxury. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, which seems to be quite popular with the locals too. The food was delicious and the service was great, although towards the end of the evening the staff looked swept off their feet as it got really busy. The restaurant and the hotel staff were pretty busy yet made us feel welcome and looked after during our stay. There's also a fantastic gift shop attached to the hotel and the place itself is perfectly located in the very heart of Sare, which we thought deserves the title of the prettiest village in Basque — move over Ainhoa.

A beautiful hotel in the centre of Sare. Fantastic attention to detail with a personal and friendly attentive touch from the owners and staff. Nothing too much trouble and even prepared a special menu to provide for our preferences. With the benefit of being set in a lovely area I look forward to staying at the Arraya Hotel again.

Great hospitality, great location, great atmosphere and food. We really enjoyed our stay and our meal. We will definitely stay there again if we are ever in the area again. The hotel and restaurant are top notch and the people who work there are professional and charming.

Great service, good room with a big bed and a bath. The hotel is an old house, probably typical from the region which gives it charm. The breakfast was great too and varied, the village beautiful with some little shops (bakery, pharmacy, coffee place, restaurants etc). The surroundings are beautiful too.

My wife and I were part of a group which stayed in this charming small hotel with warm hosts and an inventive chef who prepared a delicious meal for our last night. Our room was spacious, with original beams, shuttered windows and balcony combined with modern bathroom fixtures. We will return!
