Malecon Guesthouse

I had an amazing stay at this hostel! The owner personally showed me around the city and even helped me get my phone fixed. The service here is the best I’ve ever experienced, and I’d highly recommend this place to anyone.

We had a fantastic short stay at this hostel. Kaj was extremely helpful in getting us situated in Ecuador after travelling from Peru. He helped us get money out, find a sim for a good price and gave us so many recommendations for our trip up the Ecuador cost. Our room was clean, quiet and had two fans for us to use. Would recommend staying here for an affordable and comfortable stay. Also the location was fantastic, we didn’t have time to explore, but everything you’d want to see in Guayaquil was walking distance or a short drive away.

I actually have no idea how this place has good reviews.
The rooms are cement sweat boxes with no air conditioning, windows, or air flow. It was at least 5C hotter inside than outside.
When I arrived I had to wait about 15 minutes to be let in and only because I ended up calling the owner. This ended up being a repetitive thing, he wouldn't answer the door bell or texts, would only come down if you called him.
When I arrived he pointed at the room and then threw linen at me to make my own bed. There were bits all over the bed and it did not feel clean at all. I've never in all my years of travel been expected to make my own bed on arrival. This wasn't a last minute booking either, I'd booked about two weeks in advance.
The owner refused to give me a key, which means I couldn't go in or out without finding someone to let me pass, this was a nightmare. Normally I am in the gym by 530am so clearly was an issue.
There is no kitchen, lounge, or hang out area.
There are only two lockers for a dorm of 6.
The rooms and beds do not look like the pictures at all.
The only good thing about this place is the location is opposite the malecón.

Excellent place to stay with 24/7 electricity and internet, something hard to find at an affordable price in Guayaquil.
Kaj, the owner is lovely and goes above and beyond to ensure his guests feel comfortable and welcome. He is more than happy to share insights into the city, and to provide whatever help and company one might want.
The place is large, many rooms to choose from, and is in the most ideal location on the Malecon 2000, just beside Las Penas.

Excellent hostel! The owner Kaj is awsome; he gives us so many insights about the city! The rooms are huge and clean. We stayed in the dormitory but we saw the other rooms and they look super nice too. The hotel is perfectly located. 100% recommended.
