Milling Hotel Ansgar

I booked rather late to stay for an event in Odense, so many hotels were already full. I only stayed one night and didn't have much time, so I wanted to stay near the railway station.
The location was the biggest advantage of this hotel; you can't get much more central. The style of the hotel is traditional, and in a way quite nice.
I asked for a quiet room and got one upstairs. I think the window didn't close properly, so it was a bit cold in the night and I heard some noise from outside.
My room was rather small, which was not a problem. The bathroom had been renovated, but still it was not very practical. The shower was almost next to the door, and the whole bathroom become wet, and they didn't even provide a towel for drying the feet.
The breakfast was rather average. Enough food but nothing special.

The good part is the cleaning of the room; the bathroom really shines, with great care and consideration put into it, In addition, some of the staff is really forthcoming. You may get a complimentary cup of tea, coffee or chocolate near the reception, 24x7, and the reception offers often sought after stuff such as toothbrushes, deodorants etc. Reasonably priced in a self-service fashion. Breakfast is not overwhelming, but quite all right. Want the room cleaned? Place the symbolic dust tray outside the room as a signal to the cleaners; if not, the room will stay as it is, often clean enough and certainly more environmentally sustainable (and profitable for the hotel, of course).
The location is very central; with the main railroad station just 5 minutes away, and the tram ("Letbane") which is a supermodern variant of the traditional electric tram, where you flick a switch on an app (DSB. DK) to pay once you enter the tram, and turn it off when exiting, not ordering anything before you need it, and a new tram coming every 7 minutes (daytime) and obviously a bit more seldom at night.
Improvement points include the hotel itself; with some rooms at the top floors with plates in the ceiling with what is reminiscent of water damage; I would suggest renovation of these. See picture examples below, and judge for your self.
Lightning on the rooms could be improved, as well.

I didn't choose this hotel. I had to stay there because Hotel Odeon, which I had booked initially, let me down and didn't check me in (by the way, I recommend avoiding Hotel Odeon by all means if you don't want to end up in a similar situation). Ansgar was the only one available. I'm not used to such hotels, a small stuffy room with poor light, almost no facilities, and with some odd rules. For example, when I came in, I saw a dustpan on the bed, and then on the wall I found a list of rules on what to do with this dustpan, for example, if you put it somewhere, your room will be cleaned. Whaaat? But on the bright side, I'll note the good location and a very comfortable mattress, I didn't expect to sleep so well.

Stayed with my husband for one night. I'm okay with dimmed light in the room and old furniture, the reception was nice with us and the breakfast was good. I would give a solid 4 stars of 5, but the one detail ruined it all: I've got bitten by insects (bed bugs? no idea how they called) who apparently live in blankets or bed itself. It wasn't moskitos, I sleep covered in blanket up to my head and the bites are spread around my body apart from underwear and t-shirt I sleep in. I have an allergic reaction to the bites, so the next three days they were itching extremely. My husband haven't got anything, although we slept together in one bed (technically tho smaller beds put together). Even though it may be important only to people with allergies, having insects in the bed or blanket is not normal.
Dear Milling Hotel Ansgar, you have a great location, good rooms and nice hotel staff. Please fix the bed in room 104, and I would be glad to rewrite my review. Thank you!

We stopped here as a midway point between LEGOLAND and Copenhagen for two nights. I would say that is enough to see the local area for anyone who has never visited before.
The hotel is a grand ‘old’ hotel. Clearly with age comes some signs of wear but I wouldn’t say anything overly worrying. A new hotel might suit some people better but you have to accept what a hotel is when you book it.
The hotel has a lot of character and is near the train station and a short walk to the town. There is some parking but if you arrive late expect to park across the road for around 125kr for 24 hours.
I liked this hotel, the breakfast has a good selection, the staff were friendly and helpful and the location was good.
You will hear road noise and Odense seems to be full of hen/ stag parties so be ware of them. (I had no idea not being from Denmark that it is a stag and hen party destination).
If travelling by train this is a perfect stopping point.

Spent the night in Odense to see a concert. The hotel was lovely and clean, The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Large breakfast selection, although I only had coffee.

Classical hotel from early 20th century. Rooms are comfortable and in style with the 20th century, which brings you back a century when you enter the lobby and the rooms, except at the reception, there are computers and other modern equipments. Nice stay, clean and very friendly staff. The restaurant was excellent. Highly recommended.

You get what you pay for. This is a cheap, old hotel, so I wouldn't book a romantic weekend here. It's a bit worn and quirky, but personally I choose to say: "it's got character". For a family just stopping for a night on a road trip, this was a great alternative. Big room with lots of space. Very friendly personnel and good breakfast.
