Came here last year about the same time. Plenty of food, more and better choices, staff really helpful. The grounds are very well maintained, wish I had grass like this at home. Great beach and lots of chairs and umbrellas. Rooms are very tidy and cleaned everyday. Our maid did a really nice job. The staff throughout the resort are really nice and pleasant. Thanks to Yani up front, Albert main buffet, Elvis a great entertainer and fried, Alberto bar up front, Jorge at the beach bar, Elisia at back for entertainment and all the others who work there.
For this review I had to think long and hard for as the people working in this absolutely amazing. Still I believe people looking for a higher quality hotel in Cuba will feel a little deceived after reading the current reviews in relation to the actual state of the hotel.
The maintenance of the buildings is deplorable. Leakages and damages are not fixed, buttons and airco controle is broken, machinery is loud, hot water is limited etcetera.
I also believe a hotel chain like Iberostar should have a minimum standard of quality so clients booking their rooms always know it will be good. This hotel lowert my trust in Iberostar big time.
I do understand where the high ratings come from. The hotel hired a charming employee actively gathering reviews. As most people don’t write reviews he is happy to assist by using their email, resulting in many 5 star reviews. I find this wrong.
So again. If you don’t mind old and out dated accommodation, you can have a pretty good stay. If you won’t more worth for your penny than you should look further.

Writing a review for this stay is difficult, as it’s not as straightforward as reviewing a typical hotel. However, I think other travellers deserve an honest understanding of what they’re paying for when choosing to stay here.
As I understand it, all resorts and hotels in Cuba are owned by the government, with management contracts in place — in this case, Iberostar manages the property. The resort is advertised as a 4-star hotel, but if you arrive expecting a 4-star standard comparable to other parts of the world, you will be disappointed.
The hotel is run down — very run down. After exploring other resorts in the area, though, this doesn’t appear to be an exception. Most properties seem to have taken a significant battering over recent years. The rooms are not great, but with kids we didn’t spend much time in them. We used the room for a quick shower in the morning and somewhere to sleep at night, and for that purpose, it did the job.
Another important factor to consider is that Cuba is going through a very difficult economic period. Basic supplies are hard to come by, and this impacts the food. The food was okay — not exceptional, but acceptable. In other parts of the world, you would expect a much higher standard, but given the circumstances, I think the hotel is doing reasonably well with what’s available.
The staff are friendly at times, but service is often dependent on tipping in advance rather than as a reward for good service. It’s very much a “pay to play” system.
