We stayed for 2 nights in June. First impression suggests 4-5 stars based on decor and finishing details in the rooms. For example, this is one of the few places I have stayed in Costa Rica that features proper crown mouldings and quality hardware in the rooms. The poor man's infinity pool is also a nice touch. However, at some point after check in, you realize you are in a no mans land… so close, yet so far away. You are kind of close to Dominical and kind of close to Uvita, yet you are not in either. You are maybe 200 m from the ocean, yet it does not matter as there is no access, and only a pocket viewing window. Furthermore, you are close enough to the highway to enjoy the sound of the passing traffic all night long, as opposed to the tranquility of the jungle or waves crashing on the coast. Upon retiring for the first evening, you realize the $ spent on finish work would have been better served going towards quality mattresses. I tossed and turned all night! However, I guess the thing that irked me the most was, that despite it being the slow season (June), they took an opportunity to charge me an additional $60 USD for having a child with us. I do understand and realize the necessity for charging a rate commensurate with the number of guests, but it was an honest mistake in omitting the child upon booking, and seemed a bit of a drastic penalty, given this is an average price hotel (+/ — 100 USD/night).
