I stayed at Tabacon Thermal Resort for 3 nights with my son and daughter and we had an amazing time. The resort is located in a beautiful rainforest reserve at the base of the Arenal Volcano. The views are stunning and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The resort has 5 swimming pools and a network of natural hot springs that you can enjoy for free as a guest. The hot springs are different temperatures and sizes, and some have waterfalls or jacuzzis. They are open until 10 pm and they provide towels and lockers. The hot springs are surrounded by lush vegetation and flowers, creating a magical setting. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and clean. We had a balcony with a hammock and a view of the volcano. The bed was very cozy and the bathroom had a rain shower and organic toiletries. There was also a minibar, a coffee maker, and a flat-screen TV with cable channels. The service was excellent throughout our stay. The staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. They arranged our transportation from San Jose airport, booked our tours to the national park and the hanging bridges, and gave us recommendations for restaurants and activities. They also surprised us with a bottle of wine and chocolate-covered strawberries for our anniversary. The food was delicious at both restaurants: Los Tucanes for breakfast and dinner, and Ave del Paraiso for lunch.

Lovely stay at this fabulous resort. The thermal pools are amazing, lots of quiet secluded spots. Magnificent views of the volcano. So much to see & do in the area. Good restaurant and breakfast. Peaceful, beautiful setting.

I’ve stayed at your beautiful resort three times and my last trip we brought our daughter to show off how gorgeous and magical your hot springs are — we had wonderful service all around, saw toucans in the open air lobby trees, arrived early and you accommodated us by opening the lobby cafe early so we could have a bite before heading off to our room. Chocolate covered strawberries were very thoughtful because we were celebrating our anniversary. Dinner and service was excellent in your formal restaurant. The highlight for me of every Costa Rica vacation is your stunning hot springs complete with hot pool and swim up bar where drinking a pina colada out of a pineapple is Pura vida as I know it!

If it is one of the best thermal centers on the planet.

What an amazing experience we’ve had at Tabacon! All the staff has been extraordinary our whole visit. We’re honestly sad to leave because everyone’s been so wonderful…. From the employees at the counter, to those at the restaurant, to those who take care of the rooms I can’t even begin to describe how incredible they all are. Thank you for incredible scenery and even more incredible employees!

We had the best experience at Tabacon. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The people of La Fortruna were extremely welcoming and we had wonderful encounters with everyone. Highly suggest Tabacon and we will be back someday!

We had the most amazing visit to Tabacon. The customer service was incredible and every staff member really made you feel at home. Shout out to Oscar and Rafael for all their help during our stay. The resort was beautiful, the food was great and the views were breath taking. We will definitely be visiting again.

Fantastic place to stay! We took our kids (in there 20’s) with us and they were blown away by how nice it is and loved the hot springs, food and felt very pampered. Great place to start the vacation! My husband and I celebrated 10 years.

I am having a wonderful time at Tabacon. Glad to be back After 20 years! This place still does not disappoint. It is relaxing and a beautiful atmosphere. However, I would not recommend the watermelon bowl alcoholic drink. It did not taste well and I was extremely disappointed for such an expensive item. I didn’t even finish it. : (

Was in 701 amazing room best ive been in.

We were sceptical after reading such mixed reviews. However this place is lovely and great value at 75 dollars for a 4hr visit with 3 course lunch. We arrived at 10am and spent our first hour in a natural pool up the top of the river and never seen another soul. The provided lunch was of great quality and plentiful. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Just wish we had booked a longer visit!

Excellent attention, very friendly staff, without distinction national or foreign, as it should be. Excellent food and facilities too. In the payment was included dinner in the Ave restaurant, there is only more variety left in that menu. Super recommended! 👌🏻

Tabacon is simply fabulous! We had a wonderful stay and everything was perfect — from the beautiful gardens to the great views of the arenal volcano. The staff was AMAZING. Wow. Just wow. Everything was perfect, the staff are super friendly. AND you get to cook your own Ribeye steak on a volcanic rock. This place is highly recommended for a romantic trip away. We were celebrating our honeymoon and the hotel pulled out all the stops to accommodate us. Thank you so much to them for this, it made it extra special.

We visited Tabacon’s hot springs for a few hours twelve years ago as part of a day-long tour of the Arenal area. We loved it so much that we returned this year and stayed at their resort for five days with our two young children. We fell in love with Tabacon even more! The staff was amazing, the amenities incredible and the whole facility — hot springs, restaurants, rooms — were top notch! We stayed in a Tabacon Suite which gave plenty of space for our family of four and offered a wonderful rainforest backyard. We loved watching the peacocks, raccoons and other exotic birds from our huge sliding glass doors. At the resort, we especially loved the breakfast every morning (best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had in all our global travels) and spending a few hours each day at the hot springs. The spa was amazing too — great setting in a private hut in the rainforest next to a bubbling creek. We hope to be back!

Amazing experience. Staff was super attentive upon arrival. We got cold towels and refreshments while waiting to check in and then we were shuttled directly to our room. Got some room service and the food was great. The property itself was lush wild and beautiful. The thermal spas we're like nothing else I've ever seen and were complimentary for guests.

Just awesome. We have been to our favourite hotel many times and will be back soon. Dinner at the hot springs alone deserves 5 stars. The rooms are very clean and the staff are always friendly. The Hot Springs is a highlight that makes you forget all the problems in the world.

Parking is kinda difficult unless you get there right before they open. Everything is very nice inside, lots of pools. Max heat is about 100 degrees. Ran into an iguana which was interesting. Going once for a day pass was enough, not planning on going back.

Friendly staff, first rate accommodations. Our most expensive meal of our entire trip to Costa Rica was at the La Toucan at Tabacon. The restaurant is delightful, and the atmosphere is wonderful, albeit quite dark. Unfortunately, the actual meal was a disappointment — and incredibly expensive too. We had the rib-eye cooked on a personal super-heated lava stone. While the stone cooking was ok, and only a little hokey, the actual steak was not up to the standards that and entree of this cost should be. There were four of us dining and we all shared in this opinion. Wonderful resort. Skip La Toucan for steaks anyhow.

Everything was fabulous: spectacular room, beautiful common areas, amazing thermal pools, Agradabilísimo restaurant. All very cozy and caring.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
For putting some glue, in the restaurant we were served tap water and I was terrible. If you accept me a tip, drink only bottled water. Very important.
It is also very hot and the hotel pool is boiling, very careful with the dehydration. It would be appreciated cold water (although in the thermal pools there is a cold one).
We gave a massage at the spa and it was absolutely wonderful. Highly recommended and very worthwhile.

AMAZING! Please go! it was so relaxing the food, hot springs and the swim up bar. I couldn't asks for anymore! I was in my happy place. By far the best part of my 7 day trip!

Was there as a hot springs visitor. In main pool water is way too hot, around 40 Celsius degrees. In other pools water is not so hot. There are some air and water massage. Prices in bar are high. 4-5 bucks for beer, 4-8 bucks for shots and 8-10 bucks for cocktails. I prefer free springs but my wife loves this place.

This place is heaven on earth. I love everything about it. So glad we have booked this place for 3 nights. The Shangrila for hotel guests only is paradise. The friendly staff, amazing service, the yummy breakfast buffet, and the impeccable landscape. Wish I could live here forever.

This place is wonderful, the hot springs are beautiful and very nice, it has pool with bar inside it, and restaurant that is a delicious, I loved it all I did the hot springs from a tour that leaves San Jose includes lunch and dinner in tobacco for 140 USD.

This is difficult to write… I've been visiting Tabacon since 1995, but lately it's just a place for really, really, really old people. They offload buses of tourists and only charge the tour companies a small fraction of what they charge visitors to spend time in the springs. Personally, I think they should have a cover charge based on the time you enter the area… Less expensive during off peak hours, more during peak hours… Then charge an hourly rate on top of this… This would keep people enjoying the area and make more money than the current pricing system. I specialize in demand and congestion pricing, queueing theory, predictive pricing, etc… Trust me, this would just make everyone happy and make the resort more money.

Great accommodations. Breakfast buffet was awesome! The only thing that we were disappointed with was the food menu for lunch and dinner. Expensive and not very many healthy options. But we rented a car and went to LaFortuna and that was great and very close by. I would recommend Tabacon.

Did a day spa here — if only I could give it 10⭐️! Exceeded my expectations for sure! Such attentive staff — I barely had to say anything or look further than across the room, someone would be there. Beautiful facilities in the spa hut! Had a fantastic experience and feel amazing!

Two words: Hot springs. This place has some pretty impressive landscape architecture that makes up their hot springs area. We definitely made use of the adults only area (which had the hottest pools btw). The hotel itself was very nice. Attentive staff, great breakfast, and comfy beds.

We go to the river, on the free side, it's amazing to really see a full river of hot water, everything that must be under our feet and nature gives us a little bit of it to enjoy, there are many attractions around without paying, it's just a matter of looking a bit and you'll find everything to forget about the rest.

Beautiful place with huge rooms. The hot springs are gorgeous. The stuff was too rigid with some rules which made us annoyed but overall it was great. Breakfast is fine but dinner buffet is so so.

Fantastic service, fantastic location. With the only real hot springs that is naturally created by the rivers. Definitely nice, serene, relaxing, and lots of opportunity to relax. Also close to many outdoor adventure opportunities.

Too expensive for what I offer. The hot springs are a delight, but you can enter them without the need for accommodation in the hotel. Food, drink and very expensive services, and they are nothing of the other world. The staff is very friendly, as in all Costa Rica.

Absolutely loved our stay here! The room was fantastic. The staff was great! We really enjoyed the food. The hot springs had many different pools so you could have some privacy. There is an adult guest only section that is much quieter and private. The spa was also very good. If you need a massage this is the place.

The hot springs in the resort are amazing but I think the hotel / resort is significantly overpriced for what I would expect from a place like this. The rooms are nice but lack many touches that I would expect from a $300+ night place — examples: safe is old, there is free water but tastes terrible — and you can pay extra for regular bottled water (most places at this price point in Costa Rica would just give you free water), the way the room is designed it's super easy to track water into your room (and it rains a lot). The staff is friendly but only mildly attentive (once again not what I would expect at this price point). It is also worth noting that the breakfast / hot springs are isn't quite where the accommodations are at. It's a good 5-8 minute walk down / up the hill — there is a free shuttle connecting both areas, just wasn't areas obvious piece of information when I booked the room. I have a sense that I'd be better off buying a day pass for the hot springs and staying somewhere else with better value for money.

Wow! I really cant say enough great things about this place! The staff was super helpful, the food was good and great overall atmosphere. I was a little concerned that the website might have over embellished the place, but I would actually say that as awesome as their website is, it doesn't do this place justice. If you eat at the restaurant try to get Luis as your waiter, he is awesome!

Fantastic luxury Hotel. The rooms are very large and comfortable, the bed and the pillows super comfortable. The bathroom is very spacious and from inside the bathroom you can see the rest of the room and vice versa. It has several restaurants and you can eat at any time of the day.
All the staff at the hotel are very friendly.
You can not smoke inside the hotel with the aim of being very respectful to the environment.

Easily one of the nicest resorts I have ever been to. Hotel staff was wonderful, rooms were spacious and clean, and hot springs were amazing. The property is massive, and you can spend days hanging out and exploring the springs without ever getting bored. Would highly recommend Tabacon to anyone visiting La Fortuna / Arenal.

The room we stayed on was very modern. They turn down the rooms everyday and change sheets every evening. Very clean and professional staff. You won't have problems looking for outlets here. They have plenty. Our room is amazing, cause we have a volcano view in front of the sliding glass. Hot springs are very also amazing. They have shuttle service driving back and forth every 5 minutes or less to bring you back and forth from the spa to the rooms. There's lots of entrances and trails to access different parts of the hot springs and it looks very natural. One local we talked to said it was natural river. For food they have restaurants and free breakfast at tucana restaurant. We went to the town area where lots of foreigners walk around. We went to My Coffee (which serves great cappuccino) and Pollo Fortuneño (for a whole open fire grilled chicken and beef ribs) it was all great!

One of my favorite places to go for a relaxing vacation. The grounds were beautiful, the service excellent and the adjoining hot springs were amazing. A perfect place to truly get away and relax.

I had a suite. This was really nice. Its hot springs were the best in the world. Though there can be lizards in the hotel lobby, that's just the tropical climate. It has a great view of the volcano.

Wow. This place was unbelievably gorgeous. Really amazing staff who are always ready to help with anything. Amazing food, for every meal. It felt like the height of luxury. I would recommend giving yourself time to just enjoy the hotel and hot springs and not plan too many activities, you will want to be able to enjoy the hotel!

Large well kept rooms and bathrooms, beautiful setting. Make sure to access the guest portion of the hot springs (Shangri-La) for the less crowded and more relaxed pools. Enjoyed a wonderful couples massage at the spa. We were disappointed with the food at the resort (quality for the price). Also, we did not have a rental vehicle so were stuck at the resort without a good way to get to La Fortuna over 6 miles away.

Amazing thermal pools! Amazing beds. Views from our room was meh, but maybe bc cloudy. One of my top 4 hotels I've been to. (Vail cascades, Marriott Wailea Zoetry and Tabacon). Worth the splurge. Luxurious sheets bedding and robes. Short walk or van ride to the best natural spas in the area. 1 night gets you entry the day you arrive and check out. $60 per day normal price entry to the thermal baths. Staying at the hotel gets you access to a private area with posh beds, bar with 2 for 1 happy hour and 3 hot spas (103)

My girlfriend and I came here after dinner, in order to take advantage of the evening special ($45 instead of $60 after 6:00 pm). We were worried that coming so late at night might not be a great experience, but we couldn't have been more wrong. There are dozens of pools, connected with waterfalls so that it appears to be a natural river system, but with hot tub temperature water. At night, the place is softly and tastefully lit, so that you feel as if you are enjoying a romantic night in the jungle, rather than at a swimming pool. A few minor caveats that don't merit a rating below 5 stars: * The bottoms of most of the pools are natural rock and sand, which is quite cool, but it's easy to stub your toe in the dark. * The locker rooms are a little bit on the cramped and dirty side. * The dive up bar is a cool experience, but the drinks are all of the blended ice variety, and to my taste contained practically no alcohol — if I came again I would skip them, or just get a cheaper non alcoholic drink. Things to make sure you don't miss: * Go all the way to the back and find a secluded pool where it feels like you're the only person in the place. * The waterslide is small, but surprisingly fast and fun.

The best of it are the springs.

Wonderful end to a busy day of hiking with a soak in hot spring pools in absolutely gorgeous setting. Finalized with grand buffet that we gorged ourselves on. On next trip to Costa Rica we will stay in this resort! Can I put 6 stars?

Pleasant bath in thermal waters in volcanic.

The Tabacon is a great hotel and covers the greater part of the extension of the hot springs of Tabacon. Facilities are excellent, about the restaurant don't think that is at the height. I was a little satisfied on the two occasions that I visited him and I doubt he returns.

It's one of the best resort's that I ever visited… Bautiful Rooms, Beautiful Facilities, Friendly Staff! If you visit Costa Rica don't forget to visit Tabacon.

The superior rooms were marginal at best. The service was okay. Really disappointed for a five star hotel.

Wow. This place is just wow. The people are great and the rooms are ok. Depends on the type of room. The entire hotel is in the middle of the jungle with excellent views of the volcano. Also, you will an a all access pass to to hot springs in the spa.

I really dislike leaving a bad review for a place especially when I have not been inside of it but I think people should know certain things about this place. This is probably the nicest place to go to in Costa Rica but I have to admit it is the worst when it comes to service. I tried calling non-stop the day before to do book an all-day hot springs or spa day and even emailed them and no one answer either the phone or bother to respond to my email. I find it very unprofessional for any company not to get back to any potential customer. My wife and I decided to go there directly and just do a walk-in. We took a cab and we were greeted nicely but when he asked if we made a reservation he immediately told us that they're fully booked. I don't like to state I would pay anything but I was willing to pay whatever amount the guy threw at me but he basically said no. I asked him about the phones and their email and he basically said they were busy and to make appointments two months in advance. I'm sorry but that's just plain ridiculous then no apology for not getting back to us. I know what you all must think: "yeah, this dude is angry because he couldn't really get into the place" but I was in a lot of pain from my back and my wife is 4 months pregnant and we wanted to have a relaxing day. I will never recommend a place that discriminates people like myself who speaks Spanish as they probably thought I was some poor peasant.

Hands down best resort I have ever stayed at. Could not have had a better stay at Tabacon in October 2015. Can't wait to visit again!

Just outide the resort are the "free hotsprings. " Very fun area, and we saw lots of monkeys playing in the trees above us!

When you get told: "God put here the paraiso"

One of the TOP Spas in the world. The thermal pools are amazing and the insite massages are the best. Great for Honeymoons!

I am more than happy to pay most any price for true value/ quality. Tabacon offers neither. Within two hours of our arrival the housekeeper put an envelope on our bed asking for her tip. It said, if I'm not available please take it to the front desk. Out of the gate I was miffed. Also there was a letter from Nancy van der Well, head of customer relations stating if there was anything I needed please ask. I replied to Nancy's letter stating that I did not like the housekeepers plea for tips, the ice machine was broken and there was no ice buckets available or in the room. Nancy was too busy to reply. In addition there were two restaurants on the property. One required collared shirt, long pants and "closed toed shoes. " The prices were VERY steep. Their second choice was their buffet. For $84.00 dollars we were treated to frozen dry lasagna, frozen veggie medley w/ no seasoning swimming in water, a tasteless whitefish w/ salt and pepper and a salad bar with less than fresh veggies. In all fairness the lettuce was fresh and clean. They presented an attractive array of deserts all frozen from a box. The "Buffet" showed NO attention to detail whatsoever and as I stated previously it was the only other choice on the property. It is the very first time IN MY LIFE that I left zero tip. Pitiful attempt at food service. The second night we took a taxi into town, 3 miles, $18.00 each way.

One of the most natural experience. The resort has many accommodations to meet travelers need. Their service was excellent.

Increible lugar, lo mejor de Costa Rica.

Beautiful thermal waterfalls in the jungle.

Went at night and found it to be one of the most amazing and romantic times for my wife and I. The water is so amazingly warm and the atmosphere is absolutely special! Oh yeah and the buffet dinner was very tasty.

The hot springs, pool, and bar at the Tabacon Grand Spa and Resort are really great, but the hotel and management of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired, and is the sole reason for my low rating. I traveled with my family last week to Costa Rica and as part of our trip we booked 4 rooms at this hotel for 2 nights. While one of the rooms was very nice, the other three were really worn out and not well maintained. There were screens in disrepair, dirt in the area rugs, and windows and patio doors that did not seem secure. Two of the rooms lacked a couch and table with chairs that the other two rooms had making it uncomfortable to be anywhere but on the bed. One of the 4 rooms had no hot water making showering in the room uncomfortable and resulted in occupants showering over at the hot springs. That room also had a very distinct musty smell. The final issue that pushed this rating so low was that when we checked in, we were told we had two free buffet dinners included with our room — one for each night of our stay. As our reservation confirmation showed only ONE night, we repeatedly questioned the hotel representative about this discrepancy. He assured us no less than three times that we had two nights of complementary buffet dinners and that there would be absolutely no cost to us. After eating the second night at the buffet however, the story changed and we were charged the full price ($39.95 US each) for our 7 meals.

This is the 3rd time coming to this hotel for the hot springs and this time, we got the large suite but the only minus was it lacked a storage dresser. If we're paying $500+ a night, we expect to unpack a little, you know? They also removed the self parking and now have to wait for the parking attendants to bring the car around. They also should include breakfast with the price of the room. The hot springs make it worth but next time we'll try a different hotel.

One of the best hotel/resort experiences I've ever had, maybe the best. The rooms were great, the staff was very friendly, and the restaurant's food was fantastic — much better than I expected. The hot springs were incredible. Beautiful, relaxing, and relatively easy to find a quiet, secluded spot to yourself. The weather was a little hot (April) so the hot springs were almost too hot, but not quite. The spa was very impressive (although I'm not an expert) — a couples massage in an open-air but private bungalow in the middle of the jungle was very cool, with lots of nice perks both before and after. We spent a little extra for the private gala dinner on our last night, and it was well worth it — a romantic setting in a secluded bungalow with our own waiter and a private chef. Awesome.

Nice place but even for a popular tourist spot relatively expensive. Buffet dinner included with most package has very limited choices and mediocre at best. Locker room is small and can get crowded. Staff is not as friendly or helpful as in other resorts or attractions. Worth a visit but other hot springs in the area maybe better.

First level toilets. Rooms with all amenities and hotel surrounded by nature. The breakfast is simply incredible. In addition, the resort's spa is unique and there are plenty of activities in the area of the Arenal Volcano. I recommend going out for dinner at the restaurant El Novillo. Very good meat.
