Raina Holiday Accommodation

We stayed here on my first overseas holiday. We arrive from nz at night. We spent 30 minutes in the dark with the driver looking for a key to. The room when we eventually got into the room there was 2 sheets on the bed. The place was dirty. The shower had a big clot of hair in it. There was ants crawling on the beach top. The only way to get the gas oven to work was with. Matces.
We had to ask for clean towels. Our room was never serviced.

We stayed at the beach house opposite the apartments. The Apartments look nothing like the advertised photos probably taken 20years ago. It looks like an hoarders house and an eye sore from the road, probably a hazard by the sounds of other peoples experiences there. The beach house a cross the road has a beautiful ocean view but the house is so worn out the pictures fall off the walls, the kitchen was so disgusting dirty. The wood floors were disgusting and sticky. 1 bedroom must get rats because there were droppings everywhere. The linen on the beds looked like they were never changed. Not small child friendly and it looks like no maintenance has been done for awhile. The poor staff live in a shed right beside the house literally attached to the bedroom wall. Whether that is legal or not. Privacy is none existent. The owner June is a racist and doesn’t like Māori. She will harass you and ruin your entire stay. She wanted photos while we were there twice during our 5day stay, to check if we broke her old junk. She will try to intimidate you, talk down on your children and threaten you by calling random people. And finally calling police. To which they thought she was a total unreasonable nutter. And we managed to complete our stay there feeling like we were walking on eggshells the whole time. Not worth my money, energy or putting my kids through. My first ever experience dealing with people like this. Ruined our entire experience as we came to bury our mum.

Beautiful garden scenery all around. The beach is just across the road but isn’t visible from the apartments. I was on the bottom floor and the room was very big with a lot of outside space too. The room is old and the shower takes a while to go warm but for the price we paid it isn’t bad. There’s only two places that I saw that you can grab food from within a walkable distance and they aren’t open all week but the bus stop is literally right outside on the road so that was a plus. It was very hard to get in contact with the lady who owns it but luckily this wasn’t an issue as it wasn’t an urgent matter. I would recommend for anyone on a budget not looking for anything fancy.

June was lovely as a host, very helpful when I asked for anything.
Sadly, for myself I was expecting a restful room with sea views.
I take responsibility for booking, not realising it was across road from beach.
For myself, it was a spacious apartment but I didn't get any restful sleep as various neighbourhood activities start up early in mornings. Fine, if you want to start earlier with sunrise on beach.
Gardens are very lovely.

Great location with an almost private beach across the road. Beautiful garden and spacious apartment. June was a lovely host welcoming us with some delicious fruit. The place is almost next door to the infamous Charlie's restaurant. Which makes it very convenient for a dinner and drinks without worrying about driving home.
The only downside is that the apartment has no aircon. After a full day at the beach, we'd come back to a hot apartment. Other than that, we had a lovely stay and would come back again.

Across the road from the beach, well worth what you pay for it, has everything you need and what is advertised. The staff are friendly and really helpful. You get a bit of road noise but you get used to it.
Central point of view and has some of the best snorkeling across the road from the apartments so no need to drive to snorkeling spots and no currents so really good for kid with beach to sit on.
Charlies restaurant walking distance which serve some really good food at reasonable prices, night markets not to far so convenient for dinners. When w ego back we will definitely stay there if there is room as it always has people so its really popular.

I stayed in the ground floor apartment at Raina Beach Apartments in April 2019 for 4 nights. Tanya was an organised host and arranged airport transfers for me ahead of time. The apartment was massive and very comfortable. The location was good, right by Charlie’s which did great food (see other review! ) and near other resorts which had nice restaurants too. The beach by Raina’s was also very beautiful with clear water for swimming. The nearest supermarket (24/7) was a 50 min walk away, but easily accessible by bus, car, scooter or bike. It was well stocked so I used the kitchen in the apartment 2 nights. The kitchen was quite well equipped, although there was no tin opener and the hob did not light, so I had to go and buy matches down the road. The bathroom was clean and both shower and beach towels were provided which was great. The shower was not very powerful, but nice and warm after a couple of minutes. The apartment was well lit and airy, I enjoyed staying there a lot – thank you Tanya!
