Sunset Resort - Adults Only Sunset Resort

Where to start. Had an upper level two bedroom suite with balcony accessible from lounge and one bedroom. Beds and shower Great. Air-conditioning in three rooms. Kitchen not really for cooking — but heaps of options for all price ranges nearby. Staff friendly. Pools were fantastic with heaps of loungers. Loungers and hammocks at the beach were bliss. Good swimming off the beach. Did some snorkeling too ans saw fish. Great sunsets.

What a fantastic visit to Sunset Resort, the staff were exceptional. So friendly and helpful, nothing was any trouble. They always greeted us by name and were so helpful.
Right from our pickup at the airport the service was fantastic, and this continued throughout our stay and to our drop off at the airport.
The room was great, the pools were excellent and easy access to the beach with chairs overlooking the beach. The location is excellent being very close to everything.
A big thank you to the ladies in reception and crews in the bar/restaurant.
We will be back to Cook Islands and will definitely stay here again.

My wife, daughter and I stayed here for 5 nights while in Rarotonga for our nephews wedding. We'd asked for the 2 Bedroom Beachfront Suite which was right down by the seafront, with its own gated entry from the rest of the resort, veranda, deck chairs and outdoor table. The room had air-conditioning in the main living area, as well as both bedrooms and Sunset had kindly turned this on for us, so when we arrived the room was cool. It's very hot in Rarotonga this time of the year. Room was clean and well presented, with separate bathroom and 2 toilets. Sunset also had pod coffee supplied for 4 but you could purchase extra pods from reception, fridge with milk and we were told that the tap water was drinkable tho we purchased bottled water. Beds were comfy. Overall we were very pleased with the room. Location wise we were 5 mins from the Airport and less than 10mins from the main town. For those of you that don't know, you can drive around the Island in about 20mins so. We hired a car so getting to places was super easy. Service the people at Sunset Resort could have been nicer. From when we first enquiries re making a book, to arriving, answering questions that we had to simply saying Ki Orana in the morning they were lovely. Tip from them to us when we were booking, it is actually cheaper to deal with them directly rather than going through a agency or booking online :-) We did find this to be true.

I have stayed at the Sunset Resort twice — once for a wedding when I stayed in a pool side room by myself for a week (which I extended for another) and then again a few years later I came back and got a beach front villa and brought my elderly Mum to the Cooks for the first time.
On both occasions the rooms and all amenities were fantastic. Spacious, spotless, and well maintained. The staff were incredible — the right mix of friendly and leaving you to it. This was the first time in my life I understood what doing nothing on holiday and enjoying it meant! (It's why I extended my stay for another week to read, snorkel, walk, swim and laze. )
The food and cocktails were great plus it's an easy stroll to local restaurants and bars, plus the staff took care of our airport transfers and helped me arrange any trips I wanted to do while on the island. (Treks, fishing etc)
Shout out to their safety plan for my second stay when a cyclone hit: they made sure our room was safe, secure, and we had food, water and that our family at home were reached as soon as possible. They also took care of the really big crawly thing that was trying to shelter from the weather too! )
Looking at their website right now, I'd give anything to be back.

This is a lovely little resort. Its quiet and peaceful, with nice grounds and a great pool. I had a studio room which had a kitchenette which was well equipped. The water is filtered, so no need to buy any. Internet was provided and was fast. Staff were very helpful. The room was very clean and serviced well every day. There was a lot of rooster noise, but hard to escape that in the Cooks. There was a light continental breakfast included in my rate — toast, fruit, yoghurt, juice, tea and coffee and a couple of types of cereal. There is a self serve laundry room, which is open limited hours as its adjacent to some rooms. So there can be a bit of a queue/wait issue. It would be great if they moved the smoking spot somewhere else as have to walk past it to get to/from laundry room and some of the rooms.

What a lovely experience. Staff friendly, accommodating and helpful with all enquiries.
Bedside reading lamps could perhaps be a little more effective especially for those who are into night time reading.
Thanks to everyone at The Sunset Resort for making this an unforgettable treat for us. Definitely a place to come back to.

About 5 mins drive from airport. 15 min walk to Island Car Rentals and 2 coffee carts. Quiet, well-maintained and respectable adults-only resort with 1 very nice, big pool with all-day sun, a smaller pool by the bar (nice cocktails at ok prices) hammocks on the beach (lovely! ), lawn, plenty of parking space, all surrounded by lush garden. Best to have a vehicle to get places from here. Two toilets and plenty of balcony in our 2-bedroom unit was good for our family. Weather good on this side of the island. Special thanks to Tevai on reception and Bai in the restaurant for your friendly and personable service. Would stay again.

“5 days in Paradise”
This resort should be named Paradise. It was an absolute bliss to have a holiday in this place. From the moment we got picked up by lovely Candace that also dropped us off to the Market and to the airport in the bittersweet way back. The staff were absolutely fantastic, always with a smile, so polite and cheerful. Facilities are so clean and the work done around the garden is magnificent, you feel at all times living a dream. The food at the restaurant is unique, tried all sort of island food that I miss so much now! Cocktails served by the most warm welcoming people, big shout out to Tina that took so much care of us. The beach is incredible, the sunset was the most amazing we ever seen. Will definitely be coming back here, thank you so much, Meitaki!

My wife and I just had an unforgettable stay at the adults only, Sunset Resort Rarotonga, and we can't recommend it enough. From the moment we were picked up from the airport, we were greeted with warm "Kia Orana" smile, beautiful flower lei that smelt amazing and at the hotel the reception staff were welcoming & the exceptional hospitality that continued throughout our entire vacation.
The Location: The Sunset Resort.
  is situated on Rarotonga's western ‘sunset’ coast, and located at Ara Tapu,
Arorangi Rarotonga, absolute beachfront on a stunning blue lagoon. Set amidst majestic palm trees and lush tropical gardens. Watching the beautiful sunset lying in a hammock sipping a cocktail was hard to take but someone's got to do it.
The Room: We stayed in a pool view Villa, looking out on the pool & lush tropical gardens. The room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully furnished a modern island aesthetic. We loved the thoughtful touches like a well-equipped kitchenette, air conditioning and a private porch with loungers. The king size bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful sleep every night.
Service & Amenities: The staff truly made this a five-star experience. They were attentive, friendly, and always went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed the poolside bar called 'bird cage' that served up delicious cocktails & the on-site restaurant 'Anchorage' and bar served up delicious food & drinks.

Impecable rooms and areas, great beach and lagoon access, great snorkeling. The Birdcage Bar is very good and the Anchorage Restaurant was my favorite. The receptionists were fantastic! Hailey, Ti Wai, Tina — and the beautiful blonde short-haired lady — made our stay with their care and service. They arranged all our excursions, dinners, massages, transfers… they were all "swiss-army knives" switching to different functions throughout the day; their friendliness was genuine and we certainly felt happy and well taken care of. The venue, like I mentioned earlier, looks impeccable and one of the things I liked the most was that you could see how they keep it 💯 everyday doing something to improve its looks. We will definitely choose it again in the future! Meitaki ma'ata for making our experience in Rarotonga unforgettable! ❤️

This was our 4th visit to the Sunset Resort and it’s still the amazing resort we remember from our last visit in 2013. The staff were amazing as they made sure everything was going right and if we needed anything…check-in was quick and easy and we were escorted down to our fantastic room. Next morning we went up to the Anchorage restaurant for morning breakfast with the other guests. Great way to start our day. The resort has 2 pools, and an amazing beach with plenty of loungers and even hammocks in the trees where you have no choice but to relax. We went into town and obtained our drivers licences in order to rent scooters which are the best way to go around the Island. Lots of great restaurants and shops but even better, amazing people and scenery. The food at the Anchorage Restaurant was fantastic and our servers were so hospitable and friendly. Always had smiles and a warm greeting and service for their clients. All of the guests were so friendly and it was great chatting with everyone. Happy hour was at the Birdcage bar and they served some very good drinks. We look forward to visiting again in the future but until then, thank you for such an amazing visit.

My husband and good friend stayed here last week, it was 12 years since we last visited. The resort is so calming and relaxing on the waters edge, Swimming in the sea was lovely as you could see exactly what your feet were standing on, which I love. Two amazing swimming pools but one is for the less mobile of us and a joy to get in and out of. Our rooms were just as comfy as home and ooooodles of towels which is great when you have 4 people in on apartment. Bathroom was a wet room and a walled seat to sit on (I'm scared of showers on the wall) which really suited me. Easy access into Averua and bus stop right outside the resort. The food was quite nice but plenty of restaurants within walking distance to vary your meals. Very friendly helpful staff. It was our friends first visit to Raro and she adored it and would come straight back to this resort when returning. We wont leave it 12 years to return ourselves. It is a wonderful resort for disabled travellers and there are no children allowed under 15.

We had an incredible stay at Sunset Resort Rarotonga. The staff went above and beyond to help my elderly mother — they provided a replacement wheelchair, arranged to weld her broken wheelchair frame, and even offered to transport us anywhere at any time. Their kindness made a huge difference to our trip.
On top of that, the beachfront views were absolutely stunning, and the food and drinks from the restaurant and bars were divine. It truly felt like paradise, and for anyone travelling with a disability, this is a friendly and supportive place to stay.
I highly recommend Sunset Resort — they genuinely care about their guests. 🌺 Kia orana!

Wow, wow, wow — Our beach front accommodation was perfect, peaceful, very clean & was well stocked with everything we needed. Breathtaking sun sets, whale watching, black pearl demonstration, relaxing in the hammocks, strolling along the beach, swim in one of the two pools or just sitting relaxing watching the waves crash over into the lagoon — the list goes on. We used the restaurant a number of times for breakfast & dinner — the staff are so friendly & accommodating, the food was excellent. Live music topped off a couple of the nights (one being a barbecue night). Staff at reception were also very friendly & helpful with organizing a night out for a cultural experience & any local info needed. Highly recommend Sunset Resort for its location, especially if you can get the beachfront accommodation.

What an awesome stay! The staff are absolutely amazing and so friendly! Lovely location and so nice as an adults only resort. Very peaceful! The cocktails at the birdcage bar were fantastic too! Can't wait to come back!

I recently stayed at the Sunset Resort in Rarotonga and couldn’t have been more impressed. From the moment we arrived, everything was flawless. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and well-equipped, with a comfortable island feel that made us feel right at home.
The on-site restaurant was excellent, offering delicious meals with fresh, local ingredients, and a great mix of options to suit all tastes. Dining by the pool or with a view of the ocean made it even more special.
The setting itself is stunning – right on the beachfront with incredible sunsets each evening. The resort has two beautiful pools, both surrounded by lush gardens, providing plenty of spots to relax in peace.
What really stood out was the staff. Every single person we encountered was warm, welcoming, and genuinely cared about making our stay enjoyable. Their friendliness added so much to the whole experience.
Overall, Sunset Resort is the perfect place to stay in Rarotonga – whether you’re looking to relax, enjoy great food, or soak up the island’s natural beauty. Highly recommend.

Great priced option on sunset side of rarotonga. Good included breakfast. Free Wi-Fi. Great bar and two swimming pools.
Restaurant is good and they have themed nights.
Adults + teens only so much quieter than other resorts.
Reception staff are very good and welcoming.
Direct beach access.
Close to other resorts and restaurants for other di ing options. Bakery directly across the road.
Only negative would be to have more shade around the main pool.
Have stayed here several times.
