Castaway Resort

We stayed three nights before heading out to Aitutaki. Room was clean and tidy with a complementary breakfast supplied in room. Slight sewage smell from the outside toilets which catered to the restaurant/bar guests. Highly recommend the seafood platter and jugs of sangria. Friendly and helpful staff.

Castaway Beach Bar is a wonderful place—beautiful, clean, peaceful, and perfectly located right on the beach. The food is absolutely delicious, and the relaxed atmosphere made our honeymoon even more special.
But the real reason for this review is Firaz.
We came to Rarotonga from Tahiti for our honeymoon, and from day one, Firaz was simply incredible. We were a bit lost at first, and he was always there to help us with a smile, kindness, and genuine care. Throughout our entire stay, he consistently went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves.
Exceptional service like his is rare. He made us feel welcome, remembered us, and truly made our experience unforgettable. Employees like Firaz are the reason guests want to come back.
Castaway, please take good care of Firaz… give him a promotion and a raise—he absolutely deserves it! 😄

We stayed here for seven nights. Generally the staff were friendly but this was a little hit and miss with some individuals. Nothing terrible but we didn’t feel particularly welcome on our first night as we approached the restaurant to be turned away for not having a booking. We subsequently returned to our room and made an o line booking for 30 minutes later. Suddenly they were able to squeeze us in.
Food wasn’t great in all honesty. Overpriced for what we received. Cocktails were reasonably good value and made well.
I’d definitely recommend for the accommodation and beach bar but not so much for the food. There are better options available on the island.

Really enjoyed eating at Castaway Resort. We had the best sashimi and Ika Mata here, that we had on our whole 10 days in Rarotonga — was very fresh and delicious! Had a few drinks and we sat on the beach tables, which was really nice. The staff wanted to leave at closing time, but didn't kick us out, just told us to turn the lights off when we left! Would highly recommend 👌

I ate here lots during my trip as my friends were staying here and I was down the road at Coral Sands. Lovely food and amazing staff, thanks for having me.

Got everything you need, although we were in room 18 which is the closest to the bar and it can get a little noisy and when the curtains of the windows are open it has limited privacy from people walking past. The curtains especially by the sliding door could do with cleaning or replacing the mould.
The bar has average food and drinks but does the job and the vibes are good.

Went as a group of 40 & stayed at Castaway. Fantastic accommodation. Beautiful, modern rooms. Cleaned every day. Staff were lovely and keen to always assist. 100% recommend. Easy to get around the island, pretty central to everything.

Great beach bar when bar hopping on the local bus. On the beach, a nice small sandy section just perfect to lay in with a can!
Friendly service and the Ika Mata is up there with the best I tried on the island (& I had plenty)

Castaway is located on the beach to the west of the island, it’s pretty dated and basic, but it is certainly clean and the room service week days is good. We paid for a studio with sea view room and I’m adding the photo so you can see the sea view so you book knowing (room 15 & 16). The breakfast is left in room, continental, so you can supplement with fruit and yoghurt. Best part of this hotel is the castaway bar, Faitz is the best, the food is great there and snorkelling off the beach is also pretty good, it’s a 3 star hotel really.

First night back in Raro thought we would go back to our favourite place on the island. Ordered the seafood platter again & it no longer comes with crayfish yet still costs the same, food tasty.
Decided to visit the place for another meal on boxing day.
Greeted by lovely staff, I ordered the surf & turf meal & my son ordered the steak meal.
Very disappointed with our meals steak was chewy & tough didnt appear to be rib eye as mentioned. Couldnt eat the steak.
My partner on the other hand was happy with his Alfredo.

Having been home now for two weeks, we can't wait to get back to Castaway again. We've already booked again for next year. We absolutely love the place and as this was our seventh stay at Castaway, we regard it as our second home! Castaway prides itself on having the friendliest team on the island and Firaz who manages the beach bar/restaurant couldn't have been more professional and attentive. The food and service is outstanding and the entertainment from the cultural group nights to the individual performers and string band is top class.
If you want a totally relaxing, laid back holiday in comfortable 3 star rooms on the sheltered side of the island with superb food and service from a wonderful beach bar and restaurant, with sunsets to die for, this is for you.

A worthwhile tip — as TV reception on the island is not the best, we take a Tablet on which we have downloaded a heap of movies off Netflix. Great in the evenings after dinner to watch a movie before bed.

We had such a wonderful experience dining at Castaway. We had accidentally booked a large table at Castaways Resort in New Zealand (oops) but we turned up and they managed to accommodate us. Delicious cocktails, great food and music but best of all the view! Firaz was incredibly attentive and entertaining. Thanks so much for looking after us team 🫶

We came here 2 years ago and had the seafood platter which contained crayfish, and was amazing. The atmosphere was also great so came back tonight. I was so looking forward to it. The seafood platter was disgusting. Same price as previous, no crayfish, lots of deep fried seafood, very dry smelly fish and so over priced at 130.00. NEVER going back! I dont usually do a review but So disappointed and worried I will get sick! I would not even give it one star!

We loved this friendly resort. Our units were lovely and we enjoyed our drinks and meals at the bar and restaurant. Firaz welcomed us like old friends every night and we loved the cocktails the bar staff made every night. Especially the dreamlover! Even though we visited a few other establishments we were always happy to return to Castaway! To sit and watch the sunset every night was a treat!

Beautiful location, delicious food. The staff were lovely. Thanks so much to our friend Firaz and the team for your service. You really set the atmosphere. Our rooms were great value for money and we were kindly given a late check out. Not to forget our kind house keeper Grace, ensuring all our needs were accommodated to.

We spent 15 days at Castaway Resort to celebrate our 25th anniversary, and it couldn’t have been more special. Our ocean-view room on the second floor was clean, comfortable, and looked out over the ocean as well as the restaurant and bar area.
Castaway may not be a fancy resort, but it has something even better—wonderful staff who go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The resort has all the basics you need, and the friendliness and warmth of the staff truly make it unforgettable. It’s also great value—you can’t beat the price if you’re not looking for something fancy.
The restaurant is open daily from 2pm to 9pm, with free Wi-Fi and happy hour from 2pm to 6pm. It’s the perfect spot to watch whales, enjoy stunning sunsets, and have a great meal. Don’t miss happy hour—it’s one of the highlights!
When we return to the Cook Islands, we’ll be sure to stay at Castaway again.
