Review of Hotel Zed Victoria 3*

This is our 4th stay at Hotel Zed. We always get a suite as our family of 6 requires the larger accomodations. First of all if you have kids, chances are they'll love this place. That's the reason we keep coming back. The bright colours, cool classic shuttle vans and the pool are always big hits. Rooms have been well kept and clean during all of our stays here. The suites have a kitchenette which is suitable for breakfasts or basic cooking. Things to be aware of, especially if you're new to the Victoria area are that the hotel is a little ways from the main downtown. You will need the shuttle service (which is incredible, be prepared to feel like a celebrity in their vehicles) however it only runs limited hours, even in summer, and has only 1 pickup location downtown. Plan ahead. I found this odd especially since there were 3 of these cool vehicles in the parking lot sitting there most of the time. Love the concept of the lobby being a social area, but it wasn't too inviting to kids, especially with the record player having signs on it asking kids not to touch. Perhaps this an opportunity to introduce a new generation to the old technology. Also the typewriters on all of our visits have been in pretty poor working condition. Again love the idea, but when keys are broken it doesn't really encourage the use of them. Mall accessibility is very nice as it's right across the street. Lastly I didn't find the staff extremely friendly this time around. They weren't rude or anything just didn't find them too interested in talking to me about what we were doing or even if we've stayed there before. No one could recommend a good local spot for pizza for me either, which I'm sure they must get asked about given all the kids that are always staying there. Sorry for the long review. I felt there were some areas that need to be mentioned for improvement, however nothing that will prevent another stay in the future. If you're looking for a reasonably priced place that your kids will love, and provides a different experience from your typical hotels I'd recommend Hotel ZED Victoria.
