Reviews for our stay at the Hotel Champlain in Quebec City
Pros: clean, comfortable and quiet place.
Cons: A glaring lack of security when it comes to stealing items from rooms. We experienced a very unpleasant situation, making sure that we will never recommend this hotel. Intrusion into our room and disappearance of a bottle of wine in the fridge (better laugh) and AirPods headphones (which is far from funny). If you intend to stay there, we strongly suggest that you hide the objects you hold dear, as anyone can enter your room. Of course there are no surveillance cameras in the corridors, which would have allowed us not to pass for thieves.

Bad experience. Management unable to call you back despite phones and emails, customer service a big 0.

Good location, parking on site, super nice employee, comfortable bed, for the price, disappointment of the room, the carpet past date stained and frayed, our window was 6feet from another building with accommodation. Blanket with cigarette hole.

We drove over 8 1/2 hours to this hotel and we knew we made the right decision as soon as we walked in the door. There were four of us and we booked two rooms for three days as we wanted to be central in old Quebec. The location was perfect as it was just close enough to walk to all the major attractions as well as private enough to allow for some down time. The front door staff were extremely accommodating as we arrived early to check in and they allowed us to park the car in their gated parking lot that was attached to the hotel. We got to walk around and figure out what we wanted to see then checked in. Now we originally had booked two rooms with a single double bed but asked to be upgraded to two King size. They made it happen at a very responsible rate. To top it off because we don’t speak French they made us feel at home and answered all questions with patience and gave us a lot of ideas of what to do in Old Quebec. The Director of Operations even visited and dropped off a little welcoming present. To say we were impressed is a understatement. The rooms were fantastic and after walking up and down a few hills the jet tub was a nice touch. From a price standpoint I have paid more and received a lot less service elsewhere. Thank you Hotel Champlain for making Old Quebec City one of my most favourite parts of Canada. After all that has happened in our life with Covid and the death of a few family members we really needed this and you have made some lasting memories.

The Champlain is a nice and reasonably priced hotel in a superb location a few blocks from the Frontenac. It has easy walking access to the major attractions of old Quebec. My room was unexpectedly large and well appointed. The lobby has a lovely area to meet your fellow guests and enjoy the unlimited free coffee and hot chocolate. The buffet breakfast is decent and included in the room price.

Nice Hotel within walking distance of the old city. Quiet spacious rooms with a plentiful buffet breakfast plus an expresso machine for guests! This hotel made for an enjoyable stay with future trips planned!

Nice Boutique Hotel in the very center of Old Quebec. Friendly staff, renovated room. Not spectacular, but great value for business travelers who want to stay away from Hiltons and the like …

Great location for seeing Old Quebec & the staff is super friendly!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit! Your staff was friendly and helpful, particularly since this was our first time in Quebec. The only thing I found odd was the jacuzzi bathtub in the middle of the room. But it was not a significant problem in any way. Thank you for a great stay!

Excellent place! Loved the king suite with kitchen. The breakfast was great and the location is perfect. The staff was so pleasant. We wanted to extend for another night but they were fully booked. Another plus is parking. Will definitely come back to this place.

We had a wonderful stay at your hotel and will recommend it to friends. Your staff was very helpful in particular Cristal and Nicole. We left our passports at your hotel and realized this in Montreal. Both professionals went out of their way to secure a service to transfer our passports to Montreal in a day. We were on the phone with them several times and they followed up to ensure that we recieved our items. It was first class service and we appreciated all that they did for us. Merci, Merci, Merci.

I loved everything about Hotel Champlain! The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the breakfasts were delicious, and the front desk folks were helpful and friendly. The location was perfect as we could walk anywhere! I am looking forward to coming back. Merci!

We were guests at your hotel from July 29-Aug. 2. We couldn't have been more pleased with your lovely hotel. It's very much Old Quebec just as we had hoped it would be. Your staff made us feel welcome from the outset and was quick to respond to any of our requests. Our room, indeed the entire hotel, is very well maintained and absolutely spotless. We also appreciated your efforts to be environmentally friendly in your practices. Le Champlain's central location made it possible to walk everywhere. We would return in a heartbeat.

We were pleasantly surprised when we entered our room for the first time at the size of the room. As a family of four, finding a room with two beds, and plenty of space so that we weren't right on top of each other was a blessing. The bathroom was tastefully modern, the beds were comfortable, and having the mini-refrigerator was a nice touch. Our package included breakfast, which was certainly acceptable, but a bit lacking in fresh fruit. The complimentary coffee was also nice. The onsite parking was another welcome option, especially for Old Montreal. The staff was friendly and helpful whenever we had any questions. I would absolutely recommend, and return if we travel to the area again.

A modern hotel in the historic centre of the city. Prices are average. All the sights are within walking distance.

We really enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious and clean. We had a deluxe queen room. It was close to everything. You could walk everywhere in the old town. Staff at front desk were friendly and helpful. I have no complaints at all. Make sure you book directly with hotel to get the free breakfast.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From the moment we arrived until we left in a taxi, the front desk staff were always pleasant and helpful. The room was surprisingly large, and the sitting area was especially appreciated (after long days of walking around Quebec). The location was perfect for seeing everything in the old city, as well as for access to the main roads.

Lovely hotel downtown. Totally pet friendly, the room was large and inviting, and parking was simple. The breakfast provided was a step above most hotel buffet breakfasts too!

This hotel, I do not recommend it to anyone, the mattress is so lame that you are going to have pain everywhere the next day because of the presence of the hollow in the mattress. Believe me, you are not going to manage to sleep quietly, I did not manage to sleep neither the first, nor the second night and the third night I decided to leave around 19:00.
The only positive thing is: the people at the reception are warm and smiling.
Personally, I will never put my feet again in this hotel!

A really comfortable hotel and the staff is very welcoming; We liked the availability of parking. The location is perfect for strolling on the little Champlain and we went to the Museum of fine Arts on foot, which represented a nice little walk of about twenty minutes. Despite a rather sullen weather, our stay was very pleasant,

The hotel is located in a very good location. The staff were friendly and helpful. The fridge is appreciated. The croissants at brunch lunch and the rest excellent. The service at Jules is slow at lunch and fast at night it's delicious.

This was our second time staying at this hotel. Great location, walking distance to all areas of Vieux Quebec. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Had large room very clean and with character, however there was 2 doors to get into our room, which was surprising, and the outside door would stick, needing two hands to open. We did have free breakfast with our deal and it was fine. However, we did not have hot water our last morning which may have been the repercussion of repairs to pipes a few days before. They were able to get the hot water working within hour or so after reported but unfortunately we were checking out.

We loved the welcome… very courteous and smiling staff and gave very good explanations when we arrived. The room was very spacious and super clean. We were with a couple of friends who was in the next room and we brought the two green chairs and played cards… it was great. You also kept our suitcases on arrival as the room was not ready… normal it was 2:00 pm and when we left until 17:00… I also liked the formula of lunch it was very friendly and delicious… and I take this opportunity to mention that with Our package we were entitled to a 4-course dinner at the Jules Restaurant… Great… it was just delicious… sure you'll see us again in the fall. If you ever had specials for the summer we would like to be notified…

Enjoyed my step, would have preferred all inclusive breakfast, but liked the option of free coffee. Beds and bathroom were clean and nice. Staff was always very friendly and were helpful whenever needed, and was great location for touring the city.

We had a great stay, and are planning to return. Quiet — I had a great sleep! Free coffee, including espresso, in the lobby, and a self-serve wine bar… staff was friendly and helpful, and the location is unbeatable, right in the middle of everything. I parked my car behind the hotel and didn’t see it again until we left. A wonderful couple of days at a character hotel…

We loved our two night stay at your home. The room was very comfortable. I seldom slept well at the hotel! The reception was perfect and we liked the wine bar which offers cider and port as well as all other amenities (coffee, soft drinks, microwave, …). We will revisit you without fail.

Great stay… some problems with not all wine bar selections not available. Breakfast was good for a buffet and the front desk and customer service was amazing. Great location… close to everything but a quiet street.

Our room was very nice and the staff was helpful. We disliked having to use regular keys to unlock the doors rather than a swipe/scan card, that was a bit outdated. We didn't take the breakfast so I can't comment on that. If you book online through a second party site rather than their official site you have to pay for the breakfast so we decided against it. Overall it was a good place for the price paid and the location was pretty central. We will probably book again next time we come.

We had a good stay. The room corresponded well to the photos of the reservation (via booking). Friendly staff Comfortable room. Nice that there was gluten-free bread, but if we could still expand a little the hypo-allergenic breakfast possibilities that would be great!

Very nice location, close to the events of Carnival, fort, shopping, restaurants, and sights. The parking is a bit tight and expensive. The room was pleasant, bed was good, the heat was efficient and quiet. The bathroom was odd, the toilet was small, the paper holder was in the wrong place was hard to reach, the sink basin looked like a bowl… is not my taste as it splashes water on the person and on the vanity top. The glass top sink vanity didn't extend to the walls, and things were dropped between it's top and the wall. So the bathroom is OK but not as good as it could be if the vanity and the bowl were changed. We would stay at this hotel again, based upon location, good breakfast, quiet and comfortable room.

Great location! The rooms were quite spacious and comfy. The service was great. It's a basic hotel that has everything you really need. The staff was very helpful with giving directions to local sights and helped us figure out other stuff (food delivery/takeaway) etc. Would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends!

We visited for Winter Carnival. We arrived by train a bit early, but our room was ready. We were also able to purchase carnival effigies at the desk which made the experience even better. The staff were so helpful and our double room was very cozy with very comfortable beds. My wife and daughter loved the "on-demand" coffee and I loved the wine machine. It has a perfect location for exploring the city on foot — even in very cold weather. We cannot wait to return in warm weather!

Fabulous stay! Absolutely loved it! We were visiting for Carnaval de Québec and found this to be the perfect lodging for our family. The in-room fireplace and hot tub provided a perfect warm end to our cold day. The complimentary coffee and wine vending machine were wonderful perks as well. We'll definitely be back!

Very comfortable stay here over Christmas. The location is close to everything. Plenty to see and do. Suites are very comfortable and reception staff were very helpful. It was great to have breakfast at the hotel each morning and the wine and coffee bar was also good. We achieved our dream of our first ever White Christmas within a magical Christmas Village which was simply picturesque.

Excellent location. Rooms are quirky and modern. They have a great free coffee machine and an inexpensive wine machine. No problems except for the rather erratic elevator. Easy 5 stars!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at Hotel Champlain. The room was large, with a pleasant sitting area and this made it the perfect place to relax in the evenings after a day of sight-seeing around Old Quebec. The room seems to show it's age a little bit, but it was clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was very good, and had a few options for our family who can not eat wheat. The cappuccino maker made beautiful coffee, and it was lovely to have the option to purchase a glass of wine in the evening. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. All in all, we would highly recommend Hotel Champlain.

Loved our stay at Hotel Champlain. While our room was beautiful and our bed super comfortable, and the breakfast amazing, it was really the friendly and helpful staff that made it such a wonderful stay!

We loved our stay in The Loft! Great space… so roomy and beautiful. The kitchen was well stocked and useful. The views were awesome the location was amazing! The beds were a little hard for us but me slept! The futon was really uncomfortable but again, it was usable. The staff was AWESOME… Very responsive and helpful. Breakfast was an issue for me because of food allergies. I wish there were some options that weren't dairy, egg, or wheat! Everything else was wonderful and we want to come back!

We stayed at your hotel because we were joining in-laws who recommended it and we were in adjacent rooms. The rooms were a decent value, but we normally stay at the St. Germain, which is more expensive and much more luxurious. Next visit we're inclined to a room that is superior to your "superior" On the plus side we found your location to be more central and more appealing. Of the negatives, that room had a tiny bathroom with a midget toilet. And I couldn't reach the toilet paper dispenser without dislocating my shoulder. Overall we had a pleasant stay in your pleasant city.

We love the place and the location was amazing. Valet parking was great and they were very accommodating in storing our luggage after check-out. My only complaint is that I had specified there would be one couple and 2 singles staying, but there were no sheets provided for the couch. Otherwise all was fantastic. The breakfast and the gourmet coffee machine were great! Thanks so much! We would definitely stay again, hopefully for a longer time next visit!

The only thing that was a bit of a negative was the maid service. One day they came so late we were back in our room after a long day of walking tourism and they did not come in. We needed towels changed so they just handed them to us through the door and we had to hand them our used towels. The next day I asked for our room to be cleaned and it was. Then the day after that they did not come at all. But the following day they did again. There was no credit to our account because of this lack of service even though if you request no service (which we did not) you would get a credit. That was a minor thing overall compared to the great location the hotel was in. We stayed for 5 nights and were able to walk everywhere we needed. They kept our luggage for a few hours while we waited for our departure time and they called a taxi for us. Good service that way. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay which was in celebration of her 21st birthday. I hope to come again with my husband sometime and we will more than likely stay at your hotel again — because of the terrific location.

Room 34. I would change the layout. We slept with the window open so as not to look direct on us. I'll put the rest area by the window and the bed closer to the door. For one night it's OK, but if I had to spend several days, I would choose another room because of the view of the brick wall which is disappointing. Also, it's quite noisy in the evening and for the night when the window stays open.

+: welcoming staff. Breakfast quite complete, coffee maker at disposal 24/24 free of charge and wine distributor paying. Very good location in the heart of Old Quebec. Possibility of parking for about $25 a day.
—: The soundproofing of the room 216 (small house adjacent in the hotel) is really to be reviewed. We felt the windows were open as the outside noise was present in the room. The footsteps of the room at the top are also quite annoying.

For a short stay, very nice hotel because you spend very little time. For a long stay I would feel rather cramped. I would also have liked to have the opportunity to have a coffee or tea in the room without having to go to the reception to look for one. So adding a small coffeemaker to the room would not be superfluous.

Overall, we had a great stay. The room was comfortable and the location was fantastic. We really enjoyed the 24/7 coffee machine. We would definitely stay here again. Things that could be improved: I do wish the bathroom had better ventilation as it felt like the towels never fully dried. Also, I think having a weighted shower curtain liner that is made of vinyl (or another water resistant material) would better help avoid spills in the bathroom.

Hotel very well placed in Old Quebec, in a quiet street but close to shops and restaurants.
I find the breakfast room is too small if at the time you are having lunch there is trouble getting easy access to the buffet otherwise the waffles are a very good idea and the diversity of the breakfast is very good.
The hotel staff is very welcoming and gave us several tips for sightseeing and restaurants.
The room was spacious, the only problem being the noise coming from the bathroom of the other rooms which was still quite annoying at night, to see if it was just our room.

We loved our stay at Hotel Champlain. My husband came across this hotel while searching for a place with a jacuzzi tub and fireplace in the room as a surprise romantic two-night getaway. He was sold when some of the reviews mentioned the croissants (my absolute favorite pastry) at breakfast. Hotel Champlain’s beautiful and spacious junior suites do indeed have both a jacuzzi tub and a fireplace for a very reasonable price. Our room also had a lovely walk-in shower and a good… view of the city. We also enjoyed the breakfast (including the croissants), which is free for customers who book through the hotel’s website directly. All members of the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed chatting with Pierre, the valet, and Roseanne at the front desk. The only suggestions we have to offer would be larger and thicker bath towels and/or bathrobes and in-room coffee machines. We didn’t mind running downstairs to use the espresso machine in the lobby and bringing coffee back to our rooms, but it would have been even nicer to have the ability to make coffee in our room. We loved our stay in Quebec, and plan to be back. Hotel Champlain is at the top of our list to stay for our next trip and we will certainly recommend this hotel to others.

When we have the opportunity to go in Old Quebec, we stop still at the Hotel Champlain. It is well located, the breakfast is included, there is a valet service for parking and the staff is friendly. In addition, you have right for a price privilege when you returned more than once. Breakfast is very good, buffet style, and full.

The Hotel Champlain has quite good rooms. Very spacious, and the beds are comfortable. During my stay the hotel was undergoing renovations, however these did not impact the stay.

Location was great. Rooms were very clean. Hotel was overall great. Very quiet. Don't need a car to travel around, all in walking distance. They have parking in the back at $20 a night. Slow elevator but that's okay. Nice and friendly staff. I liked my stay. No complaints here!

Excelent night's stay! We had a view of frontenac and the rear courtyard. Great big king bed, in-room fireplace, and very friendly staff. A hidden gem in downtown old Quebec. Walking distance vrom the garriaon, hundreds of cafes and restaurants and the Frontenac. Two thumbs up.

Hidden Gem! Wonderful, smaller hotel. My daughter and I traveled alone to Quebec City and we always felt safe at Hotel Champlain. Staff took time to get to know us and answer all our questions in English. The beds were super cozy. Our room had an ambient fireplace which added to the quaint atmosphere. Our room as well as the hotel is very clean. The hotel is centrally located within the wall which was especially important during February weather. The location allows for a quick walk to shops, dining, and sight-seeing even to lower town using the funicular. This is not a fancy, uppity hotel. We would say it has a "down home" atmosphere which met our needs. We would definitely stay here again.

Very good hotel. Clean, somewhat renovated room (had king bed room with kitchenette), great breakfast, garage parking, nice cozy lobby with amazing espresso machine. 5 min walk to everything since its in the very center. Not fancy or luxury hotel but I have zero complains and would stay here again. Castle was booked by the way, but I heard its overrated, was packed and loud when we went inside for a peak. Didn't like that.

This place was the best. Amazing staff, beautiful hotel room and great breakfast. This quaint spot is right in old Quebec and is walking distance from some great bars and fantastic food. I wish I could give it more than five stars.

Had a wonderful stay at the Minto Suite Hotel last weekend. Excellent, courteous service. The staff was friendly. Our suite was clean and beautiful. The continental breakfast was so delicious. Overall, an excellent experience.

When you walk in the staff is very friendly, the decoration of the hotel and rooms has a warm home feel to it. The room was very nice and did not feel like a hotel, it has a modern yet historic look. Free Wi-Fi internet, Flat Screen TV, DVD Player, Fridge, and clean. The night was comfortable, and morning breakfast was very nice, Scrambled Eggs with lots of flavour, toast, fresh squeezed juice, yogurt,. Just like home. The breakfast area has lots of natural sunlight and beautifully decorated with crystal chandelier and fireplace. The added nice touch was the proximity to everything in old Quebec City and the very nice Espresso, Cappuccino and coffee machine in the lobby open all the time. Parking is limited and for a fee, not bad compared to surrounding hotels just needs a Gym/Fitness room but there are plenty within walking distance and there is lots of outdoor activities.

The friendly hotel is characterised by stylish and charming stylish facilities that create a very special flair. The staff seems very relaxed, accommodating and wonderfully straightforward. Also, the buffet breakfast is rich.
We have booked through a tour operator and had no chance in the room. Sure, that is depending on category. Point out I want but that there are rooms with super views. Very central and yet quiet. Parking lots are some, can be close.
