Le Merrill - Vieux Montréal

Comfortable and well located place. Flat was very large and spacious. Beds incredibly comfy and large with good pillows. Towels provided in the bathrooms. Kitchen well equipped. I think the only thing I found missing was hand soap (plenty of shampoo and body lotion in the bathroom but nothing labelled hand soap for washing hands).
You could hear noise from the hallway in the flat surprisingly well but as people were not really in the hallway a lot it was not a big issue.

I booked this spot on Airbnb the reviews were much different. When I plugged in the address to Google Maps all these poor reviews came up and I got really apprehensive about my stay here. I reached out the hose explaining my concerns seen in these reviews and he answered all my questions and gave me a little piece of mind before arriving.
I stayed in room 205 and I gotta say i’m a little confused by the reviews here. Keep in mind these pictures were taken 1 day into my trip, so the bed made isn’t made up how they usually do it and my stuff is out but the place was fine? It’s not a 5 star hotel obviously but in my experience it wasn’t this mice ridden, roach infested mess these reviews make it out to be… Everything was very clean: fridge, under the sink, the shower. All fine. I saw a housekeeper working hard in other rooms multiple times through my stay. Bathroom was well stocked, and everything was in order. Couch was a little dingy but I always take one of the extra sheets from the bed and throw it on the couch anyways during my stay.
I don’t usually write reviews unless I feel very strongly about a place and I felt like the reviews on here did not accurately describe my stay.

Overall a very nice place for the price. Beautiful apartment, well located at a midpoint between the east and west ends of the Old Montreal area, making it easy to explore the area.
Apartment was clean. Beds & pillows were comfy. Towels soft and fluffy.
Concerns:
-window to fire escape was screwed shut with L-brackets. What if there was a fire by the front door or hallway? How would we get out?
-communication was not good. There’s no staff. I sent many messages to the property using the chat within the Expedia app. No response. I called the number and the guy said he would get right back to me. He never did : (
Fortunately we didn’t have anything requiring urgency (like a lost room key), can’t imagine how a matter like that would be handled with no staff and poor communication channels.
-apartment could use some minor maintenances and repairs (water damage to baseboards in bathroom, scuffed walls, light bulbs not working). This stuff didn’t bother us, but if you are particular, it might be an issue.
Overall a very nice place for the price.

I have no idea where the nasty reviews came from, because our experience was great. First, the communication with the host was very prompt and informative. We had no problems with checking in on line, detailed instructions came as expected, the lockbox was easy to use, everything as promised. It is not really a "hotel" because the check in is airbnb-style, but the description on the website is accurate.
The apartment was exactly like in the pictures, very spacious, with well equipped kitchen. Yes you need to bring your own food including coffee, but what do you expect? Fully stocked fridge?! There was paper towel and toilet paper, soap and shampoo, plenty of towels. The apartment was spotlessly clean. We had a room with 3 double beds, one was behind a screen and not really isolated but still giving some privacy. The ceiling lights were not working in this small semi-room but there was a lamp, so it was not a problem. All other lights were fine. True to previous complaints, there were no curtains in the windows but the blinds worked very well, so how could this be a problem? The furniture was new, beds very comfortable. Maybe the pillows were on firms side, but that's the matter of personal preference.
There was one amusing twist, the coat closet was so high that we could hardly hang our coats! I am 5'10 and my husband is 6'2, I don't know how shorter persons could manage.

Overall this was a good stay. Our unit was clean and stocked with towels, hand towels, soap & shampoo, dish soap, dish sponge and garbage bags. We were pleasantly surprised after seeing bad reviews on Google.
Pretty good value for the location — close to the old city and downtown and only a few subway stops from other cool areas.
Getting the building and room key lock-box codes took some reaching out, and a little bit of anxiety — management did not proactively send this info 24 hours beforehand. But once we got in, all was warm and nice.

At first glance this place was awesome. I thought it totally didn't deserve the rating. Unfortunately once we sat down we started noticing things.
Like no coffee maker even though it was advertised (this was of great importance to us). No paper towels or napkins or kitchen towel if we needed to clean something up. Speaking of towels… no towel rack, hook or hanger to be found. It was rather awkward.
The lighting was very awkward as well. Cheap floor lamps were scattered around and only some of the ceiling lights worked.
Another thing that did not work was the tv. It wasn't the remote either.
There were 2 small bistro tables for eating/working surfaces and 4 table chairs. The Internet was consistently good. The street noise was low.
Lounging surfaces were these funky floor lounge chairs with backs attached by ropes.
The beds were very comfortable and clean with nice pillows. The whole apartment was very clean so that was nice. The location was amazing. Walking distance to everything and an amazing pizza place right across the street. Seriously fantastic pizza! Also I loved that it was overtop a Christmas store.
This place has so much potential to be amazing with just a little bit more attention to detail.

Our room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable. The location is great for walking around Old Town and the port. When we visited there was not any on street parking. There is not a microwave. There is a washer and dryer. Some lamps would have made it a little nicer — the overhead lighting was too much. Large windows give lots of natural light during the day, but also lots of light from the street spills into the bedroom.

Perfect location, comfortable, spacious, clean and good communication. No noise. Dish soap, body wash/soap and shampoo was provided. No microwave. Bed was comfortable. One privacy blind was broken.
Traveled with partner. We did not used our car. Everything was close but on our last night we saw a little mouse run through!

We stayed one night in apartment 201. It was okay for a short stay. The location is great and the beds were comfortable. We had no issues with the self check-in and received all the information about 24 hours in advance.
Some areas could use improvement: it wasn’t clear ahead of time that there’s no on-site parking, some lights in the apartment didn’t work and it made it quite dark, and the bathroom needed a much more thorough cleaning. The upper walls were dusty and the shower walls and glass had visible pink buildup. With more attention to these details, this place could be much better.

This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had on any trip. The communication was terrible — they didn’t send me the code to enter until I contacted them myself, only 20 hours before our arrival.
When we arrived, our assigned room hadn’t even been cleaned. The bedding was messy, towels were on the floor, and the smell was awful. We were moved to another room, but the floor was still dirty with hair everywhere, and the towels looked so dark and worn that I questioned if they had been properly washed at all.
The entire environment felt unhygienic and unpleasant. The blinds couldn’t be opened because every window faced a brightly lit construction site that stayed on all night. No parking nearby — we had to pay extra for valet parking at another hotel.
Noise was another huge problem. I could clearly hear toilets flushing in other units. The hallway and elevator smelled so strongly of something artificial it gave me a headache.
Absolutely not worth the money — disgusting and uncomfortable from start to finish.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!
The only good thing about this so called “hotel” is the location. Everything you need is within walking distance which is the reason I booked it. I had friends stay here last year and they had a pleasant stay, but I’ve been here for only 2.5 hours and want to leave.
Even though it’s listed in their amenities (I was told they’ve put in a request on Expedia to have their listing reflect their current room amenities) THERE ARE NO TOILETRIES OR HANDSOAP! You call yourselves a hotel, charge nearly $400 for a one bedroom “premium” loft, and don’t even have basic amenities or stopped providing them? There is nothing premium about this room. I’m appalled. The bed? It’s a weak, squeaky spring mattress covered in a sheet that feels like a shower curtain, and placed on the hardest bed frame of the century. The shower? Riddled with sealant mold, and likely because the fan doesn’t work. The fridge? It doesn’t close all the way. In fact, it keeps opening so slightly and the fridge alarm doesn’t work. Some of the rubber stops on the glass shelves easily pop off. We got all of 2 towels and were told “we don’t provide extra towels. ”
The room was relatively clean upon arrival. No roach sightings like others have mentioned.
Replies through Expedia were quick, but not exactly helpful (ie. Amenities request)
If I wasn’t here for a music festival and didn’t plan on sleeping much, or had to spend more than the two nights here, I would be devastated.

Myself and 2 friends booked accommodation here via Air BnB, not realizing it was a "hotel. " The reviews on ABnB were almost all positive, which when contrasted with the reviews on Google, leads me to believe there's some review tampering going on.
The room itself is clean (thank goodness), quiet, and well-situated, but that's where the compliments end. Some parts seem a bit ill-maintained (the stovetop is cracked, the bathroom fan doesn't work, the mechanism to open the window is broken), but I'm honestly not all that bothered about that.
Our main issue is the absolute lack of present customer service and amenities. One of the beds is missing a duvet. There is also no hand soap or shampoo/conditioner, which are noted on the ABnB listing as included amenities. Most egregiously, there was no extra toilet paper! There was 1/3 of the current roll at check in, and nothing extra. When we messaged the "host" through ABnB, we were told that they "don't provide soap and shampoo, " which is honestly pretty wild. Shampoo, fine (ignoring that it was listed), but no HAND SOAP? Guests are expected to run around with dirty hands unless they buy their own hand soap? They said they would send someone to provide the missing duvet and toilet paper, but they did not. We even spotted cleaning staff on our way out for the day, but evidently they were not instructed to fix the problem.

Lowkey was afraid since seeing all the negative reviews. But my friend and I really enjoyed our stay! It was clean and aesthetic!
Although the AC was in the living room and was hard for the air to come inside the bedroom. Other than that it was fantastic!

Avoid at ALL Costs: Disgraceful Property and Even Worse Service.
This was hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had with a property, a complete disaster from start to finish. The only redeeming feature is the location, and that’s where the positives end.
From the moment we arrived, the issues started piling up. There were no batteries in the TV remote, the shower was filthy with mould, the tap head looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months, and the toilet and bathroom fittings were literally falling apart. But shockingly, none of that was the worst part.
The bed was completely broken and unusable unless you want a very sore back. After a late check-in on the first night, we discovered it was impossible to sleep properly, with the mattress sinking heavily in the centre as if it had been slept on for years without replacement. I reported this to management first thing the next morning about 7-8am. Their response? A confusing mess of contradictory updates: first saying nothing was wrong, then claiming it had been fixed – all without any communication until 4am, and again at 5pm. What kind of operation is this?
Spoiler alert: the bed was never fixed. I returned to check after being told it was resolved, only to find the same broken frame and sagging mattress. I even sent photo evidence of a completely snapped slat. Nothing was done. No apology, no solution, no accountability.

If I could give zero stars, I would. The moment I stepped into the room, I saw a roach on the counter near the stove. I opened the cabinets and found several small roaches inside. To make matters worse, the bed wasn’t even fully made. I contacted the host, who offered to move me to a different room—but with fewer beds than I originally booked. Why is this room even being rented out if there’s a roach problem? I didn’t wait around to find out more. I was there for less than five minutes before I left and checked into a nearby hotel. Don’t waste your time booking this place—there are plenty of nearby hotels at similar prices that are far cleaner and more comfortable.

We only saw the reviews here after booking it on booking. Com. We messaged the host for a refund 1 day before the stay but he refused and said the questions in the reviews are all addressed. Out of our expectations, all the problems were indeed addressed. All the transactions were no contact, which I found to be a plus b/c I don’t like to deal with people. The room we stay in was very aesthetic like the photos, it was clean, no broken things, no visible roaches, necessary amenities were fully equipped, good location, not to mentioned the room was very spacious compared to other hotels. Overall, it was a comfy experience for us.

I, my brother and father, were visiting Montreal for a weekend trip and booked this hotel for two nights. We get there, and the door is unlocked, so we don't think to look for a key. Later on, it turns out there isn't one in the lockbox. We called, emailed, and messaged them. Not only were we missing a key, but there was no blanket on one of the beds. They (after almost five hours) replied about the blanket. However, asked which key we were referring to. They stated they would look into getting us an emergency key. However, after having returned at nearly nine pm, there was nothing in the lockbox. The door is locked, and we have been left on hold for the previous forty minutes. Their customer service is horrible, and the fact there is NO KEY says plenty. The condition of the room was alright, generally clean with little issues if we exclude the missing blanket. We just managed to get in contact with them, yet only shortly after the call began, it ended as the other end disconnected.
To sum up my review, there was no key, a missing blanket, and God awful customer service. It has been more than a day since we had contacted the owner and have barely received a single response.
In NO world would I recommend this apartment. Absolutely NOTHING about this experience proved positive. Frankly, had I been given the option, this review would have been left alongside zero stars. This experience deserved not even one.
Edit: I forgot to mention, but there is no lock on the bathroom door.
