Alt Hostel

Pros:
Locks on doors to dorms, location was amazing, free use of washing machine, decent kitchen, cleanliness, staff was kind, blankets available for use as you're only given a sheet for sleeping.
Cons:
Mattresses are very thin, thin walls you can hear stomping all throughout the night, no curtains on beds for privacy, pictures do not show what your actual bathrooms and showers look like so its not false advertising per say but its a misrepresentation of the actual facilities.

Very clean, extremely funny and friendly staff (shout out to Issac, he's an absolutely hilarious, iconic individual and is always a joy to see! ) I appreciate how compared to other hostels it is fairly easy to get time alone but can also be very social if you want. Have met so many wonderful people here. Also there free coffee and tea all day which is a nice bonus. The reason give 4 stars for the room rating is the beds are a little bit uncomfortable and the upper bunks can be tricky to get up into but otherwise I have no complaints!

Had a great stay in that hostel. Absolutely great location especially if you like cheap Asian food as the China Town is super close. St-Laurent and St-Denis streets are close so you just have to walk them up to get to some of my favourite parts of town.
Shout out to Isaac at the front desk, as he handled a weird situation involving me and another guest very professionally. Staying in dorms can be tricky sometimes, but it was not the hostel’s fault in the first place.
My suggestion to the management though would be that instead of jam packing the dorms, maybe open more dorms so it is more quiet in everyone of them, and to disperse the people a bit. I know that it’s not the best for cleaning, but everyone would be more cozy.
Overall, I would recommend.

Starting for the location, it's the best, just in front of Bonsecours Market, few minutes walking from a metro station and most of the touristic sites in Old Montreal.
The staff are very friendly and helped me with everything I needed since before arriving in Canada.
The female dorm is spacious and quite, the toilets and showers were always clean.
They offer an equiped kitchen were you can prepare your own meals as you like.
The hostel has a very nice emvironment and it's definitely a place we're you can make new friends.
I really recommend it.

Close to metro and busses, lots to do in walking distance. Beds are comfortable and all have power outlets. Good showers and washrooms. The staff are also really helpful with any questions and can give you suggestions on what to do and they also organize a poutine night every Monday (shout-out to Ramón and Cass for a great stay and helping with any questions I had! )

Very convenient location, kind and helpful staff, and the other guests were friendly as well! The kitchen was very useful for preparing meals, and people are very prompt about cleaning their dishware for everyone else to use. I would say that earplugs and a sleep mask are useful in the dormitories, though, since many people come and go at different times of night.

Great location, super friendly staff and easy to get pretty much anywhere via the metro. Rooms are clean, sheets are clean and for the most part everyone sharing rooms are polite and respectful of each other. My wife and I had a great time staying here. The surrounding area and buildings are beautiful. Ramon was a boss and got us set up. He was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

What a great place! So well run, very social but also calm and relaxing environment. Feel like a home away from home. Clean and well kept. Ramon was an excellent host — very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable 😊
Glad we stayed here, would come back.

I really enjoyed my stay here! This was my first time ever staying in a hostel and I felt very safe with the key code requirements. Many thanks to Isaac and Lamine.
The 24-hour front desk was so helpful with Laura, Meagan, Ramon, Morgan, Sabina, Cassandra, Alice and Alex!
I stayed in a shared dorm and the bathroom cleanliness was surprisingly good (thanks, Angie! ).
Cam's poutine was great — make sure to stay at least one Monday! Being able to do laundry during my stay was SO great.
I docked a single point from location because it is a bit of a walk to the nearest station. Honestly, if every hostel is this nice, I may never stay in a hotel again.

My experience was awful especially with the front desk the two ladies that work there are a way far from being professional, so rude and even yell at individuals. They gave us wrong beds and when I did my check out before my friend who was staying longer period than me, they broke up his locker and dumped his belongings in the luggage room, without taking his permission then when I intended to find out why because he was out of the hostel and I was checking out, they started yelling at me being racist by calling me (you people) and they didn’t even give me a chance to explain or understand why they did that.
I don’t recommend this hostel as there are plenty of more professional hotels around the area, this hostel is cheap for a reason.

This place is really nice. Its clean and comfortable. I would say that the bed situation is hard because if your a tall person and require more space to move around take a top bunk. Customer service is great. Morgan was super helpful with my reservation. Ramon was super nice. Kitchen use if you want to make your own meals. Coffee and tea in the morning. I beleive there's also bread but not sure. No shoes allowed past a certain point. You will see the sign. I actually love this. The area is literally close to everything. Super convenient. Will stay here for my next short stay.

This is by far THE WORST HOSTEL I’ve ever stayed at. All 3 nights were a nightmare, and I never managed to sleep for more than 2 hours in a row.
1. The hostel is directly above & next to Maison Saint Paul restaurant, which turns into a NIGHTCLUB at night. The music is unbelievably loud – even earplugs don’t help – and the whole building literally shakes. When I asked at reception, they said this is “normal on weekends & that the music stops at 3 am” so there’s nothing they can do. None of this is mentioned anywhere on the website! I noticed that several other guests also complained.
I contacted the manager by email and only received a very brief reply with little understanding and no goodwill or courtesy. I was quickly dismissed without any real effort to address the issue.
2. The other guests were extremely INCONSIDERATE – loud, disrespectful, stomping through the hallways at all hours so you hear every single step (I wonder why the reception doesn't point out upon arrival or put up signs saying "please don't stomp. ").
3. My pillow smelled. I'm sure it wasn't freshly made. The duvets are just thin blankets. The kitchen is way too small for the number of guests. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting.
If you’re looking for a pleasant stay, do yourself a favor and spend a little extra money somewhere else. I would never recommend this hostel!

I have been here since 2 weeks and I enjoy it so much! The staff is so kind, especially Ramon welcomed me so nicely, when I arrived very late on the evening! The hostel is directly in Old Montreal and there is much to do around. In general it gives a very “I feel well “ feeling! I would definitely come back!

This hostel is welcoming, respectful, clean, and in a great location. I was glad I had ear plugs and an eye mask, however. The restaurant next door sometimes has loud music on the weekends, which isn’t the hostel’s fault. I loved Old Montreal. I also appreciated all the front desk employees, especially Ramon, Sabina, Meghan, and Laura.

I had a fantastic stay at this hostel! The atmosphere was welcoming, clean, and perfect for both relaxing and meeting new people. What really stood out was the service — Ramon went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. From check-in to giving helpful tips about the city, he was friendly, professional, and genuinely cared about the guests. Thanks to him, my experience felt more personal and enjoyable.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for great value, comfort, and excellent service.

Highly recommend this hostel. GREAT location! GREAT staff. We'll maintained and managed. Loved our stay there. Bathrooms and toilets designed appropriately for privacy and maintained very well.
Ramon was very helpful signing us in. Simple, direct, and clear communication. No unnecessary layers of communication or procedures — excellent process management.

This hostel is wonderful. Clean facilities, staff is amazing (Meaghan, Claire, Ramón, Morgan, Sabina, Isaac, Lamine, Angelica), great atmosphere and it is located super close to the Old Port! The kitchen is fully equipped and the beds have a lamp, a power outlet and are comfortable, too. The common area is a place where it’s easy to meet and connect with others, I have met a lot of lovely people there!
