Résidences UQAM Ouest Guesthouse

I live in one of the ground floor studios in UQAM-Ouest. The only window in this studio overlooks Saint-Urbain street, which is busy day and night. The glass of this window is not reflecting. My room is totally visible to people in the street. Few of people are honestly so rude. They stop and knock my window even when I am sleeping at the midnight. Some do hearts for me by their hands, some scream I love you and some do other stupid actions. It is exactly like living in the street, no privacy at all! I blame the designer and my request is for the administration, please change the window glass of these studios by reflecting one!

Rooms poor and excessively expensive given the space.

As a student residence I do not recommend this place. In life in general, I am a person with a lot of patience. However, after an unforeseen departure from UQAM, I contacted the personal to cancel my lease as it is possible in most student residences following a departure from the school. The personal of the establishment told me to give proof of non-registration and that I could leave the same evening, without paying the rent of the following month. So that same evening, I hastened to move. The next week, another member of the personal contacted me to say that I had not paid my rent and that I had to pay for it, otherwise they would report me to the Régie du Logement. I then had to pay the rent, and they even refused to pay a refund to be part of the establishment before the date of the end of the lease, as they do for departures before the month of May. In short, an establishment that I do not recommend for all students. Despite the location close to the city centre, on the UQAM Science campus, a student would be better off to find an apartment.

The customer service is poor. The warden talks to you like you're his employee. The other employees and maintenance people talk to you in the same way and you look at the eighth note. A little more and they send us shit while asking us to pay!

Too messy. Super uncomfortable bed (and dirty) The tiniest sink, can't fit 2 hands not even talking about washing faces. Showed too small u can't even vent to wash it feet/ will bump ur head on the wall/ only straight standing up position. And have to pay for parking. 24 dollars.

Terrible place to stay. Place was super dusty, I had to wipe off the tables and walls as clumps of dust were floating around everywhere. No air conditioning in summer time, and the front desk didn't have any extra fans! Front desk was super unhelpful and pretty rude about it. Cheap place to stay but not worth any amount of money.

Staff are friendly and good but the manager is a real jerk, he refuses the simplest requests that don't cost a single thing "just because".

I do not advise this residence to anyone. The building is cold, lifeless. When I went to my room I realized that there was still dust and junk to the old roommate under the furniture, I understood after changing roommate that there is no inspection on the part of the staff, the apartment is given in the state. I have stolen several garments this is neither normal nor hygienic nor acceptable for students. And there's better on Montreal value for money.

The shower is way too small, there is no place or put the soap, the shampoo bottles, so you have to put these things out of the shower and shut it down every time you want something.
The sink is too small, there is no room.
The fridge of the Multi 4 is standard size, so we have a tablet each, there is no room so you have to constantly go to the grocery store. Forget to make large batches of food, because you cannot freeze it when you share a mini freezer at 4.
The beds are single beds for the students while the summer in hostel is a double bed. I am unable to sleep in a single bed because I move so I spend my time waking up in order to avoid falling down my bed. The mattress is very hard, I recommend to buy a thick memory foam, otherwise it's like sleeping on the floor.
It's very dirty, the underside of the furniture is stained with filth, the walls are white stained everywhere.
Positive: Big Pantry, storage under the beds, the residence is very well located, usually one has easy access to the washing machines.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Some employees are nice I'll give you that, but some of them are rude and make you feel like you're disturbing them. I lived there two years and they had recurring cockroaches issues and took weeks to get rid of the problem. Some employees will even scream at you if you ask them something. Do not get fooled by the price, there is a reason it is low and to be honest, even such a low price as this is expensive for what you're getting there.

Positives:-The rooms are good. Personally I was fortunate to stumble upon a relatively decent studio with a nice view. I'm lucky. Not everyone has that chance.
Negative Points: — I had to make a big cleaning when I arrived. It was awfully dirty.
— The employees at the reception are sometimes very rude to the tenants.
It's noisy. We hear everyone passing through the hallway.
— The other tenants are a real nightmare. They deliberately make noise: it screams, it sings, it hits the walls after 11:00.
— The employees at the front desk do absolutely nothing to prevent this. No one responds when I call to report the noise.
— Wi-Fi is extremely slow and sometimes even impossible to use. I had to buy a router to plug it into the wall. The Wi-Fi of the residence is mediocre.
— The price of the rooms ($580) is very high considering what we have: small bathroom (with shower only), small kitchen (some wardrobe, a sink, 2 round stove and a very small refrigerator), a dresser, a single bed, a work desk and a small e kitchen table with a chair.
— Lack of intimacy. If an employee knocks on your door, but you do not answer, for some reason (for example: you are in the shower), he unbars your door and allow himself to enter anyway. I find it completely inappropriate.
— water takes several minutes before it becomes hot: 3 to 5 minutes.
Honestly, I would not spend more than a year here.

Very bad experience, the staff is never aware of anything and gives bad information, poorly soundproofed building, noisy, but however the place is clean (at least) … The lady at the office answered me silly and she had a bad attitude. More on the phone I was kept waiting online more than 45 minutes!

Good-looking cherti. Perfect to spend a week coming to work. It is true that it is not at all like the hotel services. But the room is well appointed.

I'm not going to go into too much detail but I lived here for 5 weeks. The service was slow and usually useless. In emergency situations they lacked any common sense or training. But it's better then sleeping on the streets I suppose. The building constantly smelt like pee and some morning walking around the building you dodge poop and vomit from the St Laurent crowd. The rooms were tiny with little to no outlets working. The beds consisted of 1 blanket and a sheet with really flat pillows. Room was absolutely too hot 90% of the time. The fridge died on us once and a lot of food was spoiled. The utensils are clearly not bought from uqam as they are the lost and found from past years. The washing machines don't work well and the dryers might dry a sock or two but I had to run loads twice every time. It's close to all the action downtown so that was nice considering there were so many festivals but that's Montreal nothing to do with this place. There are homeless people that stay just north and south of the res that you see daily and like to harass people walking by. The showers take 10 minutes to warm up so a cold shower is a go to in a rush. Also we had a party one night as it is a college residence and one of the staff members walked in unannounced and threatened to call the cops with no real reasons as it was before 11pm on a weekend. Most likely would hop onto Airbnb and find any better location for cheaper.

It was a good experience last minute trip. Would stay here again.

There was no hot water in my shower, the sink stopper was jammed in the closed position, and the light in the room was broken. A very loud gurgling sound also constantly came from the wall. Even though I filed a maintenance request on my first day, none of these issues were resolved during my stay. The fridge was also not only broken, but somehow warmer than room temperature. Avoid at all costs.

Une véritable MERDE. Une pure et simple merde.

Barebones room for a barebones price. You get what you pay for. These rooms are dorm rooms re-purposed as hotel rooms during the summer. Our room was tiny (and the bathroom tinier), the bed was hard, the pillows were very flat, the towels were tiny, there's no air conditioning, and there's no maid service. However, the room had a nice desk, free wired internet (no Wi-Fi), a mini-fridge and stove, and plenty of storage space. Best of all, it put us literally a block away from the Montreal Jazz Festival and a Metro station for a tiny fraction of the price of other nearby hotels. It was also walking distance from shops and restaurants in Chinatown and Plateau Mont-Royal. The room would get pretty hot during the day, but between the ceiling fan installed in the room and a box fan that we brought with us we were able to get it to a comfortable temperature for sleeping. There is no maid service, but you can bring your linens down to the front desk to exchange them for clean ones. They don't have their own parking lot, but there is a UQAM garage nearby that charges CA$24/day (or CA$30 total if you lose your ticket).
