The hotel was in a really convenient location, in the heart of the Gay Village, so there was always alot going on in this area. The rooms were also really nice and clean, however most of the outlets didn't work, so we had to use outlets behind the bed and in the bathroom. This made it hard to turn on the lamps and be able to get a bunch of girls ready on time.

Terrible. The rooms are very old. The rooms smell like mold from the carpet. Don't waste your money! We don't even have a mini bar! When I asked for a fridge they told me that some rooms have it & some rooms don't. If you want a fridge its $20 extra. When we left in this morning house keeping was were cleaning our floor, but for some strange reason they forgot our room. They made our bed @ 430pm on Sunday afternoon. They didn't give us fresh new towels & soap. When I went to ask @ front desk they didn't care. They said that house keeping starts @ 8:00am to 8:00pm. That doesn't make sense… who makes a bed & take out the garbage @ 445pm. Anyways, I should have listen to the other reviews. Don't waste your time & money.

The hotel is very well located! It's connected to a large mall, where you can find everything you need. The hotel is clean, clean sheets, comfortable beds, but it does not look like a 4 star hotel! Looks old-fashioned, man, it lacks maintenance. We got a room down the hall and all night we hear a noise, like a bomb or something. If you have light sleep, you won't be able to rest! The staff is friendly.

A convenient location in the city centre. The room has no refrigerator. The hotel has a swimming pool. The price includes a breakfast buffet. The staff are friendly.

My time at this place is coming to an end. Overly disappointed. I’ll start with the positives. The location is great. The proximity to the Metro and the park across the street is ideal. The rest is not. I can only describe the Devore throughout the hotel, and especially our room, as tired. The wallpaper is peeling, the curtains are old, and the furniture is mediocre. The beds are the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced in a hotel. There is mildew in the shower. It looks as if the shower hasn’t been properly scrubbed in a year. Speaking of the bathroom… why is there only one towel rack? Why is there no hand towels? Or washcloths? I’d love to hang my towel and reuse it, but there is no space. Also, most of the outlets in our room don’t work. Out of the 8 outlets, only three work. Thankfully, both work in the bathroom. The TV remote didn’t work either. There is no safe or fridge or any such amenities. In addition, you can hear everything around you. People walking above you the surrounding rooms, and every time the room above is used the water the pipes make a horrendous screeching. I had to wear earplugs each night just to sleep through the din. The breakfast buffet was a tasteless heap of monotony. A fair amount of salt, pepper and hot sauce was need to make it palatable. And there is no variety. It is exactly the same every morning. The hotel has no bar. I was disappointed, but can see that others may not care.

One of the worst experience in a long time. A room that overlooks the park where shows are taking place while I was there for work. Infernal noise from the ventilation of the bathroom, the air in the pipes that causes a sound of hell as soon as someone uses the shower. A dusty carpet that smells bad. No Washcloths or hand towels. And staff members clearly unhappy because extremely silly, I felt like disturbing them.

Very dirty, bad service, not worth more than 2 stars.

The rooms would need serious renovations as the décor is outdated (genre 1998), the bathrooms are completely archaic, with a bathtub that takes a long time to fill up, sink faucets that rumble. Anyway, a little bit of a youngster would do the greatest good.

The hotel is fine. It's not terribly modern or up to date, and the room I had was a little run down, but it's serviceable. The location is great though, and the price isn't terrible. We had a great view of the city from our 17th floor room. I'll probably stay here again in the future.

The staff was friendly but the rooms were old and out dated! Worn down best discribes the rooms they called as Classic! Over priced for what you get.

It would help but very expensive for the mediocrity of the room. It reeed of the old people's home, it was older, the shower bit appetizing I would have put sandals. After booking the room we are told that their indoor parking is paying ($20 at night) in the final one night at $200 which in Valais $90 no more.

Nice clean rooms, quiet hotel and friendly staff. Lots of stuff to do nearby and I would stay here again as long as the price is reasonable.

No, for the price it's not worth the cost. Cold reception, hotel that requires a renovation, after a first glance in the bathroom and with the surprise of a small critter, I decided it was better to leave. By the way, if you have a phobia of the elevator do not go there, you can under no circumstances, use the stairs… Hummm.

Worst hotel experience ever! Claimed to be a pet friendly hotel but definitely not! Rude service and worst environment! Does not match the price and level! The worst one I’ve had in North America!

The service is good. The room is ok but it lacked a bit of cleanliness in the bathroom.

This hotel is O. K. I had requested an early check in, as I knew I would be getting in to the city early. When I arrived they were reluctant to even check if a room was available. I pushed for it and when they realized that one was available they told me it would be a 25$ charge to check in early. I paid it as I wanted to get on with my weekend visit to the city. When I got to the room I discovered an open, but unused condom on the desk… so clearly their cleaning standards are not very high. I didn't bother to say anything since the front desk could barely be bothered to check us in when we arrived, j assumed they probably wouldn't care about the lack of room cleaning. I would avoid this place as there are plenty of other hotels in the city.

Excellent place to stay. The rooms are very basic like any hotel. The service is great the staff are attentive. The location of this hotel near old Montreal and downtown are close. There's the food court adjacent to the hotel and a park across the street with plenty of food options.

Clean. Comfortable convenient great staff.

Good hotel in the middle of downtown. Subway is near as well. Popular student destination for March break and school organized trips.

Very well located, large bedroom with comfortable double bed it actually deserves a 3.5. Bedroom is worn out but clean but bathroom needed a thorough review of cleaning standards. We got a great deal at this hotel if not we would have felt we would not have got our money's worth and can only advise to book if you get a great price then yes go for it. Their buffet a few years ago oh what a delight the best in Montreal today it is a shadow of its former self: overcooked sausages, no ham etc what a disappointment all for close to $ 18.

Old high end hotel that gets tired of going. Good location, great bed room it deserves a 3.5. But ordinary cleanliness room, toilet needs thorough cleaning. We had a good price for the hotel otherwise we wouldn't have it for our money.

Security was nice however they charged our credit card for unknown reasons. When we went to dispute it with the manager they simpily turned us down because we weren’t as old as the people they usually deal with. If you’re going here MAKE SURE YOURE ABOVE 30

It's been more than a month but the hotel won't give me back my $200 security deposit. Called numerous times; they say they are going to call me back but they never do. Other people in my group in other rooms also say they did not receive their refund. Never coming back ever again!

Great location; clean towels and comfy bed. Not a five star hotel but what do you expect in a great location and fair price?

Great location, decent service, fair rates, Rooms were not spectacular, but they did the trick.

Really great. The roms are not so sound proved, so you can hear the oders roms biside. But is pretty good.

This is the job, good location, but I have never seen a hotel that is not listening to its guests that way. 3 tries to get out of the parking lot and every time the reception mentioned to me that everything was OK without checking. The household often leaves to be desired, even if one pays more for the business class. See photo. And this even if we are good customer (2 to 4 nights a month, sometimes more, no matter if it is the low or high season.

Treat their client really well. At the slightest opportunity they offer us the upgrade and just for the city rating its worth it! Ask as high as possible!

By far the worst hotel I've ever been to… We were in montreal for a night and we're forced to stay in our room due to the elevators not working. When we called the front desk they told us we were unable to take the stairs because it was for "emergencies only". All in all we paid 400$ to watch TV in our room, not to mention the fact that we had to take the stairs all the way down 17 floors upon leaving. Save your money and time pick another hotel.

Located on Rue St-Hubert Corner Ste-Catherine in front of the Place Galbraith. The rooms are good, the prices are average and the staff is courteous and friendly.

Only negative point was the condition of the lamps. I don't think I have damaged lamps but the room lights were easy to disturb and could turn off alone or turn back on only by hanging their control. No automatic lighting management system, each of the lamps had to be switched on and off separately. This is the first hotel I frequent that did not have this kind of applied technology.

Avoid this place. You can recieve bad service in a hotel that isn't aging gracefully for a much lower price elsewhere. The good: the room was clean. The housecleaning staff — at least that cleaned our room — seem to care about what they do. The view was nice from the room. The bad: everything else. The rooms are dated and showing their wear. The coffee maker in the room was broken. The staff are about as unhelpful as possible and completely apathetic. For the price we're paying, this is completely unacceptable. The long version: We arrived late. The front desk didn't even make eye contact with me, talking exclusively to my husband. We spoke English to each other while she was entering something in the computer, and she did not switch to English to explain the hotel's amenities once she spoke again. Not a huge deal, but definitely not the norm, especially for a hotel in Montreal. We ordered take out and recieved no utensils with our food, so called down to ask for some to be sent up. The response we got was, "we don't provide that service. " While I recognize this is something extra, simply running over to the hotel's bistro to grab some cutlery and running it up is such an easy, simple thing to do that would have a huge impact on our evening. We asked for a wake up call, as we had an appointment we couldn't miss. This was listed as a service they do provide, so where could the problem be? Good thing we woke up, as the call never arrived.

Highly recommended. Excellent service and the location is amazing.

My mother and I decided to stay at this hotel over the Labor Day weekend since she stayed there 35 years ago and it is perfectly located. It would seem no one bothered to clean the rooms since then (I'm barely exaggerating) or changed the furniture. You can barely see through the windows, they are so dirty. Our pillowcases and sheets were stained and unclean (hairs everywhere), the curtains were ripped, dirt everywhere (dripping from the ceiling), most furniture was broken or covered in rust. Genuinely disgusting and disappointing. The only saving grace of this hotel is the staff, who is nice and courteous and one of the best I have seen. Will not be going back.

I was booked in the hotel through a group tour company and was said that it is a 4 star hotel. Once I checked in I got the shock of my life. The room was dated and ugly, the light lamps screamed 1960s, bottom of the doors chipped off, tiles in the bathroom broken, taps dirty, no microwave, no mini fridge in the room. The room also had weird placement of mirrors. Two facing each other creating a series of reflection. Felt thriller movie kind of. I'm not sure if all their rooms are bad or these ones in particular as they were booked for a group. The tour company charged me for a 4 star hotel. Google mentions it as 3 star hotel. In my opinion it is no star hotel. Best avoid if you can.

Do not recommend this hotel. It may have been a good spot several years ago but not in 2017. Rooms are very small dated and not generally well kept. The bathrooms are dirty and mold was growing on the tiles (room 1415). Carpets feel unclean, makes you think twice about walking on them with bare feet. Foul unpleasant order through out the hotel. Front desk staff makes you feel unwelcomed and seem to be annoyed if you can not speak French. Poorly managed hotel. Am sure there are much better places to stay in the Montreal.

This is an OK hotel. Location is perfect. Also near the train station. The room itself is NOT that spectacular, a little outdated but nice. One thing we noticed is the lack of power outlet, you know at this day and age when you charge multiple cellphones and gadgets. They could improve on this. The breakfast is good and the staff are super nice, especially Gabriel, who is super-helpful. He even told me where to go and tips on how to do things in Montreal. Only two elevators (out of 6) were working during our stay and there were plenty of tourists (they arrived in buses) so you can imagine how crowded the lobby and elevator must be. There is a grocery store and fastfood just outside the hotel in the same building so that was super convenient.

The hotel itself was lovely. Great location and an amazing view of the city from our room. However, the bathroom was in much need of repairs. Lots of mold all around bathroom ceiling and in shower/tub. Older tub. The room needed some uodates as well. The staff was friendly enough.

The location worked for us, but the place is in serious need of updating and the service was embarrassingly awful. My wife and I came back from a lovely dinner (go see Yannis at Pieras — perfect meal, perfect service! ) and wanted something sweet. I walked downstairs and ordered the chocolate cake, only to be told it could not be taken back to my room!? What?! The next morning we had two lukewarm coffees we had brought back from breakfast we enjoyed elsewhere. I asked the host at the hotel restaurant if he could please heat them for us. He said that he (and the hotel) would not! Why?! My wife asked the maid for towel (the thin one she had was insufficient). The maid told her to call down to the front desk. Just get me a couple of towels! Terrible. If someone at the hotel would like me to teach staff there just how easy it is to provide memorably top-notch service to every guest who passes through their doors, I would be glad to do so.

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. For the price get something better. 1. Seriously outdated 2. Mold on bathroom ceilings 3.1 outlet worked in our hotel room leaving us to use 1 lamp and share charging phones. Internet stopped working 5. Elevators broke down leaving us to either wait 1/2 hr or climb 17 flights 5. Serious fire code violations in stairwell. We should know since we had to use all weekend 7.2 towels for 4 guest 7.3 pillows for four guest This place was completely horrible.

The staff are nice, friendly, and bilingual (which is really important in my opinion). Our room was alright but the way things were set was a bit weird. There's also no fridge in the room which I found unacceptable in 2017! The room was clean though. The hotel is located at the heart of the city which is amazing if you like walking around downtown Montreal. If you don't like the city vibe then Montreal is probably not your type of place. Rue St. Catherine is where the city is the most alive and it's right around the corner! I didn't have breakfast here but both a continental breakfast and an open buffet are offered. You can find breakfast places either in the village or if you walk westward in St. Catherine.

The best positive I can say is that it was a decent place to sleep. Other than that, the amenities were not very positive. The table for the TV was worn and scratched. We lacked an ice bucket. Black spots on the ceiling above the shower. Sink badly chipped. Wood in bathroom was broken/stained/worn. We even did not receive a full set of towels after a cleaning, although they did leave behind wet used towels in the bedroom area. The hotel was functional for our limited use (beds were comfy and shower was hot).

The lobby was gorgeous, but once you get up to your room, though the rooms are large, the bathrooms are very small. Holes made from a knife were found in the curtains of our room, also blood was found on one of the beds. Overall cleanliness could have really been improved. View was the only good part. Buffet was terrible, would not recommend the eggs.

Central location, very well located. You see something old but is well good and has direct access to the metro, supermarket and pharmacy.

I got kind of scam cause of deposit. Hotel enforced me to deposit 100 dollar's cash. They said credit card deposit is 50 dollars but my card didn't work also I ran out of Canadian dollars. Hotel got my US bill and gave me back Canadian dollars. Through currency change, I lost almost 30bucks. Why Hotel didn't keep money and turn it back? Also outside noise was horrible, I cannot sleep and hairdryer was broken. Filthy and horrible hotel. So disappointed.

It's passable. Good price but the place hasn't been dusted ever. I asked them to come and "clean" the keurig that was CAKED with dust so I could brew coffee and they came and wiped it with a rag but that's not enough for those things, especially if they haven't been cleaned since you bought them months or years ago. Even after running clean water through 30 times (no joke), crud was still coming out. Chunks. There is so much dust behind the bed the carpet is another color. It's about 2cm thick. There isn't a fitted bed sheet on the bed so the mattress is exposed. NO free breakfast for us for some reason, no mini fridge, no bags for the ice box and a moldy shower curtain. They didn't even give us new lids for the coffee cups. There was only one and it was covered in dust, torn and clearly man handled. Haha. You have to ask yourself if the price is worth the uncleanliness.

Me and my roommates actually received a call from reception and quickly hung up. We knew we didn't accidentally dial it, as we all heard the phone ring. Our friends had gotten calls from reception as well at random times. Someone came to our room and told us not to prank call reception, although they called us. We were absolutely enraged, however, the view from our room was absolutely lovely and the rooms were fairly nice, although our hair dryer didn't work either. Location was great and it is a very tidy hotel.

The view was amazing and the room was wonderful but the reason I rate it 3 instead of 5 stars is because the rooms didn't smell as fresh as I hoped it was and I got a random phone calls asking if I could stop prank calling the front desk and I didn't even pick up the phone ONCE as I was there and the front desk kept calling my room. So either make sure that the front desk keeps track of who is calling and who is not or please have better housekeeping. Thx so much :)

This hotel was so-so. The drain in the bathtub didn't drain properly and the beds were a bit lumpy. The location is great though and the price is good.

The rooms are quite old, the bathtub makes creaking noises, and the exhaust is deafeningly loud. Expected a bit more than what I saw.

My stay there was okay at best. Great views, small bar area, and great location. The room itself was not very good, and the lobby staff was a little rude and unhelpful.

I'm quite surprised from some reviews I read. I spend several separated nights in this hotel last year for business purpose and I was always satisfied with the room and the service. I travel very often and have tasted 3, 4 and 5 stars hotels. This place is really good for the price. It is true that in some room, I could hear the elevators, but this was nothing to prevent me from getting a good night of sleep. This is a skyscraper in Montreal downtown… you must expect to hear some noise! Parking is safe, all commodities are nearby, rooms are big, cleaning is good, staff is nice, restaurants are very good… I don't see what somebody would expect more from a 3 stars, less than 150$CAN per night. I've seen similar hotels in Montreal asking more than 200$ per night and I spent time in 350$ rooms in Toronto and New-York that were not better at all. By the way, to the person complaining about the hotel not letting his son access the room: You need a key to get to your room. Just ask for more keys when you check-in and you won't have issues. The day someone will get to your room without a key and steal your stuff, you will be the first to complain… again!

Did not enjoy our stay at the Gouverneur. It is in a great location, right on the Metro downtown with walking access to Old Montreal. However the good points end there. The room was falling apart, wallpaper peeling, fixtures in the bathroom coming undone. We were 2 rooms away from the elevator but could hear nothing but elevator cars rising and falling all night. I have a laundry list of issues with this place. From lack of additional pillows/blankets to general amount of noise inside. We won't be returning. If you're in Montreal for spring break or looking for a party destination downtown, then go ahead and book this place.
