COMO Uma Paro

We had 8 nights as a family in early April and were deeply impressed by the quality and depth of service by all the staff, from the GM down to the housekeepers.
The food is outstanding, fresh and homemade, mostly from local produce and always available with a healthy theme, so perfect for us.
The rooms we had (35&39) were great and had sweeping views down the valley and up to the forest covered hills to the mountains. This is not the newest hotel, so if a very recent renovation is important to you you might look elsewhere, but if you appreciate timeless quality, solid wooden furniture, great food, local art and heartfelt warm service then you won’t be disappointed. The Spa treatments are excellent too.
We had booked a 3-day hike at 3500-4000m but were unlucky to encounter some unseasonal bad weather and my son was not well, so we had to turn back, but our excellent guide coordinated everything with the hotel and their trekking partners to make sure it was a memorable trip nonetheless.

COMO Uma Paro is the perfect starting and ending point for discovering the breathtaking beauty of Bhutan. We booked the “Jewels of Bhutan” round-trip package through COMO and enjoyed it immensely — especially together with our guide Tshering and our driver Pema. Every day was different, and every day amazed us all over again.
The hotel is a place with a truly unique atmosphere. The staff are attentive, warm, and approachable — a wonderful and highly professional team. The food in the beautiful restaurant is excellent and varied, from breakfast through to dinner. The design is very tasteful.
The rooms offer stunning views. However, they are not especially impressive in terms of size or interior design. In that respect, COMO Uma in Punakha has the edge. But in the end, you spend most of the day out exploring and simply need a comfortable bed for a restful night’s sleep — and we definitely had that.
Tip: In the afternoon, after a day full of impressions, unwind in the heated pool and let your soul relax.

Absolutely Phenomenal! This hotel is set up on a hill and has a beautiful view over looking pine tree forests and the airport. The food is some of the best I have tasted. The service and hospitality is top class. I had a guide Tshering and driver Nengay who were fantastic. Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at a villa with a nice view to Paro. The villa was very big and comfortable. The bathroom was very spacious with both a bathtub and a shower room. Our butler was very helpful and took very good care of all our needs. The restaurant seemed a bit dated and was rather poorly isolated. It was the end of November and there seemed to be a problem in keeping the room warm, so I had to ask for two blankets to keep myself warm during diner. The food was good and breakfast was very nice too. We were quite surprised by the price of the wine though: between 12 and 18 euro for one glass. It was more expensive than in many places in Europe.

Wonderful cosy hospitality — food wonderful, our butler was lovely and the archery was very fun! The best room / villa that we have ever stayed in. The massage & hot stone bath is essential! We loved every minute.

Lovely hotel with excellent views over Paro and set in lovely grounds. Food was good, especially the all day menu. Comfy rooms, nice spa area and enjoyed the yoga studio and steam room. Would definitely consider staying at other hotels in this group again. Not good though that you can’t pay with an international credit card which requires chip and pin.

COMO was our choice for our honeymoon, and it truly exceeded every expectation. From the moment we landed, we were warmly greeted and asked how we preferred to be addressed, something the entire team remembered throughout our stay. Everyone knew our names, and the attention to detail didn’t stop there. The staff quickly noticed our food preferences and made sure every meal included them, making our experience feel genuinely personal and unforgettable.
Our driver Asha and guide Yoten were just as incredible. They listened to what we enjoyed and thoughtfully added a few extra stops along the way that perfectly matched our interests. Their kindness, warmth, and flexibility made the journey even more special, it honestly felt like traveling with friends.
And let’s not forget about the food! The meals were oh my God—wow, wow, wow! We couldn’t believe we almost missed out on the all-day menu, the pizza and burger were such a fun surprise! Not to take anything away from the Bhutanese dishes and the beautiful dinner menu, but truly, every meal was a highlight. We thought we might go hungry in the mountains, but instead, we had some of the best meals we’ve ever had.

This was our last of four lodgings in Bhutan and the most touristed location which made it not quite as serene as the other 3 and really quite popular. The location makes it the natural to do the Tiger's Nest hike which is totally unmissable. Given that the other lodgings included Aman and Six Senses we were delighted with Como and loved the food, service and vibe.

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of a 6 night Como Historical Odyssey trip, the other 2 nights were at Como Punakha.
For the trip we had two guides Yarab and Chimi who were absolutely excellent, they couldn’t do enough to show us Bhutan. Yarab had a huge amount of experience having been with Como since it opened and similar but not so long for Chimi our driver. We saw some amazing places, temples, valleys, mountains including the highest unclimbed mountain in the Himalayas. We were very fortunate with the weather as we had blue sky and sun every day. Both Yarab and Chimi made us feel exceptionally welcome in their homeland. We ended our trip on our very best day with a hike up to see the Tigers Nest Monastery, which although tiring was certainly worthwhile climbing to 3100m to experience it.
Como Uma Paro itself was very nice, its sister hotel in Punakha I would rate more highly, there was just something about the service that was more personal. The rooms in Paro were very good, they probably need a bit of a refurb in the hotel but the views are stunning. We used the swimming pool and had a hot stone bath and massage particularly good after the Tigers Nest hike.
Wi-Fi was good, bathrooms fine, we found the hallways and communal areas a bit cold, the restaurant was fine with their wood burning fire. Food was very nice both the Bhutanese and Western, again I would say Punakha was better but all in all still pretty good.

Our stay at Como Uma Paro in Bhutan was unforgettable. The property is beautiful and peaceful, with great food, a good gym, and a pool that was perfect for relaxing after exploring. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and had lovely views.
We booked the Himalaya Immersion package (9 nights — a combination of Paro, Punakha & Bundrak). What made the trip outstanding were our guide Tshering (O) and our driver Tshering, both were incredible and made our 9 days in Bhutan absolutely perfect. Thank you again!
We were very impressed and touched by how genuinely cared for we felt, it was absolutely obvious that everyone gave their very best from the heart. I really want to come back one day & without doubt highly recommended to anyone visiting Bhutan.

My experience at Como Uma was an 11/10. I have already recommended it to my friends. I booked the villa. In Paro, I could not have had a more thoughtful, caring, proactive, and eager butler, Tashi. She is a gem and I felt so absolutely well cared for in every respect. Even little things like asking for my clothes to be laundered, or arranging for an archery session, or knowing what I would like for my meals, or just plain old conversation, I felt like I was visiting a (very hospitable) Bhutanese friend! And among guides, no one comes close to L WangDa. He has a very deep understanding of Bhutan and its past, present, and future. He understood my needs, made a pivotal recommendation to spend a night at Como Uma in Punakha which was one of the best periods of the trip, arranged for lunch in a farmhouse, and took me up to Tiger's Nest at the right time in order to see this magnificent place. He is exceptionally fun to be around as a conversationalist… also, give him a guitar and let him do his thing! Again, I felt like I have made a lifelong friend in Bhutan. And I must not forget our exceptional driver, Chimi, who was fun, safe, and had the best food recommendations. I also appreciate greatly the General Manager, Sonam, who spent quite a lot of time with me just talking about Bhutan and the Como experience. All in all, there was no need that was unmet during my high-expectations trip to Bhutan.

Absolutely amazing stay! We returned to Uma Paro after 18 years and the property is still as stunning as we remembered it! We are frequent and discerning travelers…who stayed at over 23 hotels last year and ten so far this year…but I can touch my heart and say that everything was exceptional at Uma Paro from the property to the room to the food and the service.

Blissfully Quiet and Serene Stay. Excellent Hospitality. Very accommodating for every request you make. Surprisingly close to Paro airport. The heated pool is a perfect place to bond with family or reconnect with yourself. Indian food needs some improvement.

Como Uma in Bhutan was a standout highlight of our trip. The property is absolutely beautiful, incredibly peaceful, and ideal for relaxing after exploring the area. The gym was excellent, the food was consistently top quality, and the pool was a great spot to unwind after a day of hiking, especially after tackling the Tiger’s Nest.
The location is also perfect for souvenir shopping and getting a feel for the local culture. What truly set this place apart was the staff — they were flawless. Every need was anticipated and taken care of, and we were even given a complimentary upgrade which was a lovely surprise.
If you’re visiting Bhutan, staying at Como Uma is a no-brainer. Highly recommended.

This hotel is set in a spectacular setting and is also well located. The villa we stayed in was huge. In addition to spacious dining areas there was a large bathroom and also a massage room. We had spectacular views and we also easily spotted birds and animals (including jackals early in the morning). We had our own butler who looked after our every need and buggied us from our villa whenever we wanted and to wherever we were headed. She was extremely accommodating. The food was exceptionally good… fresh ingredients with excellent presentation.

Uma Paro is lovely. We did the 7 night COMO highlights of Bhutan package and found it very good.
The absolute stand out was our guide Tshering Dorji who was the best guide we’ve ever had on our travels — the perfect balance of deep knowledge, humour, patience and meeting all of our needs. He was amazing and along with our excellent driver Namgey looked after us brilliantly. While we broadly had an itinerary we shaped in as we went and added and subtracted according to what we wanted to do — all without any issue.
COMO does really great food. Healthy; much sourced from their own gardens, options that are Bhutanese, western and Indian. And delicious. Head Chef Tshering was amazing and was wonderful to meet too. If you’re into food, it’s worth coming to COMO just for this.
Beyond that staff were great — all of them. From managers to wait staff in the restaurants. We were looked after and accommodated in many ways. We enjoyed the spa treatments at both COMO sites though Nema at COMO Punakha was one of the best masseuses we’ve ever had (she is amazing! ).
Everything ran smoothly, from booking with the reservations team in advance, sorting visas and our actual trip.
The trip is pricey and while COMO may be less than other hotel chains it still charges premium prices — on a global level. And we felt that the hotel just wasn’t up to the standard we’d have expected. A bit dated, needing a touch of TLC. But when you’re paying well over $1000 a night for a room it should blow you away.
