Pirates Backpackers - Hostel

I had initially booked into Pirates Backpackers for a week — fast forward two months later and I'm still here! The hostel is the size of a big house which makes it feel like a home away from home. The staff is extremely friendly and there are always social activities planned to have fun and get to know everyone. The location in central Freo is also a big plus as you have everything you need at a walking distance. Highly recommend!

I checked into Pirates thinking it would be temporary until I found a sublet, and almost 2 months later I’m still here because I love it so much.
It really does feel like a home away from home and is more like a share house. Perfect for solo travellers. The atmosphere is super friendly and welcoming, and a nice mix of fun and chill, and there’s always activities being organised.
Special shoutout to Vaughan and Valentina — they are amazing and it’s rare you’ll meet a hostel team who genuinely care about everyone, want to get to know people’s names and stories — I’ll be so sad when I eventually leave!

Great for if you are a traveller around your 30s and enjoy a social and chill hostel! It’s in a perfect spot in Fremantle — Loved my stay here! Hostel is a bit old but clean.

The motto of this hostel is “your home away from home. ” I read it right before moving there from home. I thought it was very nice, but maybe a bit too ambitious. But then… I actually moved to the Pirates and understood exactly why they say it. I felt like home on each day of my staying. I met people who became like family, and there were always activities happening at the hostel to keep the group united. I ended up staying for three months, and I would have definitely stayed longer if my visa hadn’t required me to spend time in the outback.
I feel deeply grateful for the time I spent at the Pirates and for all the people I met thanks to this place. Thanks to my Pirates’ family, and to Vaughan for making all of this possible!

I’ve checked into Pirates thinking I’d only stay for one week but ended up staying for 4 months instead. I had an amazing time and met a good bunch of friends who felt like a family. The staff was lovely and always helping out whatever you need. There are great, cozy common areas and many activities like yoga, dancing, movie nights, painting and some good parties. I can highly recommend staying in Pirates for a while and enjoying the spirit of this amazing place. I will always be happy to return.

Doing a working holiday in Australia is not just a big travel, at some point you need a home and a family to keep you going, so far away from home. I would 100% recommend coming to pirates to find this home. Vale and Vaughan welcomed me immediately and helped me find a job. The common areas are so nice to chill and meet people. There are cool parties but also chill activities, like painting, watching movies or talking till the late hours. During the day you can go play beach volley, go to all the beaches, do a barbecue or try to go surfing.
Pirates and Fremantle were the place where I stayed the longest and where I was the happiest in Australia. I made amazing friends, this little town is great to walk around in, the weather is always good, people are happy and there is always something to do.
Come to pirates guys, stay a few months, make memories and friends for life, and who knows, maybe you will meet the love of your life and send Vaughan a picture of your wedding (he will tell everyone about it forever 😉)

I had an amazing stay at Pirates Hostel in Fremantle! The atmosphere feels just like being part of a family. Valentina at the reception and the owner Vaughan are absolutely fantastic – always smiling and ready to help with anything you need. They made my stay so welcoming and memorable. I couldn’t recommend this place enough!

I’ve been staying at Pirates for six weeks now and it has such a beautiful vibe. Everyone is so open and connected — it really feels like one big family. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay 🥰

I was at Pirates for a month… and it was a fantastic month, I met a lot of people who became friends. The common areas are always full of friends who want to share food and experiences. As for the areas of the hostel, they are always cleaned, several times a day. The rooms are large and equipped with fans. The staff and the owner Vaughan are fantastic If you come here you will feel at home and you will not miss it.

I stayed in this hostel for two months and one week… and that’s honestly a record for me! I’m not the kind of person who usually stays in a hostel for more than three weeks, but here it was different from day one.
I found a family here a warm and welcoming place where you truly feel at home.
The staff is amazing: always helpful, kind, and ready to support you with anything you need. And not only them… the other guests quickly become part of your everyday life shared dinners, late-night talks, and unforgettable memories.
A special thank you to Vale and Lara. I truly saw real sisters in them. Their support and kindness made this experience unforgettable, and I’m grateful with all my heart.
I left a piece of my soul here, definitely my heart. ❤️

A homey, tight knit, welcoming, warm hostel right in the heart of Freo with friendly and smiley staff. Everyone takes care of each other and you'll always find help in a friend when and where you need it. This place was my first hostel experience and it was a great one.

Hands down the best place to stay in Freo, good location, overall good vibes, easy to become part of the furniture, can’t wait to visit again sometime soon!

I've been in the hostel for 3 months and I'm happy to stay here. Good vibes and good people 🫠 Valentina, Vaughan and in general the hostel usually organise a lot of things to do together like painting sessions, dinner all together, go to the beach and more!

I had an amazing stay at this hostel! The location is super central, making it easy to explore the city. The staff are incredibly helpful and attentive, and you really feel like part of a family here. The overall vibe is just fantastic and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Lovely homely feel, staff are incredible and always more than happy to help. People make the place in my opinion and I’ve met some of my favorites while staying here. Location is perfect for a beach day or a night out or anywhere in between!

I stayed at pirates from January to July this year and absolutely loved it. You quickly become apart of a family and it feels like you’re living in a share house rather than a hostel. Would definitely recommend to anyone but especially solo travellers it’s so easy to make friends. Very special place with so many memories attached for so many people. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend my time in Fremantle.
