Rydges Melbourne

We have just returned from 2 nights staying at Rydges Melbourne. My daughter and I came down to see a show at Her Majesty’s Theatre from Brisbane. This hotel was incredible. From booking over the phone with Luke, who added a few special items to the room for my daughter, to the whole stay. All staff members were so friendly and helpful. They would ask how our day had been and were always smiling. The room was perfect. Very modern and such comfortable beds. Location fantastic also. Across the road from the theatre and a short walk/tram ride to Bourke Street. Pool would be great in the warmer months. Breakfast was a feast and had everything you could want. We had such a memorable stay and a huge shout out to Luke for making it special. Highly recommend.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights, and my overall experience was rather disappointing.
The hotel boasts a great location, pleasant surroundings and well-kept facilities that are all up to a high standard. Regrettably, its service is simply not worthy of its premium prices.
When I booked the room, the promotional pictures showed one view, but the actual scenery outside the window was totally different. I called the front desk to request a room with a better view, yet I was told all rooms had similar views.
In addition, basic necessities like slippers were not provided in the room, and I had to call staff to get them. My original check-out time was 11 a. M. I phoned to ask if I could check out at 12 p. M. Instead, but I was refused straight away, as they said they had upcoming reservations. I have never encountered such an inflexible rule in other hotels before.
What’s more, the front desk phones were often unanswered, and the elevators operated very slowly.
It is such a pity that this hotel offers first-class surroundings and charges high prices, while its service quality falls far short of expectations.

We were so happy with our Corner room. We had an incredible view of Melbourne and everything was fantastic!
Service was great, and leading up to our check in the hotel staff were so helpful in having a cake delivered and set up in the room for our arrival! They also gifted us a bottle of bubbles to celebrate. We loved all the amenities, rooftop pool included!
Could not fault the hotel, the bed was so comfy it was the longest and best sleep we both have had in ages!
Location was super easy for restaurants and bars, cafes we went into Fitzroy which was a really nice 20 min stroll or 5 min drive. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

Hotel is located in a very prime position of Melbourne. Being so close to the theatre district and so many places to eat and drink was appealing.
Hotel rooms are on the smaller side for what you are paying. No black out blinds and very minimal hanging space for clothes.

The Ridges Hotel is a solid, practical choice in Melbourne with good value for what it offers. The location feels convenient for exploring the city, and it’s easy to get around from there whether you’re walking or catching transport.
The rooms are comfortable and well cared for clean, functional, and with all the essentials you need for a stay. I’d describe them as simple but pleasant not overly fancy, but enough to rest well and feel at ease.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and check-in/check-out is smooth, which always counts when you’re travelling.
On the downside, there’s nothing ultra memorable or luxurious about the hotel. The common areas are fine and the design is clean, but it’s not a place you go to be wowed more a place you go to rest and recharge after exploring the city. If you’re after spa facilities, a big pool, or standout amenities, this isn’t really that spot.
It’s a great base for exploring Melbourne, walkable to many spots or easy transport access.
Rooms are more simple and functional than stylish or high-end. Ask about any package deals or dining options when you book sometimes there are extras that add value. Perfect for short stays, business trips, or travel where you care more about comfort than wow-factor.
Overall, The Ridges is solid, dependable, and comfy a good pick if you want a fuss-free place to stay in Melbourne without crazy prices or pretense.

Rydges Melbourne was amazing.
Service was exceptional, and the manager personally welcomed my Mum and I. His thoughtful gesture of providing us with a complimentary coffee immediately set a warm and accommodating tone.
The room itself was impeccably clean and tidy, providing a comfortable atmosphere for our stay. Such outstanding service and quality.
Highly recommend.

The hotel is beautifully appointed in the centre of Melbourne. It’s super comfortable although my room was pretty small for a longer stay.
The hotel is obviously very popular as it was very busy, which meant a wait time for the lift and no chairs around the pool. I’ve stayed at cheaper hotels in Melbourne I preferred more so I probably wouldn’t stay here again — however it’s a great shout for a long weekend in the city.

Great location, nice huge bed, quiet and large room (I stayed in corner king). I loved that there was a bathtub and shower separately and toilet in another little room. The hotel is modern and staff at the reception was very friendly. The negatives were not really comfortable pillows — they were too big — and non existent housekeeping. I stayed there for 4 days and there were 2 cups on the floor near the door of our neighbours and nobody bothered to pick them up. For 4 days! They cleaned that room at least twice and new people moved in but the cups were still there. My room wasn't serviced at all, I asked for it once at the reception, I asked second time on the next day and hung "please refresh my room" tag, I ended up asking the lady on my floor to clean my room on the last day of my stay as I literally ran out of toilet paper :) ) ) they really need to work on their housekeeping as it's not a cheap hotel and I stayed in plenty of Rydges before, never seen such a poor service.

Stayed at Rydges Melbourne after our holiday got cancelled due to the bushfires.
Rooms — were great, views over the city, clean and lux sheets and towels & no noise from outside or other rooms.
Service — buffet breakfast was fantastic, gym is good and kids loved the rooftop pool.
Location — right amongst the best restaurants and bars of Melbourne.
Highly recommend.

The hotel has some great positives. The location is excellent, the bed was very comfortable, and I really liked the Chromecast/stream cast option (however, it often dropped out, which was frustrating). The gym was clean and had great equipment, and the lobby felt modern and well designed.
Unfortunately, the stay was let down by several issues. The lighting in the room, especially in the bathroom, was very poor. It made it really difficult to do makeup or see how we looked in anything close to natural lighting. The bathroom layout was also not practical, as there was no door to the shower, which left the floor soaking wet. Because housekeeping wasn’t happening regularly, we were left with a wet bath mat for days.
Housekeeping was the biggest issue. After the second night, our room was not serviced, despite clearly displaying the “please refresh our room” hanger on the door. When we spoke to reception, they couldn’t explain why the room hadn’t been serviced, though they did offer drink vouchers, which was appreciated. We were told someone would come up straight away, but we waited about 40 minutes before the room was refreshed, which was frustrating as it was around 5pm and we were trying to get ready to go out for dinner. On the third and fourth nights, there was still no housekeeping.

Absolutely excellent stay here, lovely hotel and friendly staff who go above and beyond. Right in the centre of location so perfect for sightseeing. The theatre is opposite and we went to see the MJ Show which was terrific. The food in the hotel was of high quality. The breakfast so varied and delicious, plentiful. Really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend. Despite being in the centre the room was very well soundproofed, great views of the skyscrapers. The pool deck on top floor was great and nice to finish off a day of busy sightseeing. All in all perfect! Thank you to all at Rydges.

A great hotel in an even better location. Had previously stayed at more expensive options in and around the city, but will definitely booking back in at Rydges on our next stay.
The staff were super helpful on check in and made us feel instantly welcome. The room was comfortable and the bed perfect.
We didn’t book breakfast but ended up dining there all three mornings of our stay. Buffett style but fresh and varied with tasty options. Definitely try the glazed bacon!
Location wise was perfect for us. A short walk down into Melbourne City through china town where we had a great meal.
Also managed to book tickets for the MJ musical across the road at her majesty’s theatre which was an unexpected bonus of the trip!
Will be back.

My husband had a wonderful stay for wedding anniversary. We were welcomed to the room with a handwritten card, champagne and chocolate, which was very generous and a great way to start our weekend. I manage a hotel myself so I'm pretty particular and I can happily say that I would be very pleased to check a guest into this room. It was impeccably clean, modern and tasteful, with everything you would need.
I wish it was warm enough to use the rooftop pool because it looked beautiful, we will have to come back during the summer.
They do offer contactless check in/out via a kiosk. I prefer to chat to a person, although this came in handy for check out as there was a line and we were able check out quickly without having to wait.

We opted for a three night stay at The Rydges and were very happy with our choice. Wonderfully located near theatres and China Town, its ideal location for everything. We had a huge corner, king sized room. Large, tasteful bathroom and a big bath as well.
It’ s only a short walk to catch the free, inner city tram, ideal to get your bearings. When “downtown” be sure to visit the stylish Block and Royal arcades.
We had a truly exceptional Chinese meal at The Bamboo Garden, the food and the service were some of the best I’ve experienced, just 50 metres from the hotel, on little Bourke street. (I’d certainly book in advance as it is busy)
Behind the hotel the streets lead up to The Parliament building (where you get the tram from — just check what times they start and allow them time to get to your stop! ) and the Treasury building (free entry to see where all their gold was stored) However, the real hidden gem for us was a visit to The Conservatory building, in the park behind The Treasury, where the plants and flowers were truly exquisite. We also visited the Melbourne Botanical gardens which were extensive and beautiful.
While here, my wife took advantage of a visit to Phillip Island to see the penguins. She thought this was a magical experience!
The only downside was the parking. Unless you’re already a car park member (which can give you a 20% discount) parking isn’t hard, just expensive.

We stayed in a king room and it was lovely we could not fault it. The room was huge and lovely big bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the service was great, the hotel is in a great location and way walk to everything. Highly recommend!

Had a wonderful four night stay in a King Corner room. Every staff member we came across were so friendly. Even the chefs at breakfast were lovely. The room was nice and modern, up on the 21st floor. Bath tub comfy and great view over the east side of the city. Bed super comfy, nice and quite. Buffett breakfast great selection, and great coffee! Location of hotel is brilliant, right neat Chinatown, Flinders Lane restaurants and cafes, and beautiful parks to wander in! This will be where we stay for future Melbourne visits!
