Rooms are compact but I never found myself thinking they were too small. I felt the same about breakfast, there wasn't a lot of choice but I enjoyed it.

Perfect location for our show at the Palais Theatre. Basic room but for $100 a night it was practical and clean. Front desk staff attentive and professional. Get out for a walk to see the water or stroll down Acland St and your in the thick of the action within 5 minutes. Bars, restaurants and Luna Park all at your doorstep.

Fantastic place to be — looked a little tucked away but was a great surprise. Big rooms, good cafe, great bar /restaurant and the hotel staff were some of the best we have ever met! This is where customer service is king. All staff were informative, helpful, easy to talk to and ready to help — some other hotels could learn a thing or two. Have already told a heap of our friends and family. We know where we are staying next time in Melbourne.

I was disappointed with our stay here. The hotel is nothing like the photos that we saw when booking and very dated and obviously getting worn and tired. Rooms were however clean which was great. Unfortunately on our second night was a nightmare with a party a few rooms over keeping us awake until we finally decided to pack up and leave when it got light. There was obviously smoking also as it was coming through our air conditioning vents, although it is meant to be no smoking hotel. Although the staff were very friendly and tried to ask the party to stop it was still going on when we check out at 7am. Unfortunately, we are now leaving Melbourne exhausted after what was meant to be a weekend to rest. Would not recommend this place for the price, definitely is dated and not what I would expect from The Rydges!

Stayed here for the Grand prix. Location: Great location with tram stop outside. Took direct service to track on Thursday and Friday but in the weekend had to walk or catch replacement bus. There's plenty of places to eat outside. Noise from the nearby pub was very loud on the Saturday night and went late. Building: Not very well designed with 2 tiny lifts and meandering corridors. Room: I had room 218, a deluxe king. First thing that struck me was the lack of a window, just a locked door leading to a ledge. Tv was disappointing. The remote was replaced by the cheapest and smallest possible. Very limited choice of channels. Bathroom was the other main disappointment. Due to there being only half a screen the floor ended up covered in water. There was no plug for the sink and a consistent sewage odour. Conclusion: I didn't have an unpleasant stay but the standard of the hotel did not meet my expectations considering what I paid for it. I am unlikely to stay here again.

Loud, small rooms with no personality — felt like I was staying the red light district! With it being a Saturday Night, I can understand a lot of young people want to go out and party, but if you enjoy sleep — pack your earplugs. However, the service staff were lovely and welcoming, and made everything very easy for a quick check in and out which I appreciated. The restaurant looked nice for breakfast, but didn't feel the need to stick around.

The rooms are clean but just a bit small, especially for 2 people. There are some odd smells in some areas and the fridge in our room needs a good clean. They do have an excellent system where you are given a $10 credit for food and drink for each day you don't need your room made up.

Beautiful room, however it was so noisy from the street below we could not sleep for the entire night. Breakfast was not very good.

Enjoyed one night stay after a wedding that was in town. (cbd). Clean, pleasant staff, convenient location… but certainly didnt feel worth $300/ night that was charged. Would expect something a little more posh. But it served the need just fine.

Great location. Helpful staff. Poor cleaning service and disappointing gym and pool. The room had no spare blankets which was a shame as I was cold and had to turn the heater.

We only went for brunch and it was fantastic… Great food… Friendly service… Got a lot of assistance from our waitress regarding certain allergies we needed catered for and made sure we had a great experience… Highly recommended.

Location was perfect! Easy to walk down to the foreshore and close to restaurants and bars. Our room was a king room and it had everything we needed. Staff was very friendly and helpful and th restaurant breakfast was lovely.

The staff at Rydges St Kilda were amazing. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel like royalty. Even just mentioning it room number in the restaurant at breakfast, the waitress knew exactly what our inclusions were and was very helpful with my wife's dairy intolerance. The room was lovely, clean and inviting. We stayed in a king spa room, and it was well worth the money. Thank you Rydges staff!

Great location with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby and a tram stop right out the front. Brought your car? No worries, gated car park directly behind the hotel ($15 extra). Rooms super modern with lots of cool features like motorised blinds, free in house movies, underfloor heating, rainfall showerhead and a mini dishwasher. But most importantly, the beds are super comfy.

Didn't plan for addional 30$ for parking as a lot of reviews mentioned special offers. That was not the case. Even the car Park 100 meters away charges less for 24 hours (only 25$). Check-in was kind of rude. More a less like "here's your Key — give me your credit card". Didn't receive any information about the free entry to the St. Kilda sea bath or the Gym. I wish we had no window at all in our room… see picture. On the positive side the room was clean and room size ok.

Dessert (caramel cheesecake) was small and not worth the price as it was as big as a shot glass.

I booked this for myself and my 4 year old as last minute for a family funeral. The staff were friendly and whatever I needed for my daughter they were happy to accommodate including heating up food, bottles etc however I was disappointed with the fact that the website I booked through said breakfast was included each day and that the rooms had foxtel. Neither was the case as this had been obsolete for a while now. Despite the fact that the website I booked through said that I would stay here again. It was wonderful.

Roomy, clean and close to the shops and the beach.

Ideally located and only a short stroll to the beach, pubs and cafes of Fitzroy street. Parking made a breeze via the side street entrance, rooms were clean, ensuite spotless and the new large HD TV was awesome. But the staff were in a league of their own and went way out of their way to help, they were simply brilliant 10/10. We will stay again for sure!

I got both refunded within 7 days but odd that I was charged by both. Next time, I would book direct through Easy Stays/Abode to avoid that.

Clean hotel. Good location… Quiet rooms. Brekky was decent. Conference rooms are a bit small and the parking was a bit tight. Teas and coffees… all good.

Great service in this hotel. Set up well for the business traveller. We had a room with faulty air con on a bitter winters day. Lidwina sorted a new room pronto and a lovely card and bottle of wine waiting for us in the new room. Such a pleasant surprise. I travel to Melbourne regularly and will stay here often.

Staff were very nice and polite. The room was clean, cosy and charming while offering a city view and a larger bed. Location is unbeatable while also offering great car parking options at extra cost.

Staff were very efficient and friendly, nothing to much trouble. Rooms very clean and spacious. We will certainly stay here again. Location and the closeness to live music and restaurants was perfect.

Good quality room with comfortable bed and all the amenities needed for an overnight stay. Little bit tired in some areas of the bathroom that could be updated or fixed the only negative.

If you were a visitor to Melbourne, you couldn't go past the Rydges St Kilda as a base. It is right in the middle of cosmopolitan St Kilda, so there is always a great vibe day and night, that you just don't get in the CBD. Walking distance to some of the best restaurants and pubs in Melbourne, plus beautiful beaches and parks and the tram into the city. We were celebrating an anniversary and were upgraded to the Premier Spa Suite which had a double spa which even my husband loved so he could watch the huge TV from the bath. The bed was really comfortable and the room surprisingly quiet given the location. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the cafe downstairs, but there were heaps of places within a short walk where you could get all different types of food. I loved the elevator which is done up to look like St Kilda Pier.

Got free covered parking within the hotel building from Groupon deal. Hotel is beautiful and just off St Kilda Beach (Esplanade/Sea Bath). Spacious room and powerful room heater! Value for money.

Fabulous stay at Rydges St Kilda. Friendly staff. Lovely room. 5 stars from us.

Staff are friendly. Rooms have had a quick refurbish but are serviceable and comfortable. Our air conditioner needed servicing because it has a high pitched whine. Lift is old and rickety. None of that is too much of an issue and wouldn't cause me to complain. the problem is next door has a licence till 1am. And they're open air. Meaning they play bad, LOUD club music that comes right through the walls and windows until 1am. I know that is not Rydges fault. But in the middle of the night when I cannot sleep, when I have a huge day tomorrow, I do not care whose fault it is, it is not what I signed up for. The staff are sympathetic but again… If you can't sleep through that sort of racket DO NOT stay here.

Close to the beach and tram stop but not a good surrounding. The room was tidy and modern. The breakfast was basic and the foyer was smelly.

Stay was pleasant enough. As the title suggests it's a hotel. Reasonable location, easy to get around and very reasonably priced. Would stay again if I needed to be down that way. A small aspect, I requested on Check-Out to use EFTPOS via my debit card. This request was repeated, and even specifically requested that the 'savings' button be pressed. Sadly, this was not done.

Stayed for a long weekend and check-in was a breeze. The hotel is well located in Sr Kilda, minutes from the beach and right by a team stop. The room itself was spacious and clean though starting to become a little tired.

Rydges St Kilda cannot be compared to the other Rydges hotel at least to Melbourne city or Sydney world square one, I booked my stay for the long weekend and my experience was some what disappointing considering my previous stays at Rydges. Room size (circle) was below average, bedding was ok with very poor lighting probably to cover stain marks on carpet / walls. To my surprise there was no Foxtel and a dead battery cordless phone which kept on beeping the whole first night. I was expecting a parking fee considering the St Kilda location and my previous experiences in Melbourne, but never expected it to be $96 for apartment type condensed spot. Free Wi-Fi was a gimmick just like standard 3rd tier hotels and the same was room service and the restaurant – hub. However, I did enjoy the cocktails and the lovely evening music.

When arriving the staff were pretty rude. The room could do with a better clean on walls and grime on toilet but worst of all no hot water to shower. We let them know but nothing was ever done and no follow up.

Good location with good size rooms, comfortable bedding. Hygiene was OK with clean sheets and clean bathroom. Walls however were beaten up and common areas had strains on carpets. Service was hit and miss generally some helpful service with a smile, others helpful but cold. Would stay again but only as a three star option.

I previously worked for AHL so my standards may be a little higher than most. Although the stay was quite pleasant it was let down by a few things and I was expecting a higher room standard. Several items in our suite were run down, broken or not quite right. I called down to have my AC fixed 5 hours later I had to call back to chase up having it fixed. The front of staff house during our stay were fantastic and more than willing to help.

Probably best to book on line if you are to book, very disinterested reception staff with little knowledge of pricing. Highly unmotivating for me to consider booking. His advice was for me was to call back another time and ask for reservations again to see if the pricing is different!

I've previously stayed at Rydges (Melbourne CBD) and, based solely on my experience I decided to book in at Rydges St Kilda. In a previous life, Rydges St Kilda was Hotel Urban. A bit of Googling revealed mixed reviews. However, based on my own experience staying at Rydges I thought things would be better under the new name… I was about to be proven wrong. When I phoned my booking I was asked my intended time of arrival; 2pm was my book-in time and I was told the room would be available upon my arrival, with my Fiancee. I had booked the "Round Room" that included a spa and took the "Bed/Breakfast" rate. Being informed to use the "Back Gate" and being buzzed into the carpark, we unloaded the car and proceeded to enter the hotel via the open "Fire Door" (despite a sign saying the door is to remain closed at all times) … Entering the hotel from the carpark there is no signage to indicate how you get to reception. A guest showed us. Announcing our arrival at reception was greeted with a puzzled look from the woman behind the counter… She said she would have to phone house keeping to see if the room was ready… The room wasn't ready… so would we like to have a seat in the dining area with a free drink… After being offered a coffee or soft drink my Fiancee and I looked at the girl incredulously and finally got offered something a bit more adult with alcohol. After waiting almost 50 minutes we were told the room was ready.

I have stayed quite a few times now at St Kilda and I like its informality in that staff are friendly, food is good and the rooms are comfortable. I like that I can have a working dinner in Goneburger away from the music (I am a little old fashioned). It has become somewhere I look forward to staying at. Thank you — Virginia.

Great hotel in convenient location!

When a hotel books a bride and groom into the wrong room, it shows a complete lack of competency of the management and staff. We were also asked to pay for rooms that had already been paid by desk staff who were vague and overwhelmed. All in all not a good experience — never going back.

Spent 4 weeks at this wonderful hotel Jan /Feb this year. The facilities were excellent and the staff were warm and friendly, all of which made my trip to the beautiful city of Melbourne a holiday of a lifetime.

Room was filthy, linen wasn't fresh, and general feel was shabby. The room we got had half of the lights not working, air con didn't work properly and stunk of stale food. Complained and the Manager was a rude git who told us not to return if we were not happy. Definitely not a place to stay.

My card was double charged 'accidentally' by the staff here. When I asked what was happening they were very rude and weren't willing to help, as usual blaming the banks and anyone else but themselves. Do not stay here unless you want to be robbed. Terrible service. Will never again come here and will make sure everyone I know doesn't.

First of all, Urban looks fantastic. With its fireplace, funky look with its chairs mounted on the wall and its well dressed and polite staff, it seems a great place for sunday morning breakfast. The only downside was I think the most important. The food. As we searched through the mordern menu which actually looks amazing, we decide on the spicey meatballs and eggs, and the corn fritters with pinapple and poached eggs. When it finally arrived at the table it looked great. It looked bright, fresh and quite appetising. Then we tried it. The meatballs were dry, bland and overcooked, with a texture I would describe as not dissimilar to a cricket ball. The sauce was something similar to a variety purchased in a jar at the supermarket only worse, and the eggs were undercooked. As for the corn fritters. They tasted a lot like flour and not much else and the poached eggs were overcooked. I thought it would be a great idea to try to wash the taste away with a glass of orange juice. I couldn't believe it, they couldn't even get this right. I'm not sure what the ice to orange ratio was when it was mixed in the blender but it was favouring the ice i'm sure. Neither of us could finish our food as it was that bad. To be honest, probably one of, if not the worst breakfast I've purchased. And for the $51.00, well.

Great safe and vibrant location with super comfy beds, decent sized bathroom plus full length mirror! The staff were extremely helpful and attentive and reception was manned 24/7. Very clean and we stayed in a room away from the lifts and Fitzroy Street end of the hotel which was nice and quiet. Mavis Brown Bar below had a great acoustic singer and yummy cider. Number 96 tram virtually on your doorstep to transport you to the CBD and walk effortlessly to markets, beach and restaurants. Very happy with our stay here and would return :).

Haven't stayed in the hotel, but there is a sick little bar next to the entrance that is a cool little bar on Fitzroy street. Went there last weekend and it was packed and lots of fun. The bar tenders clearly love what they do and the atmosphere was awesome, small venue, but they still had live music playing and they have a TV for live sports events. A great place for drinks when out on fitzroy street.

Even if you're not staying at the hotel, drop into the bar downstairs to try some of the locally brewed cider — it's delicious! The bar itself is also an excellent spot to cool down out of the head of the beach, and for people watching.
